  1. I had my surgery 12/28, feeling all kinds of ways, you may think mentally you are prepared however until you have had it your not. I think forums and buddies are great as they keep you accountable. I 4"11 and would love to be part of the forum

I am 4' 11" too. Do you mind sharing your stats? Hoping to find someone who is similar. I was 199 before my pre-op diet, 192 on the day of surgery (11/18/16), and I am currently 171 and have been stuck here for two weeks.

  2. Keep a food journal of every bite of food and sip of Water.

At the end of the day add up your Protein and carbs.

I shoot for 4:1 no less than 100 grams of Protein and no more that 25 grams of carbs . Stick to whole foods without additives and try to drink as much free (clear) Water as you can.

Lots (most?) of overweight people don't drink nearly enough water. I have actually wondered if we are actually fat because we don't drink enough water.

I agree, the food journal has been very helpful!

  3. 2 things to consider.

1 - Your progress is best measured in percentages, not pounds. Weight loss numbers like some of us have seen early (Myself included) are too often driven by the fact that we are looking to Lose more than what you weighed before your surgery! In my first year Post-Op, I lost about 100 pounds (sounds GREAT), but that is just 55% of my weight loss goal. Perspective is a HUGE part of this process.

2 - Keep a SERIOUS eye on your Protein and Daily Vitamin intake. I found that when I didn't get 80 grams a day of Protein through supplements and foods, that I did not lose AT ALL. Check in with your Nutritionist and keep a diary of Everything you Eat and Drink every day. That's what has worked for me, and I hope it helps you.

Thank you. I've had some very good suggestions since posting. In just the last couple days I have worked hard to increase my Water intake and oh boy...what a difference! I am so full..all day long and I feel better to. I think it's completely reasonable not to expect huge losses considering where I started. But with that said I am a proactive person therefore I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing anything to sabotage my loss. After all, that is how I got where I am now. Never again though :) Again thank you for taking the time to reply. I really do put a lot of thought into what people suggest!

  4. Let me add this:

Can we please just stop with the "you need to exercise more" thing? With as little calories as we consume, especially so early out post op, there is no need to kill yourself exercising. 15-30 minutes of walking is more than sufficient. I've seen too much exercise actually hinder weight loss in people, and I'm one of them. I think once we can eat enough calories to support it, then we can look into moderate exercise and strength training.

You're a "lightweight" in the WLS world, therefore your weight loss won't be as fast as others. I agree with the poster above: concentrate on Protein and Water...lots of Water. Don't worry abouy calories right now. Eat on a schedule, and every 2 hours.

Also, take your measurements. I'd be willing to bet you're also losing inches.

Do your thing and try not to compare yourself to others. After all, comparison is the theif of joy.

Well said and well spoken. Thank you!

  5. I notice that your start weight was 192. I have noticed that people who weigh more tend to lose quicker at first. Probably has more to to with osing retained Water that fat. I felt I was losing slowly and discussed it with my NUT. Her advice was to increase my calories by adding more fat... It's that whole body in starvation mode thing... I did it and lost five pound in the next 7 days and at least 2 pounds a week since.

I would be losing more but I slacked off on exercise last week.

Can I ask what kind of food did you incorporated into your diet to up your fat intake? I have my "go tos" but would love to have more options?
avocado, Mayonnaise, olive oil, sometimes heavy cream or butter. I use full fat yogurt, 2% milk cottage cheese and 1% milk.

Keep in mind that you started off at a weight that is close to some people's "goal weight" and that you've lost 5% of your total weight.

Yes I'm keeping that in mind..however I should have mentioned that I am 4' 11". According to my Dr a healthy weight would range between 98 and 140ish. I'm should also say that I am just fine with losing slow as long as I know I'm not doing anything to sabotage my opportunity.

  6. If you started at 192 and you lost 10 lbs that is around 5% of your body weight.

Low BMI people are not going to drop 30 lbs in the first 6 weeks.

These posts are getting more and more ridiculous

I said this on the first page.
I appreciate the suggestions. I will be trying them. It is completely understandable that with a lower starting weight I will lose slower. I can take constructive criticism but the comment saying "these post are getting more and more ridiculous" was totally uncalled for.

  7. I'm 6 weeks post-op and I've only lost 10 pounds. What am I doing wrong? I haven't had bread Pasta or potatoes and I'm watching my portions yet I am not losing like anyone else on here I see. I expected a slow loss what this is starting to make me feel defeated. On top of that , even though I feel my restriction I quickly get hungry again...

Why don't you post up what you have been eating for the last week. Maybe we can spot some ways to help you.
Posted what I'm eating. Let me know what you think!

  8. @@Monesty How many calories is that total for the day? It seems like a lot. I'm only 4 WkS out but couldn't take in near that much in a day. Are you exercising in any way? Also your Water intake has got to be higher, 26 oz is not nearly enough, a minimum of 64 oz is needed and this will help with your weights too.

Well breakfast is about 160 calories, protien shakes is 160, full day of Snacks are about 200, dinner is about 300. Yes I'm exercising but not as much as I should be. I'm working on that and increasing my Water intake.
This is why I'm concerned. I do not feel like my sleeve is working. I have had zero problems eating since my surgery. I do feel restriction, but it is short lived. Also if I increase my protien intake then I also increase my calories. I don't know what to do?

  10. I had them and then when I went on Prevacid I realized it was stomach acid. Not hunger pangs. Boom they were gone within hours

This is good to know. I have a prescription that my Dr gave my for stomach acid but haven't been taking it because I thought I didn't have it. Maybe I'm mistaking this for hunger?? I'm going to try my Prevacid!

