    New 60+ Thread

Well, it's me again. I have just requested 'friendship' with each of you ladies posting on this thread. I hope to come here often enough to get to know all of you. I have gotten to know folks on 2 threads at WW in the last 3 years and usually go there first, when I get a chance at the 'puter. I really should make this my first stop. It's this kind of support and info I need to be a part of now. KarenIn, I am in Dallas. I went to UTSouthwestern and the dietition said at the moment their support stinks  but I don't have time to attend meetings anyway. Am helping to raise 4 grands and babysitting 10- 12 hrs a day with 4 more.

Phyl, yes I am using lite cool whip. But, alas, for DH I was buying frozen, sweetened strawberries. Looks like we'll go with the unsweetened, even fresh (prep just takes so long and I am usually tiiiiiirrrred by the time we do them. whine..whine) and use splenda, if we need more sweet. Wonder how honey affects the diabetic? I just did mashed cauflower a couple of days ago. It is really good. Of course cauliflower is good to me anyway. I'll have to try using them in salmon patties. I just bought the Hungry girl cookbook. Lots of good low fat/low sugar recipies. Even onion rings and 'fried' green tomatoes. yumm

What's the difference in New Reply and Quick Reply? I'll have to check out the friend thing. I hadn't even noticed it Thanks Phyl, I know I need to get back into compliance. My DH was just diagnosed with borderline diabetes yesterday. Don't know how they did that. He's never had even a fasting blood sugar. Maybe his BS was sky high when they took it two different times. At the VA. His Dad was diabetic, so it's something I've been concerned about, so we will definitely be doing fbs's when he gets the glucometer in the mail. They put him on a med too, when he gets it. Anyway, we will have to change his diet, so will be easier to get me to behave, also  Will have to bring the grandkids along for the ride. Got to be healthier for them too. Altho I can't afford fruit for all of them (4-11..8 mo.-15 yrs) for 2-3 meals and Snacks a day. I don't really like to feed them artificial sweeteners, but it looks like I'm going to have to, and the food prep is destined to become more involved. I'm supposed to be retired :<(. But I would hate to not have them around.

    New 60+ Thread

Good Evening, Thanks Judy and Phyl. I was banded on 2/1/08 and have lost about 30 lbs. I'm not sure, I gain Fluid and then loose it in a day sometimes. I'm frustrated, and I know I shouldn't be. I've had 2 fills and am due for one next Monday. Have not reached that sweet spot and am still fighting the Lion and myself, also. Just am not disciplining that sweet tooth enough. Decided to do Dr Atkins type eating. Trouble is when I actually did Dr Atkins I had to do 0..0 carbs for several weeks and my tummy just can't handle all that Protein without something other than, for more than a week, and I totally blew it yesterday, so continued on today. Have strawberry shortcake planned for bed time snack. I think you have both helped me. Tomorrow I will do better and leave the bread, Cereal and sugar alone. I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me. carlene

    New 60+ Thread

Hi, I haven't been here in a while, and every time I come I say I'll remember how much I gain here, and comee back often. My Sr moments sometimes last awhile BJANE I hope you are not doing what I did. It took me almost a week and lots of gas pain to remember I am very sensitive to milk and I was making my shakes with milk. DUH!! I hate that word, but it fit at the time When I switched to soy milk it cured the problem I used Sugar Free Carnation Breakfast as my liquid meals. They make 3 flavors and it beats anything else, for me. be blessed, carlene

    Low Carb Recipies

I'm amazed no one has been here in so long. I found a bonanza today and copied and saved almost everything. Thanks so much to all of you. I have had 2 fills but haven't reached the 'sweet spot' so have resorted to high pro/low carb (which is what I think they told us to start with :incazzato: ), because I refuse to gain or regain another pound. carlene

    New 60+ Thread

Good Evening, Just wanted to say "hi" and "thanks". I've been lurking, mainly because by this time of evening I am exhausted from babysitting. I was banded on 2/1/08 and had my 1st fill on 3/4. I've been hungrier since the fill than I was before, and am flirting with 2 lbs, up and down, up and down. Altho I have stopped the sugar since my fill, had cheated some on FF Fig newtons, before. I think a lot of my hunger is "head hunger" just caused by stress. Won't c/o that here or now, just wanted to say thanks. All the encouragement to others has helped a lot. carlene

I am staying on plan today because I haven't been and the scale has not been going down.
  11. Hi, I was banded 2/1 in Dallas, TX at U T Southwestern Medical School, Zale/Lipshy Hospital, By Dr. Rivas. I am now on solid foods. Some days I feel hungry every couple of hours, but a peice of fruit, a sugar free popsicle or sugar free drink will fill me up. I feel really blessed. My PCP of 20+ years has told me the last few years to "go for it, if you can find someone who will do it". I have breathing and heart issues, so was not brave enough to really look for someone, until my Seniors Pastors wife got hers scheduled. She's my age (65) and has most of my same kind of problems. Hers was done across town, but another friend at church had hers done about the same time at U T Southwestern, so I checked them out and liked them. So.........here I am, started on the journey....think I'll really like this website...looking forward to getting to know you all. carlene
  12. My mom was very thin, so had a thin face and I take after her. Not beautiful, unless she smiled, which she seldom did. I think I've really gotten ugly in my old age. Almost anything will be an improvement, and I love to smile:cool2:. My bat wings will fly me anywhere. And my tummy hang over will be massive. But my blood pressure is already down some, and my doc has given me med decrease instructions in preparation for more. Better health is on the way. I'll take it. carlene

    Hair issues

I am 5 weeks post op. One of the ladies was talking about loosing a lot of hair at my post op nutrition class. I've had no problem. I would just listen to your DR., take all your Vitamins and eat plenty of Protein. (The protein will keep you full, and not hungry as a bonus :sneaky:.) enjoy the journey, forget to stress carlene

    post op diet cheating

I am new to this too, but am to the solid food stage. Please, please stick to the plan. I used Carnation Instant Breakfast sugar free for my whole liquids time. It tastes good, to me, and kept me full. When I was hungry I added Crystal Light to my Water and that helped to fill me up more than just water. This, too, shall pass. I had homemade healthy pizza today. Was sure I would want some more by at least 8 pm. Not so, I'm still full, and I wasn't stuffed at 4. I feel extremely blessed, but I know you can do it. The progression of liquids to mush to solid will help your tummy to heal without mishap so they can fill it asap and not have to wait longer because your tummy moved it around and didn't let it heal quickly . carlene
