  1. Kathy - yuppers, you are correct. Turn about's fair play!

Cheri - LOL!!! tripod.. ohh hahahaha!

Jachut - curses on you! that song's stuck in my head now! haha!

I should have known we'd get more frank responses from the men. They are always so proud of their.. assets.

Now.. about that backround check.. and what's your credit score mister??

  2. *pushes her way to the front of the crowd*

Oh boy, let me at this one!

My first time to get out of bed involved two nurses who got me standing, (my god that hurt - I had hernia repair also - open surgery on my stomach) then.. then! they decided they had to do something else real quick, so they sat me on the edge of the bed, drugged and in pain and left me for 20 minutes! Then came back and expected me to walk?? I took one small step and said, "Put me back in bed"

Then.. oh youre not going to believe this one. In the middle of the night, the Gastapo arrived and she was an army of one. "You need to learn how to get up on your own. Here's how you disconnect yourself from the oxygen monitor. Take the IV stand with you.. you MUST PEE! And when you come back and get in bed, here's how you hook yourself to the monitors again" Yeah, right nursie.

And the topper? The nurse who could barely function. Ever seen a slow talking, slow blinking, unstable drunk who couldnt speak clearly or walk without stumbling over themselves? Well she was the shining example. We couldnt decide if she was drunk or what. She quickly informed us that she was a floater nurse and had never taken care of lapband patients before, so she had no idea what to do before my release. She got me up to go to the bathroom and then left me.. didnt come back for three hours! My husband rescued me. But the topper of them all? She brought me my first liquid pain medicine, and after I drank it I mentioned it tasted like cough medicine. So she ran her finger around in the cup and sucked the medicine off her finger!!!

This was only part of my horrid experience there. I wont go into more here because it might make Dr. Cahn look bad and truly, he is wonderul. This was all the hospital and hospital staff that Im complaining about now.

I found out today that the "drunk nurse" was fired. Seems my cup wasnt the only one she was tasting. So yeah, I can sympathize with you 100%.

  3. Dreaming - I too was banded three weeks ago. Jan 9th, and I have lost 17 pounds too! I saw my surgeon for the first follow up meeting today and I complained that I'd only lost two pounds this week. He scolded me and told me that the first six weeks is NOT about losing weight. It's about letting your body heal and the band getting seated nicely. He told me not to even think about weight right now. Just focus on eating as directed, excercising, drinking your Water and getting fully recovered. That sounded great to me, so I've relaxed a LOT.

This is a long and slow journey we are on, with a lot to be done to prepare ourselves mentally, emotionally, and physically for this huge and wonderful change we have decided to make in our lives.

    Cheers!

  4. On the contrary, I have yet to eat all of the calories I'm supposed to in a day. The only thing that was a bummer was getting sick and tired of liquids that first phase. The liquids were surprisingly filling, I guess because there's so much swelling in the stomach it creates its own restriction.

Now that I've moved on to mushies, I can eat more but Im still not hitting the calorie mark! And, when I do get hungry it's usually time to eat, so no problem! :)

  5. The good news is that the inital results from the tests are good, but this means that there are more tests to run.

She also gave me some anti-anxity pills. Apperently being stressed about not losing weight is not going to help me lose weight. Go figure.

Excellent, the first pass was good. Sounds like you have a doctor who cares and is really trying to help you. I'm thrilled to hear the first round of good news. I'm even more thrilled because I just know there's going to be even more before this is all settled.

    *hugs*

  6. Doc - my hopes were not meant to hurt anyone's feelings or wish anyone ill will. I guess I was thinking that the doctors in Mexico use a different method or technique which would explain so many of the erosions from the same doctors down there. Like I said, it was a selfish thought. Basically I was hoping this problem was limited to one or two doctors in Mexico and not a widespread problem. Sorry if it offended anyone. Certainly didnt mean to.

  7. Wow, I was just thinking these very thoughts in the shower. Don't panic, if it happens it happens, do the best you can, and take full advantage of the gift while you have it. Maybe it wont be a forever thing, maybe it will. Whatever the case, make hay while the sun shines baby!

    Thanks so much LaMadam ;)

  8. Youre a virgin? Give yourself a hand! *nudge, nudge, wink, wink* *laughs*

Ok, I'm going to see my surgeon in a short while so I need to resist the temtation to read this thread or all of my incisions will be bleeding when I get there. :Banane23:

And Puddin.. good for you, seriously. You should be proud of yourself. ;)

DeLarla.. puddin *laughs* made me think of you. *winks*

  9. I think we all just want an answer to our dilemma so badly that those things seem minor until they get close to our own doorstep.