Hang in there. Everyone's weight lost rate is different. Are you writing everything down in a journal? Are you walking? Don't feel defeated. Maybe some modifications in what you are doing is needed to jump start the metabolism. I have heard this from one of my friends, she had the same issue. She kept at it. Changed up her exercise routine and increased her Water intake.
Thank you. I'm trying to keep my head up. I posted on here I hopes to see that there is still light at the end of the tunnel. I just need to know that this slow of a loss has happened to others and they still had success.

  13. In order to help you we really would need to know a little more like how many calories are you taking in a day? How much Protein? How many carbs? Are you tracking all of this? If not you should start. I use myfitnesspal to track everything. Plus realize that you did start with a lower bmi so your loss will be slower than say mine because I started at 316 pounds so I'm gonna take off more a lot quicker until I reach a lower bmi.

Yes I am using the Bariastic application. Sorry about the lag in reply. I feel asleep soon after my post :)

  14. Thank you for all the replies. I do need to up the exercise. I've been getting on my elliptical for about 10 min a day but I can/should do more.

Here is what my daily meal plan looks like.

7:30ish-Triple Zero yogurt OR steel cut oatmeal (plain, 120 calories, 3 grms of sugar) with a scoop of P2B in it (I can only eat about half of it). Some days I do two eggs instead.

    9:30ish-Premier Protien shake

11:30ish- tuna packet and apple sauce OR protien of some sort (for example 2 chix wings or some turkey bacon).

3:30ish- 1/2 a cup low fat cottage cheese OR cheese and a few pieces of turkey bacon. Sometimes I may substitute this with a few Harvest Snaps

5 or 6:00- Some sort of protien like fish, chix, or ground turkey and a veggie. Last night I had half of a stuffed green pepper (I substituted rice with cauliflower rice).

I sip Water all day but I'll admit I'm only taking in about 26 oz. I'm working on it.

Open to any suggestions and again..thank you!

  15. I am in Iowa near Sioux city.. I am close to 3 weeks post- op. But not lossing at all. Still same weight as first week post op

I realize it has been awhile since this post but this is my story... 3 weeks post and same weight as 1 week post. Hoping to hear it all came together for you?

  16. Stay off the scale for the first month. When you are on liquids and puréed foods, they kind of "slide" through your sleeve pretty quickly. Believe me, when you get to the solids phase you'll realize just how much restriction you actually have. That's why so many surgeons push the high protein/meat eaters diet postop. Three or four bites of that and you'll feel it! The first month after surgery your body is going through some serious trauma, you have been pumped full of opiates and fluids, and your body is not going to be either to let go of its resources until it knows by its own intelligence that it has regained some stability inside itself. I'm telling you-stay off the scale until you're 30 day check up! Weight-loss really starts to get a lot quicker after that and stays that way for at least 6 to 9 months more. A year from now you're going to be shocked at where you are! In a good way.

I've been hearing that I should stay off the scale a lot for now. So, I officially just packed it up and put in down stairs. There is no doubt that getting on it at this point is doing me no favors. I know that I'm following my diet so I just need to remind myself that I'm still in the recovery stage and the results will come. Thank you for the words of encouragement!

  17. As far as weight loss goes... it really varies per person. I only lost about 10lbs my first three weeks. To say I was disappointed was an understatement... but it kept coming off and kept coming off, 2lbs a week at a time. What WLS does best is NOT to drop a ton of weight in a short amount of time but alllow us to CONTINUE losing weight at a safe, steady pace long past when we would have given up while on a diet. It's pretty hard to mess this up unless youre explicitly trying to.

At this point, it's fine to get in cals and eat every 2-4 hours. You'll need it for strength and brain function, plus it's liquid! That you have no restriction right now means there is little chance you'll dehydrate. You're doing fine... rest assured.

Thank you. I'm waiting for my Dr to release me for exercise. Hoping that will give me a boost!

  18. I too had the same problem as far as the weight loss not happening quicker like I thought it would. Look up other threads about stalls, it's a fact, so many here experienced it, it had me in tears! I'm six months out now and I'm okay with the stalls, the weight loss happens so just give it time. So thankful for all the others who posted their experience, it really helped me get through the more difficult times

It does help to see that others have overcome stalls. I understand they are to be expected but I haven't even got started so it's hard to associate it as a stall! I want it to begin! Keeping positive though and going to keep fighting!

  19. I was sleeved on November 18th and so far it has been smooth sailing....possibly to smooth and that's my concern! I haven't had any issues with throwing up, pain, protien, or intake. During my liquid phase (which ended 2 days ago) I could easily take in 4 oz of broth or Soups, then within an hour (or less) go back for 2-4 more. I can eat a whole Jell-O, yogurt, or pudding, no problem. I don't ever get a full feeling and have tested it a bit with my broths eating up to 6 oz in a setting to see what my limits are.. but still I get nothing. I don't want to be unsafe or sabotage myself so I don't want to push it any further. I don't really crave food like I did pre-op but my biggest problem was/is that I am a marathon eater. In other words Portion Control. So hopefully you can understand why im so concerned. I was really hoping for a nice restriction so that it would be difficult for me to overeat like I have in the past. I'm afraid it isn't working! Since starting soft foods I have had pureed bean Soup ... I ate 4 oz then 30 min later had 2 more. Nothing... but I stopped anyways. I'm getting discouraged! On top of that, the scales aren't moving. So far I have followed my diet faithfully yet I have only lost 6 pounds since my surgery two weeks ago. My sw was 192 (I'm 4' 11"). I don't understand how I haven't lost more with such a reduction in my calorie intake? Please tell me there is still hope. I'm looking for encouragement! Has anyone else experienced something similar and still had success? I keep seeing how so many have done so well and how there restriction has been such a big help and tool to getting where they are.. but what if I don't have that... it is what I needed?
