  1. Hey all! Using my daughter's account because it was already logged in. I am 60 years old and have had my band for 8 years with no problems. SW was 256 and CW is 180. I never really had any of the typical complications associated with the lap band. However, finding that "sweet spot" has never been easy. My port needs to be replaced, not the band, just the port. Yesterday, I saw my daughter's surgeon (she had a sleeve in Dec) and he asked me if I had ever considered converting to a sleeve. So my question is, if you had a lapand that was fairly successful and am happy where I am, what would you do?

  2. I'm curious if anyone was advanced by their doctor to the next stage of their post-op diet before the original timeline. I.e. Advanced from full liquids to puree before 2 weeks?
Yeah, I was moved from the liquids to purée after 10 days, when I was initially told 2 weeks. Cant say I was complaining though!

Good to know. I just feel like I'm tolerating everything really well, and would love to try a scrambled egg or something other than liquid. Obviously don't want to damage anything, but I know some docs advance their WLS patients quickly. I'm struggling over here
    When's your next apt?

Oh wow, so far away! Is that when you're due to advance? (I hope not!)

Oh no! I'm supposed to advance in 5 days. I just find myself putting off the Protein shakes now. Having a hard time just choking down one of them.
Yeah they get old after a while. What kind are you doing?

    Premier.

Good luck on your next stage!

  6. Just checking in on everyone. Had my surgery on 12/19/2016. Started out 266, after 3 day clear liquid I lost down to 255 on the day of surgery I was 260. It has been 72 hours later, and I am down 10lbs already. I'm not hurting in any of my incision sites, my pain is my soar throats from the intubation. But I have been gargling with salt and it's just now feeling better. Nervous about getting on the scale to see where I am. I have decided to only weigh in once a week.

QUESTION: is anyone having trouble getting all of this Fluid in each day? I am supposed to start drinking at 8AM AND FINISH BY 8PM, but I get so full and can't consume everything The said to drink on the meal sheet. Any advice???

Intubation? They stuck a tube fown your throat? I'm sorry i didn't know they had to do that? Is that normal?

Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

Yeah, completely normal. If you're under general anesthesia, you'll be intubated.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Thanks, i didn't realize that. That's scary. But i guess is necessary

Sent from my SM-N900T using the BariatricPal App

Yeah, it's not bad. You won't even know it was there, but you may have a sore throat for a while.

  8. I'm still having a hard time hitting 60+ grams of Protein per day. I seem to get to 50 okay, but the extra 10 is a challenge. Are you getting in all your Protein and how much were you told to have per day?

I definitely have not been getting in 60 grams a day. My doctor said if I hit between 45 and 50 I'll be good. 64 is the "month" goal for me. I usually drink a protein shake and a half and that's it as far as protein.

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Me too. I just got some Adkins Lift drinks that have 20g of protein. That has really helped. They have 3 flavors, but I've only tried the Berry so far.

I'll have to check those out! Thanks!

Hi all! Joining this thread late but my surgery was also on December 19th. I LOVED my surgeon and the hospital. It went great. Now that I'm home and still dealing with full liquids I'm not doing so great. So very tired of sweet drinks, and I hate Soup, always have. This has not been fun. Really looking forward to purees on the 2nd. Well, okay not really, I have problems with textures and pureed texture is one that makes me gag, but I can have mashed potatoes and unsweetened applesauce, so that'll be nice at least. :)

I'm sorry you're not having the easiest time. Hopefully the next few days fly by for you! Full liquids is tough, that's for sure.

  10. Hi! How are ya doing on full liquids? What does your daily menu entail? I was excited yesterday I finally met my liquid and Protein intake but I feel like I maybe doing too much. Mind you when I drink my shake it takes over an hour before I finish the whole thing. I find myself with a Water bottle at all times. I am just curious what everyone is eating. 10 days post op down 11 lbs since surgery.

