I was on the edge of the 40 BMI, so I slouched and took an inch off my height, then loaded up on Water, and filled my pockets with change. They said my BMI was 41.

Hi Moonshadow:Good luck! I'm toughing it out with the Clear Liquids starting tomorrow.
We have the same band date! Take care and I'll think a good thought for you.

Hi all,
First, thanks for all the encouragement. In 48 hours my wife and I head off the Keys to a nice hotel in Miami. We are two hours away and didn't want the travel stress the morning of the operation. Then I'm being banded Tuesday morning. Hopefully home that night. Taking the rest of the week off then back to work (as a Hospice Chaplain) on Monday.
Didn't cheat on my two weeks of Optifast only pre op diet. So I'm hoping the surgery will be quick and easy.:cheers2: I'll let you all know how it goes.

:cheers2:I just have to have nothing but liquids the day before and nothing at all midnight before surgery. Is this normal? Don't I have to reduce the fat around my liver?... or does it just make it eaiser for the surgeon and mine dosen't need the aid (which is the impression I got from the doc's office)?
hi, Some more thoughts.... I don't want to get anyone with a different opinion mad. I've never heard of a Doc, saying it is BAD to be on a low fat diet prior to Surgery. Some require (like mine) to be on a low fat, all liquid diet.
Mostly, it seems to be an issue of the size of the liver. The operation can be done with a large liver. The issue is the ease and time of the operation. If the liver is small, the operation is easier.
Now, it seems to me that to some degree the Drs, want to say they have the skill and can do the operation either way... but if it can be easier, less time under general, why not?
So is a low fat diet necessary? no. Is it a good idea...... Up to you.

My Dr. said if I am on the pre op diet (two weeks of optifast) then that will shrink the liver. He said he can do the operation just fine with no pre op diet, but it will take longer. The shorter the operation, less time under general anesthesia means less and easier recovery time.
I'm being banded on Tuesday, the pre op diet was terrible but I'm hoping it was worth it.

I'm just finishing my pre op diet. Two weeks of Optifast only. It was terrible but the Dr. said it will really help recovery time. Being banded this Tuesday the 25th. Will let you know.

Hi, I'm being banded this Tuesday, and planning on going back to work the next Monday. So five days off. I'll let you know how it goes. If I don't work, I don't get paid. If it was different, I might take longer.

Will do. The 25th is Tuesday. My wife an I are going to get a hotel near the Hospital the night before.
Will let you know when it is done!!!!!!!!!!!

My Date is the 25th as well. I'm in the Florida keys, surgery in Miami. I'll have a good thought for you on the 25th. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the reply,
My sponsor said he would hold my pain meds, and give me a days worth at a time.
More folks seem to relapse over surgery and relationships!
I'm clean and sober for almost 5 years, my life is good and now getting the band.

Hi, My DR told me to go on an all liquid (optifast) diet for two weeks prior to the surgery. He said that if I shrank the liver the surgery would be quicker and then my recovery would be easier.
So I have been on this all liquid, very low cal diet. My surgery is next week on Tuesday and I've lost 20pds. My hope is when the Dr looks in me, he will see a small liver!!!!!!!!!!

Your lucky! I'm on two weeks of just Optifast. I'd love some V8.
My surgery date is 3/25. Good luck to you.

Tanks all, Great ideas.
I couldn't stand it last night and "cheated" I had a cup of chicken broth. It was great.
My dated is 3/25. I've lost 18 pds on my pre- pre op diet and now my pre op diet.
I'm a Chaplain for Hospice and see many people facing an early end of life because of live style choices. I don't want that for me so, this at age 52 will help me change that for me.

Thanks......
I focus on the hunger not the reasons I'm doing this.

I put led fishing weights in my pockets, I also slumped when they took my height, that made my BMI higher.

Hi,
Yup clean and sober for the last 4 1/2 years. Being banded on 3/25. Afraid of pain and pain meds! Need to trust higher power.

See you on the other side.

Thanks so much,

Hi, Just got a call from my Dr. office. the surgery date was changed from 3/25 to 3/26 and to a different hospital. They said the first hospital couldn't get the lap band. Has anyone heard about this happening? The Dr. has done lots (over one thousand lap bands) at the hospital I'm going to, so it probably is for the best, I'm just nervous and this didn't help.

ME To!!!!!!!!! 3/25 in Miami. Have lost 12 pds, and hope to loose another 25 prior to the big date.

Hi,
I heard going on the liquid pre op diet is hard, head aches, grochy, etc so I was afraid, and have been eating a mostly liquid diet prior to the pre op. The liquid diet starts on tuesday and I've lost 12 pds. already. I was told many people loose 15 pds on pre op diet. so I'll be down 20 to 25 pds before the surgery. Then any ab surgery makes you feel bad so plan on another 10 pds. If I am down 35 pds prior to the lap band kicking in..........
Easter dinner... Yummy...
