  2. So, I had to tell too. By the time I told them, I had missed so much work for dr appointments, they thought I was either interviewing or had cancer. So I told them of my decision, and explained why surgery was necessary instead of just diet and exercise. The support I've received from them has been amazing. Stage 3.

You should be allowed a sugar fee popsicle because it is a clear liquid. Just take your time and eat as much as you can. I only got through a few bites. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    Sleeve vs Bypass

I completely understand where you are at. I went into this process last June with the full belief I was ready for the sleeve. I was excited. I had done my research. I had several friends who had been sleeved. Then they did the endoscopy. My dr. flat out told me that he would not do a sleeve on me. He recommended RNY bypass. I was free to get another opinion. I had a hiatal hernia and gerd. On top of that, I had bile in my stomach which indicated a weak valve between my stomach and small intestine. It took me a few weeks to wrap my head around a bypass. My BMI was only 35.5 so it just seemed so extreme. I discussed it with my dr. He told me it depended on what I felt was extreme. Yes, they create a new stomach pouch for you, but everything remains in your body or I can cut out 2/3 of my stomach and throw it away. The bottom line is whether you trust your dr. If you don't, get another opinion.
  6. Have you tried taking a good quality probiotic?

Can I see a menu please?

Have you tried the Isopure pre-made drinks? I think they taste like gatorade, and are not as filling. I'm struggling with my Protein since I'm just not that hungry and the shakes actually make me feel bad. Maybe I'm drinking them too fast, but Isopure is the only protein supplement I'm tolerating right now.

    255 Starting Weight ?

Hi - my BMI was 35.5 so I was barely eligible. It was actually kind of hard because I had to show some weight loss over the 6 month period of doctor supervised "weight loss", but not go below the threshhold BMI. Anyway - this Friday will be one month since I started pre-op diet, and will be 2 weeks post op. I've lost 22 pounds. That's almost 10% of my body weight. I know it will slow down as time goes on. Oh - and you are a guy so you'll probably drop weight a little quicker. Good luck.

WLS is the easy way out

Just like people who fight over natural child birth vs. an epidural. Whatever - at the end you still have a baby. Other than that, it should be what works for the person. I actually didn't have the surgery to lose weight. I can do that without surgery. What I have been unable to do in the past 15 years is KEEP IT OFF. When I tell people that, anyone who has ever dieted understands that struggle. BUT, I do think it is a disservice to pitch WLS as a magic bullet, miracle cure. I hope doctors educate people that this is not the case because there is the same hard work to lose the weight as if you didn't have the surgery.

    Looking for any Texas members

Dallas area here - Bypass 12/27.
  11. . So Zizi is right - the larger the size, the larger the range it will accommodate. Generally, in the double digit regular sizes it is 20 pounds = one size. I think in the Woman's sizes it is a wider range. Also - how is your body shaped? Can you go down in a size on top, but not bottom, or vice versa. And also - focus on other NSV's (non-scale victories) for now. You are doing amazing!

    Protein shakes

I found a site that sells samples of a lot of powders. Can't remember the name, but do a Google search. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
  14. It is another hoop. Good news is that it was a quick call with a nurse. But they need to schedule it. It took a few days to get it scheduled. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    Aetna POS

Even if they don't, you want one. I ended up having to change to the bypass because they found bile in my stomach and evidence of reflux. If I would have just gotten the sleeve I would have had to do the second surgery to fix it. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

  19. I was told to only eat 1 ounce for my meals for the first two weeks. Now I can move up to 2-4 ounces. A few times I felt full like before. I can't go by being satisfied since I'm really not hunger to start with. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
  20. I just had mine done two weeks ago. Pm me if you want. I can use all the support I can get too. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App

    Miserable

I'm still in horrible pain when I move the wrong way. Everyone asks how I am, and I say good except for the knife stuck in my left side. I can't sit at my desk for long or it starts shooting to my back. I'm at two weeks post open. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
  22. Are you on a liquid diet? You should not be drinking juice as it has too much sugar. Stay on the Protein drinks. The first 3 -4 days are horrible, but after the sugar is out of your system for that long, it is much easier. Sent from my KFTBWI using the BariatricPal App
  23. Well now I guess I'm thankful for my pain. I know they did something. Oh - and I can't really eat. So there's that.

    Weight loss surgery

Sounds like you have a tough situation altogether for everyone in your house. We all make do with what we have though. One of the things that was really the hardest thing for me at first was the guilt about why I couldn't just lose the weight and maintain a healthy weight without the surgery. For some reason it felt like the surgery was an admission that I wasn't strong enough. So I did a lot of sole searching and had a very honest discussion with my doctor about it. What resulted for me was a script that I live by now. Maybe it would help you to develop a similar internal script. this isn't a tougher skin, just a different way to look at things. #1 - my weight/fat is not me. This is something I carry around and I want to get rid of it. Maybe I did pick it up in the first place and that was stupid, but I want to put it back down. It doesn't define me. I can hate it without hating myself. People can comment on it without it being about me. It's my 100 (now 80) pound bag of rocks I carry around. #2 - "Why can't I have (fill in the blank)?", or "but it's Christmas", or "how do you celebrate". I had (fill in the blank) for years and it did me no favors, or "I'll have plenty of Christmases in the future since I'll be healthy", or "food is fuel, not feelings". #3 - But the surgery is so extreme. I hear this the most. My family was against this for me at first. My son begged me not to do it a week before the surgery. My response is now - I have demonstrated time and time again - at least five or six times since you have known me that I can lose the weight. What I have been unable to do is to keep it off. The surgery is a tool that will help me in the long run keep this weight from returning. Anyway - hope you are having a lovely day and that you get a break at your house sometimes.
