  1. I know this sounds like such a silly question, but I'm wondering when you know when to stop eating? Of course you're thinking "when you're full".... but I'm not hungry to begin with. I am supposed to eat 5-6 small meals a day. It's a chore to eat 1 or 2 lol but I'm trying to do the 5-6.. so how do I know when to stop when I wasn't hungry to begin with?

  2. I'm starting my soft food stage this weekend. The menu I was given says I can have poached salmon, scrambled eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese. These are all things I can't really eat without getting nauseous. I was wondering if you could give me suggestions of what else I could eat that is soft, even if it is carbs. I know I don't need these things, and once I'm on my regular diet and can eat whatever, I have a strict meal plan and gym plan for myself, but for now, I'm just trying to get by and keep things in my stomach. Any help would be appreciated.

  3. I am on 6 day post surgery and I have been in full liquids and also Protein shakes. I don't like the Premier Protein shakes does anyone have any other kind they like or make their own?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I put the Premier Protein caramel shake in Decaf coffee or sugar free hot chocolate and that helps. I know you don't like the premier, and I'm not a fan of it either, but this way you can't taste it. And I also put a scoop of unflavored Protein in it to get even more protein in. Be careful though because some people become lactose intolerant after surgery :(

  4. I am going through the same thing. My pouch HATES TUNA!! And now I've been sick for about 2 days! Hope you get well soon!

Ugh I hate that you're dealing with the same thing. It has me so upset. I feel like it's such a set back :( are you vomiting or anything? I feel super gassy like I did after surgery but can't seem to burp it out.

Okay so I had something on Wednesday that didn't agree with me. Today's Friday, and I'm still really sick from it. I'm not able to get my Protein or fluids in because it makes me so sick and I'm running to the bathroom. I've talked with my surgeons office and they're not concerned but I really didn't think I would still be sick from it. Plus I'm extremely gassy (burps) from it. Has anyone else experienced staying sick for multiple days because a couple bites of something didn't agree with them?

  5. I am about 3 weeks out and am beginning to feel depressed. I've never felt depressed before. Anyone else feel like they are not themselves anymore? Maybe hormones are out of control. I am never hungry and it is a huge burden to make myself eat anything because I am NOT hungry. I hope this passes. It is not easy to fake happiness and playfulness while being a full time work at home mom.

I am 3 weeks out as well. I have suffered from anxiety and depression since I was little, but my depression has been significantly worse lately. I'm here if you need someone to talk to, as I could use someone myself.

  6. Hi all. My surgery is Jan 20, and I'm in a Facebook group with others having sleeve surgery in January. The ones that have already had the procedure are describing horrible pain from gas. I have yet to read somebody who said it was tolerable. Everyone is in excruciating pain for the first few days, some even staying in the hospital 3 nights.

Does anybody have a surgery story where the pain was bearable? I know it's going to be painful, but I'm not ready for the blinding pain that's being described by others. Help! I'm freaking out!!

I was really worried about the pain after surgery as well. In recovery, apparently I complained so bad that they did an EKG to make sure everything was fine. Thank God it was. But I don't even remember the pain in recovery. Yes, the gas was bad. Pretty bad at times. BUT it was not unbearable !!! Take gas x strips and walk as much as possible because it's the only thing that will help. Best of luck!

  8. I used the heck out of a heating pad. Helped me immensely. Some people were also helped by an abdominal binder, my surgical team said they don't really recommend them, but they don't hurt anything.

I use my binder and it's been a life savor! Lol.

My surgeon said there is no way you will pull stitches or hurt that muscle. Stand up straight to walk. If your stomach feels like it is pulling, hold it or use a binder. I used ice on that part for the first few days and then the pain was tolerable but lasted a couple of weeks.

Mine told me that as well. I was so worried I would "break" something or pop my pouch or stitches but he said little can be done to do that- basically just progressing your diet before you should.

  9. I am two weeks out yesterday, I went to the doctor for checkup today. I still have terrible pain on the left side under my main incision, it hurts when I move basically, when I walk or get in and out of bed, in and out of car etc. I asked the doctor about it and he said it's completely normal. He agreed with me that his higher bmi patients tend to have longer lasting pain from more fat pulling on their stitches in their muscles and explained to me that that's what my pain was, the stitches in the muscular layers still causing me pain. He told me " don't let the small incisions fool you, you had major abdominal surgery and you will be in pain for a while" and he said think of those incisions like you were in a knife fight and you got stabbed very deeply five times, it will take significant time to heal. So rest your fears the pain is normal. As for the people with no pain two days out, they were extremely lucky. But your pain is normal and does not indicate in any way that something is wrong.

