  1. Hey Virginia, I am a West Virginia girl who had surgery in Roanoke, Virginia. Welcome and good luck on your weight loss journey.
  2. My doctor said that I may not be able to feel my port until I lose some weight. Try to lay down and feel it. It will work whether or not you can feel it.
  3. 6-8 weeks after surgery sounds right. At 3-4 weeks out you are just barely on solid foods depending on your diet.
  4. Everybody is different. Some people are up and back to work in just a few days while other take a few weeks. You have to remember you a extra done. The lapband was a breeze for me compared to my hysterectomy 3 1/2 years ago. Just be patient, you will see progress in how you are feeling and your weight loss.
  5. Crazy, Maybe you need to see if you can get less than 1cc at your next fill. I have read on one of the threads that you can get as little as .1cc and it makes a difference. Maybe you need something like .4cc or .5cc Ask your doctor.
  6. You are just two days out from surgery!!! That is such an exciting time but also a yucky time. Exciting because you have begun your journey. Yucky because you are healing and dealing with all those liquids. Hang in there it will get better. Experiment with different types of broth and liquids. Find something that will work for you. And just know the reason you did this. You will manage because it sounds like you have a big support system.
  7. Very normal I would rather burp than to have gas pain in the belly. (That hurts ) Try some of those Gas-X strips.
  8. I was on a liquid diet during Easter. It can be rough when everyone is filling their plates full of good food and Desserts, but I had my mind set on my goal and did fine. As far as shakes, my doc suggested Carnation Instant Breakfast drinks. Some stores offer them already mixed and most offer the powdered mix. I like the already mixed better. Good Luck and Happy 4th.
  9. I love food, especially junk food. Suprisingly I am so determined to lose weight and be healthy. I guess it has been my mindset, I really do not miss the goodies.
  10. I too have had great success (42 pounds since March 24th) Before I started this process I ate just to eat. Whether I was hungry or not, large portions, Snacks, etc... I just like food. But when I finally made to descision to get the lapband my whole mindset changed. Remember the band is a tool. It does not make you lose weight, It is your responsibility of what goes in to your mouth. But when you get the right fill and you are not hungry food doesn't seem to rule over you. You will have probably have a psych evaluation and answer lots of questionaires at the doctors office. Go to support meetings and don't worry. You will do fine if you want it bad enough.
  11. START THE PROCESS NOW!!!! Some insurance companies have a 6 month process and some like mine are much shorter. Get all the leg work done (insurance, ekg, etc..) and you could adjust your surgery time around your trip. If you have your surgery before you could investigate what type of foods you will be eating on your trip. You might have to plan well depending on what diet stage you are on at the time of your trip. Welcome and Best of Luck.
  12. Your ticker is back. How did you do that?
  13. No Ticker, sorry, I have not figured it out either. That is why all my info is listed at the bottom.
  14. I have had ice cream two times since I was banded. (3 months and 42 pounds lost) That has been the only sweet treat I have allowed myself to have. I had about 1/4 to 1/2 cup and was satisfied and I did not feel guilty. I did not fall off the wagon and start eating junk or unhealthy foods. I know in the end what my main goal is but I do not intend to live my life without a treat now and then. I do like sugar free fudge pops and popsicle, that satisifies my sweet tooth.
  15. My doctor put me on Carnation Instant Breakfast Protien drinks. Some grocery stores carry the already mixed bottles. I prefer them over what you mix with milk. During the pre-op and post-op diet I drank 4 or 5 a day. They are packed with Vitamins and minerals along with your protien. I still drink one most days because I like them and they give me a full feeling. But I do not rely on them to give me my protien count for the day.
  16. I never thought about needing a medical alert bracelet, but it makes sense. Thanks!!!
  17. Ebeth, More than likely you are fine. I was sore in the port area on and off for a while. I am 12 weeks out and really haven't felt any pain or pulling in my port area for weeks, but tonight at Vacation Bible School I helped move some tables and I actually felt it pulling. 11 days out is not very far along. You will probably feel funny in that area for at least 4 - 6 weeks. Best of luck on your weight loss journey.
  18. Congratulations!!!! and Happy 30th. I just got back from Tennessee where I rode in a helicopter. It was soooo fun. (not as thrilling as skydiving, I'm sure) But, this would have been something I could not have done last year. It was nice not to have to worry If I weighed too much. 70 pounds ago, they would have said no go.
  19. Welcome. You should have lots of valuable information to share with us since you have had your surgery a few years back. Are you at goal or still losing?
  20. Teri, You are doing great!!! Yes, there are weeks that you will lose absolutely nothing. I know it drives me crazy. You may have a week or two with nothing and then all of a sudden you drop 5 pounds. Just remember Protien, Water, exercise. And another thing I have realized. No one is the same. Just keep a good attitude and everything will work out in the end.
  21. Jami, We have the same numbers!!!! I started at 304 and this morning I was 233. I was banded in March. I have had one fill. I go to the doctors this week. I hope not to get a fill. I feel really good, losing steady, not really hungry, able to eat a small portion (less than 1 cup), have not been sick (vomit/slime). I am comfortable with how things are going, I just don't want to mess up a good thing. I am sure I will need a fill eventually. Keep up the good work!
  22. I did tell my family a few people at church and some of my co-workers. I teach so it got around the school what I was doing. Most people are very supportive. A little confused because they think I had Gastric Bypass. So, I have to explain what lapband is and how I think I made the best choice for me. But for those people who ask me how I am losing all the weight, my answer is always: "Smaller portions and excersise" Which is no lie :grouphug: It is your choice who to tell and not to tell. Don't worry about it. Good Luck
  23. Wow, you are doing awesome!!! :grouphug:
  24. I too have struggled most of my life with weight issues partly due to health issues (Poly cystic ovarian disease) and partly due to my unhealthy eating and lack of excercise. I have tired diet pills and WW, etc... Nothing has helped until the lap band. Best of luck on your weight loss journey.
