I was looking at the nutrition info on Breyer's no sugar added ice cream (not sure what brand you were thinking of) and for no sugar added, they pack a lot of carbs in per serving! 13g. Most are sugar alcohols, specifically Maltitol, which can spike your blood sugar if you're diabetic because your body processes it similarly to sugar. Other sugar alcohols like Sorbitol can give you digestive distress, which I'm sure you don't want right now. So this might be one of those label reading learning experiences that sometimes they say sugar free, when it's a near fib and that it takes a lot of laboratory machinations to make fake food taste real. Maybe some ice chips for the cold you crave and something else you know is on your list would be better? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

As a side note, if you might ever consider plastic surgery, have your doctor document your skin infections. Insurance could cover part of the cost of a tummy tuck if you can prove infections. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Ugh. In all my decades of being heavy, I never had this until the last few months (the skin one, not the tongue - ouch!). I tried a lot, but finally had luck with clotrimazole cream (over the counter 3-day yeast infection cream) and showers twice a day. Once it's gone, keep it clean and dry and use Gold Bond powder. Always dry the skin with a hairdryer before applying the cream or powder. Good luck. It's miserable. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

What was your first appointment like with your surgeon?
clc9 replied to Calmomma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
He spent over an hour with me asking about my weight history and diet experiences, explaining the various surgeries, and answering my long list of questions. Then I met briefly with the insurance person who told me how much it would cost if I was self-pay, took my insurance info to check on whether they would cover it, and scheduled my next appointment. I scheduled that out about a month even though they could do a lot sooner as I felt like I had a lot to think about and wanted to discuss with my family and research other surgeons. Planning on having a revision

I would go back to basics: lean Protein and vegetables. Cutting out any empty carbs, alcohol, and anything that slides down easily. Not drinking while eating. It may be that the steroids and depo shot are really messing with your weight, but in that case switching to a bypass wouldn't change that unfortunately. Good luck to you. I wasn't trying to be sarcastic with my last post, I just meant that your sleeve is still there and they don't really stretch out so if it's not working you need to consider whether you are "eating around it" by eating stuff that goes down too easily meaning you don't get full. Another expensive major surgery won't fix your food choices when you already have restriction built in if you use it as intended. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -

I haven't had my surgery yet so you can discount my opinion if you want to. I am getting this surgery not because I can't lose weight, but because I can't keep it off once I lose it. It's awesome that you've lost 25 pounds, but your chances of keeping it off for 5 years is somewhere between 2-4% without surgery. Bariatric surgery gives the best chance available today to keep the weight off long term because it's the only thing that resets your body's weight set point to a lower level giving you a better chance at keeping it off. Set point is the high weight your body will fight tooth and nail to get back to. It's why it's so hard to maintain weight loss otherwise. You can still gain the weight back if you don't change your habits around food and exercise, but at least you have a chance to keep it off. 2-4% is no chance at all. As I understand it, the lifting restrictions are primarily because your abdominal muscles have been cut and are healing. Strain before that muscle wall has healed can cause a hernia - which is your intestines poking out through the unhealed incisions. Plus it's putting strain on tissue that is in the process of healing, which makes your healing take longer. A hernia will feel/look like a bulge around your incisions. Relationship Worries - Please Help
clc9 replied to curlyinthecity's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If any man made me choose between him or my health, I would choose my health every time. If what they love about you most is your unhealthy size, you're an object of their fetish, not a whole person. How is it different than if you were rich and they were drawn to your money, then you were poor and they were no longer attracted to you? That would be a huge turnoff right? I would much prefer someone who loved and wanted to be with me for my insides than one who mostly was attracted to my outsides. And that goes for whether I'm fat or thin. When I lost a ton of weight a few years ago, the scanners always pick up my left upper arm. My skin sags the worst on that arm and they think I could be smuggling something in there. So while I can't explain your forehead, the loose skin can be read like something's hiding under your clothes. Embarrassing, because then they want to touch it to be sure. I only know two people in my circle who have had WLS. Both had RNY bypass and both are currently quite overweight years after surgery. So adding to your experiences of seeing sleeve patients regain, people with bypass can eat around their operations too. Really focusing on developing and maintaining good eating habits is key no matter which operation we get! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
I missed it, but they're all the same, whether shrimp, cake, the most fibrous fruits or a side of beef. I take it that Mr. Shrimp was whining about pain rather than bragging about her glutton or "foodie" creds? As an aside, no wonder why shrimp are now on the vulnerable species list. Sadly it was more the latter. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

36% of Americans are obese. I think they worry it would bankrupt them if they made it easy for 116+ million people to have a $20,000 operation. Given that that equals 2 trillion 320 billion dollars, I get why they want to make it hard to get approved. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Considering how many times I've flipped from fat to thin, I feel compassion mostly. But it seems that we are most critical of traits we see in others that we dislike in ourselves. So I guess his disdain is a reflection of his fear of going back to being that fat guy again. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
