1. @aftermath - congratulations! I'm close to down 40lbs since surgery. There doesn't seem to be a normal, everyone is different. My doctor and nutritionist tell me to focus on eating small portions, eating slowly and watching to keep a balance of adam327 - take care and I hope your doctor helps you figure out what's giving you issues!

    Just did my three month w my surgeon. Down 58 pounds since surgery. He said that is very successful.

  2. So that explains the headache today. 100 calories of a chip appears to do more harm than good.

    Definitely a good idea to read up on ketosis. I think people who have never been on Atkins or South Beach don't understand how it differs from a straight-up low calorie diet. That transition into ketosis is no fun! And the water-weight gain from storing glycogen again is going to upset people who put a lot of stock into what their scale says.

    Thank you. The Water retention is actually a noticeable feeling. The result of just one day of substituting just a small amount of calories. No weight gain thankfully. Have this forum to thank.

  3. @@dvallas my surgeon insisted I go to GNC and purchase the non flavored Protein and he also told me that they would work with me there on a more tolerable shake. He also placed me on Nexium for two weeks. I have been working so have been unable to make to GNC will go tomorrow :)

    I think this is a good suggestion, adding Protein power to food you can tolerate. Foods like yogurt, Soups, no sugar pudding, Sometimes I make a shake with almond milk. I think you should try just making your own shakes. Water, protein power (I've seen some good selections at GNC -- like a cinnamon one that tastes like Churro!) Check out powered Peanut Butter. I think the GNC brand is called Daily Powered PB. costco has one they are selling right now which is the more popular brand. 90% less fat, and 7 grams of protein to add to things... Good Luck!

    @Bree1984

    I'm doing pretty good. Took me about 3 weeks to get there. Random fatigue was an issue but doc said that is normal. I'm going really slow introducing new foods. Not of fan of the pain that comes with eating too fast, or not chewed up, or w/e reason I have an episode. I can see myself drinking Protein shakes for a long, long time.

  5. My Nutritionist (have a hard time using the abbreviation NUT for them) has me at meal, snack, meal, snack meal. Meals/snacks limited to 30 minutes. Then 30 minute wait and back to liquids. I find that drinking liquids solves some of the hunger issues but if I am still having hunger issues I eat a food that doesn't agree with me. Like cottage cheese, two bites and I'm done thinking about food because my stomach is dealing with it. Whatever works right.

  6. I'm a dude. Bypass on 12/13 at 270 and down 35 pounds. Doing about 1 or 2 pounds a week now. Don't care about the scale, just sticking to the calories, and know my body will adjust. It has no choice really. That's the science part. Without the surgery there is no way I could maintain 600 to 700 calories a day. I remember when I thought 1500 calories was impossible to maintain a few "diets" ago.

  7. First, let me clarify that I am a sleeve patient and not a bypass patient. Thus, my experience with dumping is exactly none. However; I have read about it and understand the phenomenon.

    I am pretty confused by this line of reasoning. Dumping is a negative health effect caused by improper eating after a major surgery and you're disappointed that you're not able to rely on it to keep your eating in line?

    I feel like that's akin to an alcoholic lamenting that certain liquors don't cause them to puke and pass out, and they end up staying out and drinking all night instead. Does that sound like a healthy way to mitigate a drinking problem?

    For type 2 diabetes folks this is presented as a benefit, and better option than the sleeve. Sleeve patients do not experience dumping.

    Regarding addiction, food addicts cannot abstain from eating. It's not the same as alcoholics who can completely abstain from drinking alcohol.