My daily menu is nothing exciting. I usually have a Protein Shake and a half, and then something of the Soup variety for dinner. I've been digging light creamy Soups, because they have a lot of flavor. I don't think I've been doing 64 g and 64 ounces, but I've been doing about 50. That's what my doctor suggested. I have my 10 day postop tomorrow, and I'm probably going to be cleared for soft foods. I can't wait!

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Sent from my SM-N920P using the BariatricPal App

I can drink 8oz of broth now. Been primarily living on Premier Protein shakes, broth with Protein added, G2 drink, crystal light. I've had yogurt once, still not something I actually like, and I've had cottage cheese and refried Beans with plain greek yogurt mixed in. On christmas I did have two spoons of mashed potatoes drenched in turkey juice and a shred of turkey that I chewed to death.

I also have chewed some string cheese into mush too. I know these things aren't on my current list, but I'm careful to not swallow anything until it's mush. My doctor said I could have a scrambled egg with cheese on day 10! whoohoo.. and if that goes well I could also try some fish. She seems to be less strict on the stages than I see in other programs.

My doctor seems to be a little less strict too, and I'm pretty excited about it. Supposed to get the OK tomorrow to move onto soft foods. I'm glad you didn't have any problems with those foods, makes me excited for tomorrow! Enjoy your scrambled egg!

Not much at all. Maybe 2 oz worth. I haven't been particularly measuring, I've just been making sure I'm paying attention to how my stomach feels. Not much at all, though.

  13. How is everyone doing?

I've been off pain meds since Christmas Day, but yesterday started getting a bad pain on my right side at my upper rib cage. Just talked to nurse and she said it could be an internal stitch there that I pulled or aggravated. Might be taking pain meds again if it gets worse.

On a positive side I'm down 12 pounds since surgery! Yay!

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Congrats on the weight-loss! But I'm sorry you're still in pain. Hopefully it heals quickly! I feel great, as far as pain. I've been off pain meds since the 22nd. I'd rate it may be a two out of 10, it really doesn't hurt except when I switch positions. I'm able to lay on both sides, and flat on my back. My main problem has been that my throat is still super sore, and I know it's nothing other than pain from intubation. It's slowly getting better but it's super frustrating. I feel it on the side of my face and it's just very blah. On the upside, getting required fluids in his gotten easy, I have a doctors appointment tomorrow hoping to move onto soft foods. Im down about 15 from surgery. I wish you guys the best!

Sorry about the throat pain. I never had any which I was very surprised by.

I have had a strange feeling of being strangled around my neck. Finally figured out it was from gas so taking gas meds more regularly.

  15. I'm having surgery in the am. I asked my mom to help me a few weeks ago. On Friday she decides to tell me she can't,no reason she just can't. So I find other means for my roses and for my dogs. Tonight one of my friends watching my dogs, after only having my 18wk old puppy for 2hrs, messagese bitching about how often the dog goes to the bathroom. So now I have to find someone to watch my dog between now and 8am tomorrow morning because the same friend wants to drop me off 2hrs early in case of traffic. FML

Damn, that's terrible. I can't stand people like that. I hope you can find someone reliable to help you out. Maybe a neighbor? Keep us posted, please. And good luck tomorrow!

  17. For those of you who would like the black bean Soup recipe:

1 pound dried black Beans or 4 cans of black Beans

1 or 2 green bell peppers (I like poblano)

    1 large onion

    ½ cup olive oil

    ½ cup white vinegar

1 tbsp cumin (I use more because I love it)

    Salt and pepper to taste

1 ham hock (or meat seasoning for you non-southerners)

Dice all vegetables. (I buy the pre-diced from the grocery store so I can just dump everything). Sautée the vegetables in a little olive oil in pan until soft. Then dump everything else in the pan. Yes, I mean it. Add Water as needed to cover everything. You won't need much Water in a crockpot.

Cook until beans are done and the liquid part starts to look creamy. Use immersion blender or regular blender to Purée.

    Top with sour cream!

    Katy W- Louisburg, NC

    DS scheduled for 12/26

    Thank you!!
