  1. Hi all,

First, thanks for all the encouragement. In 48 hours my wife and I head off the Keys to a nice hotel in Miami. We are two hours away and didn't want the travel stress the morning of the operation. Then I'm being banded Tuesday morning. Hopefully home that night. Taking the rest of the week off then back to work (as a Hospice Chaplain) on Monday.

Didn't cheat on my two weeks of Optifast only pre op diet. So I'm hoping the surgery will be quick and easy.:cheers2: I'll let you all know how it goes.

  2. :cheers2:

I just have to have nothing but liquids the day before and nothing at all midnight before surgery. Is this normal? Don't I have to reduce the fat around my liver?... or does it just make it eaiser for the surgeon and mine dosen't need the aid (which is the impression I got from the doc's office)?

hi, Some more thoughts.... I don't want to get anyone with a different opinion mad. I've never heard of a Doc, saying it is BAD to be on a low fat diet prior to Surgery. Some require (like mine) to be on a low fat, all liquid diet.

Mostly, it seems to be an issue of the size of the liver. The operation can be done with a large liver. The issue is the ease and time of the operation. If the liver is small, the operation is easier.

Now, it seems to me that to some degree the Drs, want to say they have the skill and can do the operation either way... but if it can be easier, less time under general, why not?

So is a low fat diet necessary? no. Is it a good idea...... Up to you.

  3. Thanks for the reply,

My sponsor said he would hold my pain meds, and give me a days worth at a time.

More folks seem to relapse over surgery and relationships!

I'm clean and sober for almost 5 years, my life is good and now getting the band.

  4. Hi, Just got a call from my Dr. office. the surgery date was changed from 3/25 to 3/26 and to a different hospital. They said the first hospital couldn't get the lap band. Has anyone heard about this happening? The Dr. has done lots (over one thousand lap bands) at the hospital I'm going to, so it probably is for the best, I'm just nervous and this didn't help.

  5. Hi,

I heard going on the liquid pre op diet is hard, head aches, grochy, etc so I was afraid, and have been eating a mostly liquid diet prior to the pre op. The liquid diet starts on tuesday and I've lost 12 pds. already. I was told many people loose 15 pds on pre op diet. so I'll be down 20 to 25 pds before the surgery. Then any ab surgery makes you feel bad so plan on another 10 pds. If I am down 35 pds prior to the lap band kicking in..........
