  1. I'm so glad I had this surgery, and for me (at only two months post op) there are zero regrets. I had my moments where I really questioned my decision prior to surgery, and one little panic incident in the hospital over making a huge, irreversible change to my body that I couldn't go back on. But everything was okay. I'm not going to lie, the recovery sucked -and this coming from someone who didn't have any pain once I left the hospital, but it's major surgery your body is recovering from with no food for energy. Of course recovery sucks. But once you get passed that (for me it took two weeks), it's smooth sailing. I don't even really feel like I've had surgery at this point, and eating less is not something I have an issue with.

  2. I swear you could have written this about me! I feel the same way you do, and my Dr.'s say the same thing. No guilt....its just like everything else! And isn't it funny the things we think we are dying for, then have 1 teeny bite and then are all...."meh' about it. Love it!

I do find it strange but wonderful how things that used to taste so good now are meh! And for me it's the things I really shouldn't have anyway. I had a bite of a little Debbie, what once was my weakness and I couldn't stop at just one, and I didn't like it at all! It tasted so bland and processed to me - totally gross. I didn't want more after that bite, and ended up giving the rest to my more than willing sister.

  3. I hope ur right, but I am not even doing any weights... i am just really discouraged right now. My calorie intake is less than 1250 a day.

You're not doing anything wrong. Hang in there! These stalls are so incredibly common! Not to mention you are starting out at a low weight so your numbers are going to be much lower than what you are probably seeing from others.

My pre-pre-op diet weight was 244, lost ten pounds that week, surgery weight was 234, and j lost an additional 24 pounds my first two weeks after surgery. But then I needed fluids, which put me up 5 pounds, and there I stayed for another four weeks!!! That was so frustrating to me. There were moments I thought I was going to be the first person whom weightloss surgery didn't work for. But then finally in the sixth week I lost 3 pounds, so slowly, down one, up one, down two, up one, down one, etc, until it settled at 212, which is where it stayed for about a week. It was very discouraging, especially because my weight at 2 weeks was lower and I felt like I could not get back to that. And then overnight, finally, I dropped four pounds. The stall is finally over. And believe it or not, what I did differently was I ate more carbs. Not a ton, but I did. Last night I had spaghetti for dinner. I mostly ate the meat sauce, but I did have some noodles too. So for me, it was about upping my carbs and my calories. Though that may not be your issue.

The point of my long rambling - when I was feeling my worst about not losing, when week after week the scale wasn't moving so early on, what reset my mind every single time was to take a look at how much I did loose. For me that was 29-34 pounds. Prior to surgery that would have made me so happy if I lost that in two months time, so here I am, a month and a half out, how could I not be happy? So you lost (I can't remember exactly) 12 pounds or so in three weeks. That's amazing! That would be great for one month's time! Just stick with it, get your Protein and fluids in, and it will happen. No choice but to happen, as much as your body might try to hold on. Be the stubborn one and win this battle with your body.

  4. I was in the same boat. I lost 34 pounds in three weeks, then nothing for four weeks. FOUR WEEKS! This was very frustrating to me in the moment, but then I remind myself that 34 pounds is a lot to lose in the first month, heck, two months, let alone three weeks, and then I'm okay with it, knowing I'm still on track. One thing j had to do was up my liquid intake, which is still a major struggle, as well as upping my carb intake or calorie intake. I did both at the same time, so I'm not sure if it was one or the other or both that has helped.

  5. My doctor lifts the straw restriction at two weeks for what it's worth. He said as long as it's not causing added discomfort from gas, use it as I please. It never gave me gas, and I was very happy to have my straw back! As for the wonton wrappers...I'm sure they're not on your plan yet. I'm trying to remember my own plan, and I think at four weeks I could have wraps...maybe...but that was still at least four weeks. I would run it by your nut. If you've been tolerating other foods, they may allow it. I do remember my nut telling me my stomach will have an easier time with wraps than breads. But again, ask your nut.

  6. Don't look at it as cheating! You had three bites. What would you have had prior to the surgery? This somewhat goes against a lot of what I see posted here, but I think the mentality of 'cheating' or what you can and can't have is what sets people up for failure - one cheat or bad day tailspins into inevitable more setbacks. My doctors office doesn't have my meal plan set up like this at all. In fact, they've said I can eat anything I want, but to eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs. My surgeon said as long as I follow this plan, I will lose. And because of this, I haven't felt deprived (though I've also had zero cravings for old favorites) nor have I felt like I've cheated. I have had pizza and other foods, some of which was on my plan very early on, much to the surprise of many, like mashed potatoes, but I don't eat nearly the amount I once did. And through this I've found foods that once tasted amazing to me now don't. I'll have a bite or two and wonder what the appeal was.

