    Gone for Good Club - May 2006

    1 US gallon = 128 US Fluid ounces. You don't have to drink that much but.. According to this article I found, we should be drinking 64oz PLUS 8 oz for every 25 pounds of excess weight. So, for example, I weigh 244.5. That is about 100 pounds excess for me. So I should drink 64oz PLUS 32 oz more. (100/25=4 8oz x 4=32oz) That's 96 oz per day. So, I constantly have with me a 16.9oz bottle of Water. I would need to drink 6 bottles a day in order to get in my 96 ounces. I can almost always achieve 4 bottles per day, but 6 isn't so easy. I try dividing it up to 3 in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. For those of you who haven't seen this article, have a look.     Gastric bypass patients

    No regrets at all. Even if it takes 2 years to get the weight off, I'm much happier knowing I'm not all pieced together inside and that I'll look healthier for losing the weight at a reasonable speed. It is possible to lose 100 pounds with the band as well, you know. It just takes some self control and effort... and learning how to master those two things will help keep the weight off once it's gone.

    Yup, surgery does cause some pain. I'm a wuss too! hehe Expect to be sore, and expect it to hurt more when you move around, but keep moving and keep sipping your Water. You'll get better with each passing day. OMG, Heather!! You're banded!! Yay!! *hugs*

  5. Exacly why I got my band! I think about these foods on occassion, but I generally figure out that I'm not craving them so much as remembering them. Certain times or events will trigger the memories and I immediately go into habit mode and for an instant I want to go get the foods associated with the memory at the time. However, I stop and remind myself that it's just that old habit rearing its ugly head and then I turn my attention back on enjoying the moment rather than thinking I need a certain food to really enjoy whatever I'm doing. Example: The other night Dawg and I took our 2 1/2 year old grandson to the park. It was a beautiful evening and as we left the park I couldn't stop thinking about how nice it would be to take our grandson to Dairy Queen and get an ice cream cone. This was just part of good summer time memories for me, and being out in the park triggered the memory. We didn't go to DQ that night, but we did enjoy our time together and our grandson's memory won't be centered around food, but rather his time with Papaw and Grandma. It's never too late to change the future. I am so thankful for my band. It has held me in place long enough to think through these things rather than just reaching for that bag of chips or driving through McDonald's out of habit.

    Tomorrow's the day

    Awesome! Another new kid on the block! *grins* Be sure to check in when you can and let us know how things went. We will all be thinking about you and sending up prayers for an easy recovery. When you get home, we will be here waiting to welcome you to bandland! And Jack is absolutely right! TODAY is the day! Make it count!
  7. I've started spending more time with my grandson. We took him to the park the other day and had such a good time with him! I've also been doing a photography workshop on Saturdays. Dawg and I go for drives, spend time on the computer together, watch movies, visit friends, etc. I have found that while I'm doing these other things it's still important to think about food. Why? Because to get caught away from home without good foods is dangerous! I consider where we are going and how long we'll be gone and pack accordingly. Bottles of Water and Starkist tuna lunch packs are almost always in our car. Also, just because I'm feeling so much better now that I'm getting some of this weight off, I have more energy so I enjoy doing things I dreaded before. Today I went walking with LindaV, then came home and cleaned out the car. Ran in to check on LBT and now I'm on my to get the car washed and do a big grocery shop. Everyday becomes more and more full of things to do... and it's just happening naturally!

    Answers to questions about the Spring Challenge: 1. Any workout that is a minimum of 30 minutes per day scores 2 points. You do not earn extra points for doing more than 30 minutes per day. Sorry. 2. I would prefer that everyone keep their score cards here so we can all watch each other progress. Do update your card each day, but do NOT post a new score card each day. Use the edit button to update your original card. It might be helpful to put the page with your card on it in your favorites so you can find it easily. 3. At this point everyone should be keeping ONLY the daily and weekly totals. Grand totals are for the end of the challenge when we add up the weekly totals. I didn't want everyone to have too much daily editing to do and therefore become less apt to do it. 4. Even if you have a "suga thing" please join! Many people have that same struggle and won't be earning the points for that everyday. However, it is possible to skip a day or two here and there and earn some extra points. *nudges Paula* If any of you have more questions, or need help with your cards, please ask! That's why I'm here! I will not be eligible for the reward, but I am going to keep a card and particpiate just for fun and so you all can't say I wimped out! LOL! LindaV has been kicking my butt with the walking. We walked last night AND this moring for about 40 minutes each time. The GFG Club will continue as it has for the past two months as a daily support and weekly weigh-in for those who need it. If you want to join the challenge, super! If the challenge isn't really what floats your boat, no problem. Just cheer on the particpants and continue to contribute to the Club however you want. See you all on the May thread!

