White Sale got a reaction from Anna Nim in How to recognize hunger and fullness & what about pain?
What does full or full-ish feel like early on?
I'm only a week post op, but I'll try to describe my new feeling of fullness. I've found that it feels much like that pressure one feels before a burp.
    OR
Have you ever swallowed a large amount of an icy cold drink at once and felt that stabbing pain travel with it down your esophagus? Just a blip of a similar pain tells me it's time to stop.
I think the most important thing, for me, has been to be aware of how much I've already had and to go slow, slooow, sloooow. I'm accustomed to horking my food down like a hound dog, so this is an exercise in patience.
You'll get it Anna Nim, just listen to your body and keep checking in.

Hey there, I am one week post-op.
A little background: I am 31, my BMI was 41, and I did not have any obesity-related diseases. So our cases may not make for good comparison.
What's the go with catheter do you have one or not? I did not have a catheter. What was your hospital stay? About 30 hours. I walked almost immediately after waking up in my hospital room. What was your operation time ? I was told it was about 35 minutes. Is there much scaring involved ? Can't answer this one yet. I have 5 incisions: 2 are about 2"-2.5' long, the other 3 are less than an inch.

If we were to make an awesome cookbook with great pureed recipes, we could become thousandaires. Who is with me?

Yes. Like everything else - you're going to need to do some planning.
For week 1 made my own Jello (it's cheaper).
For week 2 which I am entering in 2 days, I took a look at the list of allowed foods that the nutritionist gave me; Then I went on pinterest and punched in for example: Broccoli, pureed foods
You get lots of good ideas. Some that you can't use yet but otherwise, good ideas. OH - I also googled "list of high Protein foods" and I got this: https://authoritynutrition.com/20-delicious-high-protein-foods/ . Again, make sure they are on the list of things you can eat and if they are, look up recipes for them.
Get yourself 4 oz either plastic or mason jars with a lid, something like this: https://www.uline.com/Product/Detail/S-19695/Jars/Canning-Jars-4-oz?pricode=WZ495&gadtype=pla&id=S-19695&gclid=CIHv2N-ul9ECFVOHswodI2ECtA&gclsrc=aw.ds so that you can freeze your food and it won't go bad. This way, you'll have food for a week.
I have a Ninja blender but I'm suspecting a regular blender will be fine too, set to Puree.
Best of luck and reach out if when you get your date! xoxo

White Sale got a reaction from smyleetn in Pain Meds - How Long Did You Take?
I was given liquid hydrocodone with Tylenol. It wasn't the most effective for me. However, I stopped taking the max dosage at about post-op day 5.
On day 7 now, I just take it before bed if I really need it.
I'm sure you know, but be very careful with those Oxys, SleevedByChristmas. There's a reason for the recent heroine epidemic in the US.
    Best to you!

    Today is the day!!! Congrats!
Make sure to walk, walk, walk ASAP after you wake up. Moderate pain now saves a lot of pain later.

Bummer that you had to stay in the hospital for more than one night. I know I couldn't get any rest while I was there - they don't let you. I do miss that Dilaudid, though......
At least you're home now and can start your new life. Best wishes!

K, once again I'm not sure where I placed any blame on any patient.
Also it would be helpful if the people who regret it would say WHY they regret it.

I only regretted it in the very beginning when i was on broth and my family was having steak..and it was more of a pout than a true regret...I missed chewing...but now nearly 3 months out and down 52 pounds I honestly wonder why on earth I didn't do this sooner.

Absolutely! As in not having it performed a few years earlier.

It's posts like these that make me so glad that I decided, and am able, to pay out of pocket. IMO, it seems to be worth the extra money for the time and frustration saved.
If you have the ability, I say forget insurance (I realize this isn't an option for many folks).

I didn't see this in the thread, so if it's been mentioned, please forgive.
If you're as tired of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry Protein as I was, there's a brand call BariWise that makes all varieties of fruit-flavored Protein drinks. All very low carb.
IMO, wild berry is the best (like a fruit punch) and anything with orange is yuck-o.
    example: 70 Calories/ 2g Carbs/ 0g Sugar/ 15g Protein per packet (for wild berry flavor)

Were you a sugar and carb junkie? For me, I know going from carb/sugar overdose to near zero grams daily gives me wicked headaches for 3-5 days.
It will pass. The next time you have something sugary it will shock you how intensely sweet it is. Yuck!
I chose to use the liquid Tylenol (a small dose) because it's not an NSAID and liquid meds seems to be the go-to for post-op pain relief.

White Sale got a reaction from Kila Rass in Food funeral ????? ???? ???? ????
    Hey Kila Rass,
I'm a self-pay patient, too. Yesterday was my last day to enjoy solid food for a while. It was explained to me that this high-Protein, pre-op diet is to shrink my liver, not to lose weight. My surgery is December 21st.......
I didn't have a food funeral. I definitely thought about it, but I didn't want to indulge in the same terrible eating practices that forced me to the point of surgery.
I am in mourning for my "drug of choice," however. To lift my spirits, I look at the outfits I will be wearing in 2017.
The only thing I had "special" on my last day of solid foods was a chicken biscuit Breakfast from Chik-Fil-A. Holy guacamole - I'm gonna miss those.
Sugar withdrawal is REAL. Caffeine withdrawal is REAL. If you're an addict like me, drink lots of Water and have approved OTC pain meds for headaches. I'm wicked tired and the headache is dull and constant.
    Best to you!

I've never had surgery before. I'm sooooo nervous!
Trying think of it like an extremely expensive Christmas gift to myself. A gift that will allow me to live longer, with more joy and less limitations.
