    Opinions....?

I chose to have the sleeve gastrectomy. I didn't want the more complicate surgery of RNY. I didn't want to have to worry about malabsorption, as fatontheinside mentioned, for the rest of my life. Even though RNY patients tend to lose weight more quickly than VSG patients, the long term (3+ years) outcome are similar for both procedures.
  2. How incredibly hungry I was for two weeks post-op. After reading many experiences of people having no hunger right after surgery, that really threw me for a loop. I was also uncharacteristically emotional and had mood swings; usually I'm pretty level. What @@fatontheinside mentioned about wanting to chew/crunch something, anything, also surprised me.
  3. Hey everyone. I had the sleeve gastrectomy a little over a month ago. The surgeon's office quoted me a price - which I was led to believe included everything. Last week, I received 2 bills in the mail (labs and anesthesiology) which come to an additional $3500! This was not expected at all and not in my budget. I'm about to review my paperwork to see WTH is going on. Anyone run into similar issues?

    Is this normal

I definitely felt very weak and tired easily post-op. I took a daily nap for the first two weeks. Don't forget - your insides really went through a lot! It is easy to forget because the incisions are so teeny. Take it easy, heal well. It wasn't until about 4 days into pureed foods that I began to feel like my old self. It will be especially taxing if you're back at work.
  5. @@WitchySar - I know exactly what you mean. Something liquid-y that can be used in a regular 510 style or cartomizer and that doesn't smell/taste like the bud. I just don't care for the taste. I never did find anything. Tried to make my own, but it was too much work, so I just switched to edibles. @@janedoe92 - I've seen those pre-made oil cartridges, I just wish they sold the bottles to refill your own cartomizer. The product in those is too thick to transfer. Ah well, these are good problems to have.

    Self pay: unexpected bills

Dang! I just wish I would've been expecting them, but I had no idea. Good idea - I'm definitely going to have an in-person chat with them before I send the check. Three grand for less than an hour with a nurse anesthetist (not even a MD) seems a bit steep! Woops! I didn't realize until after posting that I should've posted in the "self-pay" part of the forums

    People noticing?

It took over a month and 35 pounds for someone to say something to me. My neighbor complimented me and made a gesture as though it was my midsection which shrunk. People may be hesitant to give out such compliments, but they will come with time! I'm looking forward to 6-7 months down the road and seeing people I haven't seen since before surgery.

    I want food!

I went through the same thing for about 2 weeks post-op. Try crunching on ice cubes. I also made ice cubes from pickle juice to satisfy that need for a salty & crunchy thing - it got me through.
  9. I've found a brand of THC "mints" which are sugar-free. Also, if you find, say, a chocolate bar with a high THC content, the amount of sugar & carbs in the thumbnail-sized piece you eat is nearly negligible. The canna-liquid you can use with an e-cig is available, but kinda hard to find. You *could* make your own, but it takes a thorough knowledge of decarboxylation and chemistry to make a product that works. Usually when people talk about vaping, they mean vaporizing the flower - no combustion. I have a portable vaporizer "pen" with interchangeable atomizers for flower, wax, or low-viscosity liquid. If you're interested, just PM and I'll let you know the name brand. I think it's best avoided. Maybe invest in a good portable vape for flower. You can actually save your vaporized buds and make your own edibles from them, so it's like getting to double-dip!

    Decaf coffee and sugarfree creamer

I do the same. I use the Via instant coffee, ice cubes made from the premier Protein, and shake it up. So good!

    Surprising Reality of WLS

Calories in, calories out may be true, but what happens in between can be so different from person to person. Here's a very interesting article about how the bacteria in your GI tract may have an impact on weight: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-gut-bacteria-help-make-us-fat-and-thin/

    Full liquids starts today!

Yay! My mood and energy really improved when I graduated from clear to full liquids. I suggest you find an unflavored protein powder to add it to strained soups. Mix a scoopful of powder with just enough water to make it smooth, then add it to hot liquids (that way it won't get those awful clumps).

    6 week stall

How frustrating that must be! Are you still measuring your food and tracking your macros? Perhaps your carbs and/or sugar intake is more than you realize (I know this could easily happen to me). Do you do any strength training?

    "The Crown"

Absolutely adore the very posh accents on that show! I began watching The Crown, but then The Young Pope started...

    6 days in

Unfortunately, not really. I sorta itched around them, never on them. It drove me crazy, too. I'd even scratch in my sleep! Did they use Dermabond?
  16. I want to scream. Absolutely devastated. I weigh myself every Saturday. 12/31/16 - 241.6 1/7/17 - 238.6 1/14/17 - 238.6 I've lost two pounds in two weeks. I have walked nearly every day. I have tracked my goddamn calories, macros, and Water. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE RULE OF CALORIES IN CALORIES OUT? THIS IS F*CK*NG B*LLSH*T!!!!!!!! Now I don't even have an effing stomach and I'm not losing weight. EVEN AFTER HAVING SURGERY TO MUTILATE MY BODY I WILL ALWAYS BE A FATSO. Who has a f*ck*ng two week stall in the 3 weeks after surgery?!?????? ME. FML FML FML

    Crying on the bathroom floor

I had my surgery about 4 weeks ago. Every surgeon's guidelines are different - definitely follow yours. Mine has me on regular foods after 4 weeks. I'm starting slowly, chewing extremely well, weighing everything, and eating on a schedule. So far, so good!

    Crying on the bathroom floor

Thank you to everyone for your motivation and support. Since the OP a week ago, I've shed 3 lbs, so I'm headed in the right direction. Of course I wish it were more! I'm also on solid/regular foods now, which is strange. Still walking, still hydrating, still proteining.

    Could use a mentor/buddy

It is common, but try like heck to get in your fluids or you'll end up in a very bad state. Keep that Water bottle with you like a bad habit. Take teeny sips often. You will get through this!

    3 days post op

I had outrageous hunger for at least two weeks post-op. Very frustrating. Whether it was head hunger or actual hunger didn't really matter; they felt identical. My fear of hurting myself by "giving in" to the hunger is what got me through it. I spent too much money on my pouch to mess it up! I am now allowed to eat solid/regular foods. The most surprising thing is that I don't crave a single thing. All the stuff I loved 6 weeks ago doesn't seem appealing at all.

One consequence of having a gastric sleeve...

I'll be the first one to loot the local Vitamin Shoppe.
  24. For being 5 days PO, 46 ounces is great! I could barely do the minimum of 32oz at that point. Don't worry yourself too much, just drink what you can. Everyday you'll drink a bit more and soon you'll make your goal. If you're on a liquid diet, remember that those ounces count toward your Fluid intake for the day.
  25. I have two goals and two rewards... 1) Below 200 pounds and I get these earrings from Tiffany & C0.: 2) Goal weight (150 pounds) is a new wardrobe.
