You have no control over the hair loss! It's nothing you did or didn't do. You can be "perfect" and still lose hair. Trauma/stress to your body causes your body to shut down non-essential activities like hair growth to focus on healing the trauma. Major surgery is traumatic. Losing large amounts of weight is a stress to your body, no matter how much Protein or how many Vitamins you take in or how slow you lose it. The fact that it takes months to notice it just adds to the feeling that you've done something wrong. And the fact that it grows back makes people think what they ate or vitamins they took saved their hair. Reality is, it's a cycle you have very little control over. Sure, you can probably make it worse with bad nutrition, but if it's going to happen to you, you can't stop it. Just focus on the fact that it will come back. I have PCOS. I was diagnosed at 18 in 1990 and my doctor said there was nothing she could do for me, but come back when I wanted to try for kids. When I think about how many years I needlessly suffered with all the symptoms, I don't know whether to scream or cry or both. Finally in my late 30s I researched it myself and marched in with medical opinion papers on treating my symptoms and walked out with the prescriptions I demanded. More to your question, the times I've lost all my extra weight, my symptoms all but disappeared. I think there is still a chicken and egg question about it - what comes first, the obesity or the PCOS - but weight loss helps a lot. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Between major surgery, thoughts of "what have I done to myself?", and the hormones from the fat you're burning, it's no wonder you feel depressed! Hang in there and search around on here. I was just reading a thread on depression - you're not alone in feeling this way. But the good news is, it's not forever. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Tummy Tuck and Inner Thigh Lift
clc9 replied to Spiceyfrog's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I read a blog of a woman who had a circumferential body lift after weight loss and while she looked normal standing up, when doing planks and pushups her skin still hung around her middle. A fleur de lis incision takes care of that side to side stretched skin and the tummy tuck or body lift only addresses up and down stretch, so to speak. Hope you heal fast - i'm sure you'll be thrilled with the result! Thanks for sharing! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
You will drive yourself nuts if you worry every time the scale doesn't move for a few days! Focus on what you can control - Protein, Water, walking - and the scale will take care of itself. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

That name just sounds dirty... I have a different kind of spiralizer. Be careful washing it. I cut my finger really badly even after reading the be careful warnings! Mostly I just sauté spiralized zucchini, carrot, and yellow squash with a small bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Yummy. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

I have Blue Shield of CA and the bariatric center of excellence near me isn't covered in their network. It's not a great hospital. I certainly wouldn't want to land there if I was sick. Consumer Reports gives it a 47 out of 100. So I take the designation with a grain of salt. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Have you submitted your paperwork yet? I hope you get your date soon! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm still debating insurance versus self-pay. If insurance requires 6 months of a pre-op diet, I think I'll self-pay, in which case it could get scheduled pretty quickly. If the insurance hoops are reasonable, then it would take longer. No paperwork submitted yet. I meet with the psychologist next week and find out what other pre-op tests the doctor requires. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
You're nice to try to give him the benefit of the doubt, but it sounds like pretty clear sabotage to me. There's no way he doesn't know by now those are foods she can't have. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

Losing before surgery.

Me too! Weight loss is easy compared to keeping it off, which no matter how happy I was with my loss, how good I felt and looked, how much I felt I had changed my lifestyle, I couldn't stop regaining it all. WLS gives you the only chance available today to succeed in that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

It's a brand of hair Vitamins. Honestly, for the PCOS loss, what stopped my hair loss was prescriptions for Spironolactone and low androgen birth control pills (some are high androgen and make hair loss worse). Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I was born with very fine hair, but a lot of it. Then PCOS took its toll on it, especially in the front. I hide it well with how I part it and I take meds to stop the PCOS from taking more, but the last time I lost a lot of weight (170 lbs) it was noticeable to me. But it grew back. And now I'll lose it again with the sleeve, but it'll come back again. For anyone worrying about this - honestly having the weight be gone is such an awesome tradeoff for the temporary hair loss, so try not to stress too much about this. You'll look terrific and no one will notice your hair as much as you will. I take Biotin and Viviscal, but have no idea if that helps or just makes me feel like I'm doing something positive. You get your surgery!!! ...if it were as simple as that, eh? I go in about two weeks for my first consult. How was your visit with the doc? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App It was great. I liked him a lot. And I was so surprised he spent so much time with me answering my questions. As to what comes next, you're right! People seem to be all over the place between what the surgeons require and what the insurance companies require that I have no idea what happens next for me specifically. Had I been reading this site well beforehand, I would have had better questions...

I had a one hour consult with the doctor a few weeks ago. My second appointment next week will be with the doctor and then the psychologist (same visit). That's when they want a small deposit to move forward. I'm not sure what happens after that. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