  7. I'm 2 weeks post op and don't even get in 10g Protein a day [emoji17] I have an appt tomorrow. Just be glad you're getting what you are

Once I moved on to soft foods, which for me included canned chicken or tuna with a little light mayo, low fat cheese, and some other easy to digest foods, meeting my Protein goals was no longer a chore.

  8. Could it possibly be gas? I'm four weeks post op and had something very similar the other day. I was worried about it being a leak too after searching for similar symptoms on this board. Mine did go away, and I did notice one time it went away right after burping. My other thoughts for you, since you said radiating, is possible your gall bladder - though that is rather quick after surgery unless it was already in bad shape. I had my gall bladder taken out more than a decade ago and the pain definitely radiated around and felt like squeezing, though it was in my upper stomach, not sternum.

Another suggestion, it could be esophageal spasms. I just thought of this and I did have them for about two weeks after surgery, starting in the hospital. It does feel painful and a bit like trapped gas. My surgeon gave me meds to relax the esophagus, and they helped tremendously. That would actually be my first guess for you so close after surgery. This is especially true if you had a hiatal hernia repaired as well (though it could still happen without).

  9. 1. I can't wait to go swimming - at the beach, at the resort while on vacation, at a waterpark - I can only remember swimming one time in the past 16 years, and it's something I used to love. Now I have a 2 year old daughter, and I really want to spend a lot of time at the beach with her this year.

    2. Somewhat related to the last one; I can't wait to enjoy summer! I usually stay cooped up indoors when it's hot out because there was no way I would wear shorts or shirts cool enough for hot, humid summers. Not to mention I think the heat is much harder on an obese person. I'm not sure, but I can't wait to find out. I'm fully looking forward to all that summer has to offer (including cute little summer dresses).

    3. As others have mentioned, I can't wait to see something in a store and know it will still look cute on me at my new smaller size.

    4. I can't wait to run a 5K with relative ease and without stopping.

    5. I can't wait for my family vacations coming up at the end of this year, not being the slowest one while out touring, not feeling like I'm inconveniencing others by needing breaks, not being excluded from activities due to my weight or my challenges with my weight (zip line, indoor flying places, rock walls, etc).

  10. It happens. Your body is healing and adjusting. I lost 34 pounds with the pre-op diet (one week for me) and the first two weeks and have been stalled since. I'm currently 4 weeks and two days post op. Yes, I'm eating foods now, but no where near what a normal diet would call for. This is something that is typical with weight loss and even wls. Just keep on keeping on and it will come off. That's what I tell myself.

  11. Thank you for writing this! I will be 4 weeks post-op on Wednesday and have been stalled for almost two weeks. What may be worse is that I got fluids via iv at my two week check up and went up five pounds. The stall started with those five pounds (though I did lose 35 during the one week pre-op diet and those first two weeks post-op). I just keep chugging on, knowing I'm being irrational but still having that niggling doubt that I won't lose more.

  12. The liquid stage was the absolute worst. Bordered on torture for me, lol. I'm 3 weeks out and on mushies/soft foods, and it is so much better. For those who worry because they were grazers - I was somewhat worried about this, but at this point I've found there's no reason to worry. After I eat, I am so full I can't imagine taking another bite of anything for a couple hours. And then when I'm no longer full, it's time to eat again. At this point I'm supposed to be eating every 2 hours, and sometimes even that doesn't feel like enough time between. It's been just under two hours since I last ate and I'm still full right now. It takes me just about the whole day to eat something I used to eat in one setting. Such as today, at lunch I ordered the tilapia with mashed potatoes and spinach. It also came with two pieces of garlic bread. I didn't touch the garlic bread and ended up throwing the spinach out after maybe four or five bites total today. I did finish the fish and most of the potatoes (my plan allows for mashed potatoes) but that was after 4 mini-meals. I'm able to eat about 2-3 ounces at a time.

  13. I did for sure. I started on puréed foods last Thursday, and I also got a couple of bags of fluids at the hospital for dehydration. I knew not to weigh myself for a few days after that because the fluids will make the scale go up, but I thought it would be safe to weigh myself over the weekend. I am up 5 pounds from what I was last Thursday, although I have not weighed myself since. I also have not had a bowel movement in two weeks, though I do not feel constipated at all.
