    Pre-op coffee question

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, unfortunately black coffee is not my thing, I'm going to try mixing the decaf with the Protein shakes instead of the sugar free creamer as I think that is better overall. I ordered my favorite coffee brand in decaf from Amazon since I couldn't find it in a store, thank goodness for quick prime shipping lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Please tell me it's worth it....

I don't have any ideas for you but feel your pain, I am at my out of pocket Cap for the year so I don't have to pay as much if I get the surgery before Jan 1. I am currently scheduled for Dec 30 but nervous of anything that could cause a delay because a delay would mean I have to figure out how to cover more cost. 3. At my hospital pre-op visit they said labs and EKG had to be within 30 days, so hopefully you are still in that time frame. My date is the 30th as well and I have literally been walking away from sick co-workers, I want a quarantine sign for my cube because if I get delayed I have to pay more out of pocket due to new insurance year. Seeking wisdom

Similar to WLSResources suggestion, my surgery is not until the 30th but I purchased a nice monthly planner notebook. I wanted something that I can use to mark my successes, meal plan, goal set, keep my notes in, journal, etc. I know there are apps and things that I have used to do that at times but I decided I wanted paper for this, because then no matter where I am I can pull it out and do things like get out my feelings or maybe view a previous meal plan to get back on track. I figure that this will be a year of a lot of changes and I would also like a record of it all Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Reason for Sugar Free?

Most of our food has too much added sugar, if you start monitoring your sugar intake you may be surprised where you find it. When my husband was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and we started to cut it out, I was amazed at what some of the highest sugar foods are. Sugar is empty calories and with the sleeve I know people who get sick with sugar intake. Why waste the calories you do get on something that gives you no nutrition, might make you sick and might slow your weight loss? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Diet Coke

I was a die hard diet coke drinker until about six months ago, I never imagined giving it up. My surgery is not until the end of this month but I have lost 74 pounds in six months and I believe a part of that is due to giving up diet soda. I have had about one Diet Coke a month since giving it up and each time I regret it. I end up with huge sugar cravings for at least 2-3 days after drinking one. Beyond the cravings it can trigger I know my doctor and nutritionist said to avoid caffeine and carbonated drinks, I know it is hard but I would avoid it if you can, it is not worth the risks you are taking. Now if you HAVE to have that flavor, I did see a recipe online using a unsweetened cola extract with stevia in Water, I'm not sure if it is any good but might be worth a try Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I start my pre-op diet this week and I know that this will change a lot regarding how I feed my family. I am just wondering what other changes you have seen in your family since having surgery? Has your family's eating, exercise, activities changed? I have a young son at home and I am trying to prepare my husband and my son and would love to hear if anyone experienced anything unexpected in this area. Got confused today re eating bugles ....

Wow really? How is this post or most of the replies ok at all? You people should be ashamed of yourselves for making fun of another member. A person who is obviously new and was not given the information she should have been given. Instead of helping her you shame her? Bullying is not humor and it is not ok. 13. Does your husband provide training to others? lol actually I can't complain, mine is pretty supportive, he is diabetic and lost over 100 pounds on his own, so we do a lot with making sure to give each other what we need to support...unfortunately we can sometime sabotage each other too however Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Toast

My nutritionist said that you can actually have toast sooner than most people would expect because toasting the bread actually makes it easier to digest. My main concern would be, would that fill you up so that you don't get the level of Protein or other nutrients that you need. But my realism brain also says, you know if a half slice of toast with some butter will make you feel satisfied, do it once and move on, just don't overindulge on it Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Snack

I am a newbie myself on these boards but the tones of replies on both sides is making me question if I want to stay involved here. My nutritionist did recommend crackers in Soup as you get into the mushy food stage, although not sure that solves a crunchy craving, sounds more like a salty craving since you sucked on them. The thing I am most concerned about in these posts is that it sounds like you were not given good nutritional guidelines from your doctor at all. I have been seeing my nutritionist for 6 months and had a pre-op diet class, I would be more than willing to scan and share that information with you if you don't get good information from your doctor. 16. My husband is a home body so I can see "activity" dates may be hard for him, I think of things like going for a walk up on the waterfront in Seattle near where I live or a family bike ride on trails down by the river. With my son that is an aspect I am looking forward to, I am dying to be more active with him. We live in the Pacific Northwest and there are so many beautiful outdoor options that I hope to do more of. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  17. My stats are not that far off except I am a bit taller. I am having the sleeve on Dec 30th. I have had many friends my size have major complications with the full bypass and I know for me that is not an option I was open to. I have read other stories from very large people and they have been successful with the sleeve, I really think you have to do the research and decide what surgery is right for you. My doctors never pushed one over the other but I was also pretty upfront that I was not comfortable with the bypass. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
