Hi, I didn"t need pain meds. I love my band, it's not very tight so I eat anything I want. It just tells me when to stop, if I ignore the band.... I pay the price. If you want to loose fast then the band gets real tight. But for me, a pound or so a week and being able to eat anything is fine. Good luck.

Hi, I went to him and had a great experience. I was banded on 3/25 and have lost 45 pds. He is great.

Hi all, I was banded on 3/25 and am down 45 pds (20 pre op). Really other than minor issues it really didn't feel like I had much restriction. Well yesterday i got my 3rd fill and am now at 5.5 in a 10 cc band. Well I got real hungry today and ate too fast and didn't chew.... well had my 1st PB. and hopefully it will be my last.

hi, I got the realize band on March 25th. I love it, down 50pds. Both bands are good... each band has it's zealots. Do your research and talk with your Dr. I haven't heard anyone who got either band say they were sorry and wish they had gotten the other.

Yes all Drs. are different. But I have never heard one say it is a bad idea to do a pre op. It does shrink the liver. Yes a good surgeon can do the band with a large liver but it takes longer. Longer surgery means more time on general anesthesia, more gas, more pain in post op etc. My surgery was only 12 mins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very easy post op. No gas pain. Plus a pre op diet makes it easier with the new eating patterns post op. I lost 20pds. pre op, and have lost 30pds post op in 9 weeks.

Hi, I'm just banded. 3/25. At 53 and a male, it is the best thing I have ever done. Yes, you feel so full on a fraction of what you are now eating. Do your research, read the posts, put yourself first. I'm down 45pds since starting this journey. Take care

I was told mine is a 10cc band. Second fill and I am at 4.5. Feels like I need more.

Hi, I was on the Optifast shakes only!! (no Soup or bars or nothing) This was for the two weeks prior to surgery. The first three days were hard but then it wasn't bad. I didn't cheat. The surgery was very easy, very quick, short time on general anesthesia. I lost 20 pds pre op! I love my band, I'm down another 25pds in 9 weeks post op.

Each Dr. is different, mine said I could do anything anytime if I wanted to. I waited 6 or was it 5 1/2 days?

HI, Congrats on losing the weight. As a guy, trust me we notice! But we don't say a thing out of fear. It is too bad but we don't say a thing about a womans appearance.... Well I tell my DW that she is beautiful.

Hi,
I could, and did eat an entire bag of oreos b4 banding. I've been banded for 9 weeks and have no desire to now eat a whole bag. I would like some but it is easy to not have any. I've lost 45pds (20 pre op) this is fast and not typical but not unheard of. You can beat the band... ice cream, shakes, etc. Most ppl are very very happy with their band, but not all. The people who fail are eating for non hunger reasons. A good psych evaluation will help you figure it out. The band is a tool.... a great tool. It is not a magic answer.

"Easy way out" Next time someone says that ask if they clean their clothes on a rock, or take the easy way out and use a machine.
It isn't easy.... but if it were, so what!!!!!!!!!!
Do they take the easy way out and get glasses or do the hard work and learn brail?
Just my rant......sorry

Hi, Both my kids were born C_Section, no pain at all..... But then again I was the Dad!!!!.

Hi, I only weigh myself once a week. I do it Monday morning. That has helped me with the weekends. I also pick a food I am allowed to eat, but restricted it to "only on the weekends" that way I can have a special treat on the weekend, but don't blow my food plan. I'm loosing 2pds a week.
-
Hi, Hang in there. I was on Optifast only for two weeks. 5 small shakes a day. But..... My band surgery was only 12 mins. long. The shortest I have ever heard of. The liver was fine, small, and out of the way. Short surgery equals short time under general which means quick recovery and for me, no gas pains. I lost 20 pds pre op and 20pds first two weeks post op, so.... 40 pds down and only 40 to go before my first fill was done.

I got the realize band and like it. But as was said I don't think there is a "bad" band. You need to trust your DR and do good research so when there is a bump in the road you won't be second guessing yourself.
-
When someone tells you the lapband is the easy way.... "Easy!!, it isn't easy, it's hard. But if it were easy, so what? Do they still clean their clothes on a rock in a stream? or do they do it the EASY way and use a machine?"

I'm a guy with the Realize band and love it.

Yup, here is another.

Great!!!!!!!!!! I didn't have gas pain. Good luck to you.

I"ve only had one fill. No pain at all, very easy. Next one is next Friday.

My Mom was morbidly obese, my Dad died of diabetes, even with some post op problems I'm so glad I did this. The first week I was asking "what have I done to myself"
-
My experience, I woke up in pain and the meds they were giving me didn't do the job so they had to call the Dr. who checked on me and I told him to "get me out of pain or when I was better I'd hunt him down and show him real pain" it worked.... cause he gave me a shot that knocked me out, when I woke there was no pain. After that I never took any pain meds other than a bit of Tylenol at home.

Thanks for the notes. I questioned myself the first few days, "what have I done to myself" but within a few days that stopped. Now 2 1/2 months later, down 40 pds, it is a decision I wish I had made earlier in my life.
Anyone use Dr. Nestor De La Cruz Munoz in Miami??

Hi,
The ins. paid the Hospital but I had to pay him 3k. I think he is great and would recommend him regardless of cost.