I talked to my surgeon yesterday, and he said something similar as well. The day he saw me in the hospital, he said "how do you feel after I legally stabbed you 6 times?" Lol! Which is essentially what they do. I know, from the looks of the incisions, it seems like nothing major was done. I had a very high bmi and carry majority of my weight in my stomach. So it hangs and pulls at the muscles and incisions as well. I pray you feel better soon. ❤️❤️

  10. Everyone is different. I was sore for the first 2 days (body aches and major fatigue). I honestly felt as if I had been beaten; or close to what the flu feels like, lol. For about 3 weeks, it was very hard to swallow liquid. I couldn't gulp at all, and sometimes even the sips were too much. This happened so often that it was as if I had forgotten what normal felt like. Luckily, I didn't experience any nausea. I'm actually very surprised because I'm so prone to getting nauseous when I have a Migraine. So I thought it was odd that even major surgery couldn't make me feel sick to my stomach, lol. XD

Have you taken your B12 Vitamins yet? I'm not sure how I recovered so instantly... I remember coming home and sleeping in my mom's bed for hours (my room was occupied by a hyper Labrador retriever, and I wasn't in the mood to be jumped on, lol). I woke up a few hours later, and that's when the horrible body aches began. I was so sore and I was nearly convinced that I had a fever (but I didn't). So I sat down for a few minutes, drank some Powerade Zero, took a B12 Vitamin (these are my favorite http://c.shld.net/rpx/i/s/i/spin/image/spin_prod_ec_779673801??hei=64&wid=64&qlt=50), and went back to sleep for another several hours. When I woke back up, the body aches were completely gone. I don't know if the B12 helped, but I was wondering how I could feel so awful, and then feel so much better just from taking a long nap.

I also felt sore in my chest area. I had a hiatal hernia fixed, so I think mine was a mix of swelling and costochondritis.

It could be any of these things: Costochondritis, trapped gas, swelling from the surgery, or a bruise on the muscle. Are you resting enough? You could also be overexerting yourself.

Thank you for such a thorough comment. My body is still very achy as well. My shoulders, sides, back, everything lol. Thank God, I woke up today feeling quite a bit better than yesterday. I'm still sore, but not like I have been. I talked to my surgeon yesterday and he said it's just muscle soreness. I see him on Friday, so I can't wait to see what he has to say. I've been on a recliner since I got home from the hospital which has made it almost impossible to sleep. Last night I was able to lay at an uncomfortable angle on my back in bed lol but I finally got good rest!!

  11. Thank you for the info. I feel really good expect I am having some digestive issues that I think may be common. I am also def struggling to get Protein and Water in. I think this Protein Water may help a ton. How is your journey been?

I'm Post Op Day 6 and Gas X strips have become my new best friend! Also the hospital sent me home with an incentive spirometer. The more I used that the less tightness I felt in my chest. Walking helped as well. I hope your surgeon is able to give you some answers. Hang in there in the meantime! We're all going to get through this together!

  13. Today's the day!!!! Four hours until my sleeve surgery. I didn't sleep worth a hoot. Awake every hour, but I think that's probably expected. Developed laryngitis since Sunday night. Nurse said it won't be a problem. Praying my doctor is of the same thinking. My throat is already sore. The breathing tube will probably add to that soreness.

Question: Did everyone have someone with them after they returned from the hospital? Is it a necessity?

Good luck!! I'll say a prayer for you. The breathing tube will make it worse, but only for a couple days. It's not too bad once you can start sipping on Water. And yes, I'm married and so my husband was home with me. My mom stayed too to help. You don't HAVE to have someone, but it's best if you can because if you're too sore to get up and get things, they're there for you. Although you definitely need to get up and walk! :) and you also shouldn't bend over. So if you drop something, they can get it for you. But if you'll be alone, I'll sure you'll do great! Keep us updated :)

  14. @justabitunique Thank you. I'm really thinking I've either hurt myself or I have adhesions. I know by reading so many posts on this site, this is not typical pain. I'm sure you will feel better every day, as you move through this journey. Don't feel like you can't take your pain meds or another pain reliever authorized by your surgeon. It's better to stay ahead of the pain. I wish you the best of luck!

That's why I've been a bit anxious. I see so many posts about people feeling great after day 2 and I still feel miserable.. I've only seen a few people say they still felt bad for weeks.

  15. I'm 7 weeks out tomorrow and I STILL have pretty hard right side pain. My surgeon said it can take up to 10 weeks to heal. I try to walk every day but I have to watch my speed. If I want to get to a cardio level I have to bind my stomach with the wrap I got from the hospital. I say keep moving but don't overdo it. My surgeon said yes to ice but no to heat.

Oh wow! I'm sorry you're still hurting. I have to hold my stomach when I walk and lean forward. It hurts to stand straight because it pulls at my stomach. I'm also afraid I'll mess something up if I stand correctly. I pray you feel better soon!

  16. Gosh -- thanks for asking: 8 eggs; 1 c Fairlife Milk; 1 c skim mozzarella cheese; 5 Tbs unflavored Unjury; three twists of black pepper.

Mix all together, spray a round cake pan with Pam, pour all ingredients in, bake at 350 for 40 minutes -- I ate about 1/8 at a time.

Second time we made it with super ground up 99% fat free turkey sausage --- about six ounces total.

I just could not stomach pureed meats either, but knew I needed to start making the switch over to more solid foods, and this did hit the spot. Good luck!

This sounds delicious! Thank you so much for sharing

@@theantichick You were talking about refried Beans. I haven't started my puree stage yet, I start Wednesday, but my friend told me she would puree refried Beans with beef broth and Protein powder and she loved it and I thought that sounded good too and intend to try it!!

    That's a good idea! Thank you :)