    Gone for Good Club - May 2006

    The Gone for Good Club's Spring Challenge How it works: From April 26th through May 31, everyone who participates in the challenge will earn points for various achievements. On May 31st we will all tally up the points we earned during the challenge and the one with the most points wins. Who can join: Any GFG Club Member can join at any time during the challenge. There will be no back dating your points, so if you join on May 1st, you begin to accumulate your points on from that day forward. Keeping track of points: Below is a score card you may copy and paste into a post on this thread. All of your updates will be kept by you on your score card only! This way we don't end up with a 100+ page thread. Simply go back to your Score card and Edit it to update. How to copy and paste the score card: Place your mouse pointer at the beginning of the Gone for Good Club Spring Challenge line on the score card. While holding down the right mouse button, drag the mouse pointer down to the bottom of the score card. You will see the entire card become highlighted. Right click the mouse and select Copy. Then, at the bottom of the this page, click on Post Reply. Point and click inside the edit box that opens and then right click on the mouse and select Paste. You may then enter your points for today. If you wish to veryify that everything looks good, click on the Preview Post button. Once you are satisfied that your card is correct, click on the Submit Reply button. How to edit your score card: Click on the Edit button of your score card. Then click in the middle of the line where you wish to place enter your points. Type in the number and then press the delete button on your keyboard one time. This should keep the formatting. *crosses fingers* Preview your changes to be sure they are correct, and then click on Save Changes. Everyone will be on their honor to keep an honest record of their daily points. How to earn points: Rule 1: For each day that you drink a minimum of 64oz of Water, you earn 1 point. Rule 2: For each day that you exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes (doesn't have to be all at one time), you will earn 2 points. Rule 3: For each day that you do not eat foods that contain flour or sugar, you will earn 3 points. Sugar substitues and small amounts of sugars in healthy pre-packaged foods are allowed. There are healthy foods that do contain small amounts of sugars, such as cottage cheese, whole grain cereals, fruits in light syrup, etc. This is aimed at Cookies, cakes, candies, sweet drinks and granulate sugars added to your foods and drinks. Whole grains in cereals is also permitted. Weightloss: For each pound you lose during the challenge, you will earn 1 point. This will be based on the difference between your weight on April 26th and your final weigh-in weight on May 31st. There are 36 days in the Spring Challenge, so there is a possibility of earning 216 points. However, for those of you who achieve a perfect record in any of the first three categories by earning points every day, you will receive a 5 point bonus for each perfect category at the end of the challenge, making it possible to earn 231 points if all categories earn a bonus. Of course the weight loss will vary so we won't know until the final day (May 31st) who has won! The reward: The winner of the challenge will be awarded the Gone for Good Club's Medal of Honor which can be added to their signature line. (This is a slightly bigger version.) However, all who participate will receive the reward of better health and a lower number on that scale, so I want to see all of you participating! Good luck to everyone and may you all lose!

    Gone for Good Club - April 2006

    I have CRS too! But after looking back through this thread I found the info you wanted. There will be a GFG Club - May 2006 thread starting late tonight after I get the updates in today. Just like when we moved from March to April, I'll put the Members and Honors pages there, and then I will put the sample score card there for everyone to copy. Editing your score card daily will keep us from having to have hundreds of pages in the May thread. Now.. who are you again? *grins*

    Hey there Amanda! Welcome to the greatest community of support I've ever seen. You'll find so many people here that are willing to answer any questions you may have. I've been banded for about 4 months now and am loving it. They will want your thyroid levels to be in check before you get banded, but as long as meds are keeping those corrected you should have no problems. Are you a big sweet eater? Sweet addicts find the band less than helpful because things such as milkshakes, chocolate, pop, etc go right through the band. Those of us who have a hard time controlling quantities or are dough freaks seem to have an easier go of it with the band.