That's it. I'm locking my door and refusing to open it anymore. I have been careful about eating soft foods and chewing until that bite of food is hardly worth swallowing. I have been under the calorie limit everyday. But I know I am eating too much at a time. I know when I'm not hungry anymore and yet.. I'm allowed to have that so damnit, it WILL fit in there! Bad bad me. Time to wise up. Thanks for the reality reminder, Leatha. *hugs*

  10. By the way.. my port is on the right side, just under my ribs.. sometimes uncomfortable from my ribs pressing on it (or maybe its the fat between). But I wonder what makes different docotors prefer different locations? I have seen some put low by the hip area. Might be interesting to hear where everyone's is. *grins*

  11. Hi Michelle! First of all, grats on your weight loss and better health! That's awesome!

I was banded three weeks ago and my stomach's just now starting to look like I've just had a kid rather than about to have one! I can still feel the port, sometimes I'm more aware of it after getting in the car or twisting around to do something. I think we are all going to be different in terms of healing times. Well, heck.. in all aspects really!

Walking two miles already! I'm so envious! I can't wait to feel good again!

  12. Oh geeze.. this is going to sound so selfish but it's true. I'm sitting here praying that the response is, "She was banded in Mexico". This is starting to freak me out y'all. My surgeon did tell us in the seminar that they have learned to turn the connecter on the band in a certain way before attaching the stomach around the band to prevent erosion. He also said there is only a 1% risk of erosion now. And by sewing the stomach over the band, slippage is practially unheard of. I hope he's right!

You know what hits me? Of all the questions I did think to ask, I never once thought to ask.. "And what if it does erode or slip? Do you guarantee your work? Will you fix it? Or will it cost me a fortune to save my life when it goes wrong?" Why oh why didn't I think of those questions before now? Ack!!

  13. Hey Robyn, I had a boss who had an RNY after he left a job he had been on for years and years. While on that job he was very fat, but was well liked by everyone. After he lost the weight, he went back to that job and nobody knew who he was. He said that since he's been thin (and yes, he looks old and sickly and has multiple problems because of the RNY) he has seen from the 'other side of the fence' just how mean people are about fat people. Many times he's had people who have no clue that he used to be fat make comments to him about an overweight person they saw. He's not shy about telling them off either. So yeah, I think we are all in for some surprises as we get thin and are accepted into the 'inner circle' of the 'normal people'. Maybe we can make a difference once we are there. Who knows.

Now... about your 71 pounds gone in 6 months... holy cow! Share how youre doing that please? Would love to hear your story.

  14. Aww.. bless your heart. I too went thru the same pre-op diet you are on and surprised myself that I actually did lose 16 pounds in two weeks. They know what they're doing, so eat what youre supposed to and trust that it will work out fine.

I know from experience that the killer of all my attempts to lose weight has been stress from unexpected events or traumas, or just plain being upset. Sounds like youre going thru that very thing. So much is going to change in your life as you get healthy. Your view of yourself and the world around you wont be the same. Perhaps you and your husband could agree to stay together while you go through this and get some weight off of you before you two make any decisions. You will need support and encouragement, and though he might not be able to give that to you at first (due to hurt feelings, defensiveness and anger, etc) you can always come here for that as well as other family members.

Ending a marriage is usually something we regret for years to come. Looking back on two of my failed marriages, I see that I walked away from one tough situation only to have to start all over with someone else, leaving behind all of the invested emotions, efforts, time and love. Unless there is abuse, or other extenuating harmful circumstances, it really does pay off to work together through the tough times and come out stronger and together on the other side.

Be encouraged by all of us who have been in your shoes (with the lapband steps) and know that you can do this too.. For Yourself. No matter how the rest of your situation turns out, it will be nothing but good for you to proceed along your journey of regaining health and self-confidence.

Best of luck to you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

  15. Welcome, welcome, welcome! So many of us have been, or are still in your shoes. Exicted, nervous, wondering if youre doing the right thing while convinced it's going to finally be an answer to prayers.

This really is a great group of people. Here you will find lots of caring support and answers to questions we have all had. I look forward to hearing about your journey.. but.. is there something we can call you besides de98338? *grins*

  17. Just curious here (and a bit concerned about my own future) are any of you who are not losing weight on the scales seeing a change in the way your clothes fit? I noticed many of you stating that you are working out four times a week. Muscle, while it takes up less room in your body, weighs more than fat. Is it possible that you are losing fat, but gaining muscle? In the past, I have seen myself gain weight when I started working out, but my clothes began to fall off of me. A 200 pound fat person looks a lot different than a 200 pound lean and muscular person.

    Just a thought.

  18. Yeah, I figured it would be somewhere between $600 - $1,000.

Anyone else? Anyone have one at home that they really like?

There are so many to choose from. Different motor sizes, different width tracks, different programs.. it's hard to decide and I don't need another place to hang clothes and stack crap! heh
