  1. I agree that it is a personal choice. A surgeon also may suggest one surgery over the other due to GERD, ulcers, history of blood clots, etc....I went in this with the bypass on my mind..but, decided on the sleeve( I'm preop). I know two classmates whom had the bypass surgery over 10 years ago and they both reached their goal weight. However as of today's date both have gained their weight back and some. What I did notice about them is their mental stability about overeating had not changed. I've seen them overeat and get sick and I've seen them become closet eaters.....The weight is controlled by the mind!!!....Both surgeries are a quick fix....it's really up to you! 2. Good question...I was wondering if I started taking "hair, nails & skin vitamins" BEFORE my surgery...would it help with the hair loss???...even after the surgery! Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

  4. Should WLS patient check in continuously with a therapist, psychologist, or life coach post op? *****I think initially we dive right into this surgery and hope for the best. We follow the doctor's order and lose the weight. However, the very reason we are at this point is because our mindful eating habits have been controlling us. The surgery will fix the outside appearance but, what about the inside?***** Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

  6. I wasn't so sad watching it. It shows eating disorders many overweight people have. It shows how unhealthy a person can get when they constantly eat the wrong things. It's a piece of every fat person inside each individual on that show....It's the realiest "reality" show I've seen thus far. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

    EGD

Yes, I have a 3cm hiatal hernia & chronic gastritis. They tried to give me Prilosec...but, I refused due to its severe side effect of complete kidney failure....I went to a natural supplement for healing. Although, this was not a major concern..I have been approved for surgery. Doc says gastritis needs healing before surgery so, I'm working on it...Hopefully, they will repair the hernia during surgery...Waiting for my date...I have read a lot of post regarding hernia & gastritis...it's quite common amongst overweight people..Who knew?? ;-/ Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

  12. You look fabulous! Is that a six pack shining through?(smile). To read that women my age have heart problems like me, overweight like me, determined like me....let's me know I landed in this forum for a reason..."soul searching" My friends don't understand, my family think I'm strong as a bull...but, I'm not! My health issues are killing me. I can feel my health deteriorating. I'm not as vibrant as I was 4 years ago. My defining moment: Last year, they found a blood clot lunged in my heart. I needed open heart surgery but because I was so overweight they doctor said I wouldn't make it because they would have difficulty getting to my heart because of all the fat. He refused to do the surgery. They shipped me to another hospital to the top heart surgeon in Michigan. He fixed it without open heart surgery. He also said I need to lose the weight! At that moment, not being able to save my life because I was fat was a moment I will never forget. I was embarrassed but, I'm too strong minded to be defeated. I'm going to change my life for the better..NOW! I can't wait to get this surgery...It's a MUST! Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

    PCOS success stories?

I too have been told I have PCOS. I've never had a regular menstrual period. As a teenager, I can remember different hormonal problems. The nurse explained to me that after my surgery, I should be careful that there is a chance I could get pregnant. It is supposedly a danger to have a baby soon after your surgery. My friend's cousin had gotten pregnant a few months after her surgery and after the baby was born. She complained of severe stomach pain months after the baby was born. She went to the ER and died shortly after arriving. The doctor explained to the mother that she died of complications of the bariatric surgery due to her pregnancy. So sad, she left behind 4 children that the grandmother is raising now. However, even in this forum I have read a women 4 month post op and she is pregnant. I hope everything turns out ok for her. No story is the same and she may be perfectly fine. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

    H Pylori

I had my EGD and my test was negative for H pylori. However, it showed chronic gastritis (inflammation). They tried to give me Prilosec but, I refused it because of the recent finding side effects: KIDNEY FAILURE. I began taking a healthier approach which is Nature's Sunshine Gastro Health. It's not a synthetic drug but a natural healer. I hope that when they check me again before surgery everything will be fine. I'm not big on popping pills but when I do, I like natural and organic meds. Doctors are too quick to push the market drugs on patients regardless of the side effects...you must do your research! H pylori is serious...If left untreated it can cause ulcers and even cancer. The antibiotics are strong...make sure you have eaten enough before taking them. At least, they found it and your on your way to healing. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

New here, procedure set for Jan. 12, 2017!

I'm pre-op...I should have my gastric sleeve surgery date real soon! I'm ready for my relationship with food to end. I have enjoyed eating waaaay to long, I've eaten the best steak, the greatest Mac n cheese, the tastiest Desserts you could imagine. However, as of today, I surrender to it all. It's literally killing me slowly. My health is getting worse, my steps are getting shorter, my social life is non existent because of all the poor food choices I made. After my surgery, I plan to concentrate on keeping the weight off...I'm tired of being FAT...I'm over it!...I'm ready to get this party started. I'm looking for a good Protein shake as well. No chalky taste. Good luck with the surgery. Enjoy your holiday and this time next year...You will much smaller! Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

Your happiness and strength DOES NOT come from him. It comes from within YOU! Don't give him that much credit. If he Loved you? He would not have just threw you away like that...Get tuff, Dig deep, and concentrate on the new you!!! Did you do the surgery for him or YOURSELF? A few months from now...the right guy will step in and show you how a REAL man is suppose to treat you...Don't settle!...Live & Be Patient & Listen to your Spirit!...Hang in there! 20. I received the results from my stress test a few hours ago....Results: (abnormal) I'm VERY disappointed....I even shed a few tears....BUT, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to all the members...you have uplifted me and let me know...I'm not the only one and because the results were abnormal does not mean I won't have the gastric sleeve surgery that I really need. I was on a flight back to Michigan when I received my results...I'm back home now drowning my sorrows at Longhorn Steakhouse with a "perfect margarita"???? & Protein (Ribeye)...Life is Good, Amen! Here we go

I love how regardless of your situation there is a smile on your face. I'm assuming you gave all your problems to the LORD and let him have his way with you. He hasn't brought you this far, to leave you now. I am pre-op, on Coumadin, I see in your situation I might/ or might not have this same issue...I have a world renowned cardiologist who has taken great care of me and he's doing all the checklist before he approves my sleeve surgery....I'm anxious, but PATIENT. TRUST IN GOD, He won't let you down...I stopped in my tracks and said a prayer for you :-D..God Bless! Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App
