  1. I too had my surgery Monday, and I just hurt all over from all the pressure. I came home last night around 6:30pm and did nothing but sleep until almost 11am. I am trying to get liquids in but it is so hard.. I have barely gotten half a bottle of Water down and 2 tiny bites of yogurt. I try to walk when I can though. I hope it gets better too. The dry heaves are terrible.

  2. Today I am on day 11 out of 14 of my pre-op liquid diet. I have my surgery on Monday 12/12/16, and I know I am almost there, but today has been a hard day for me.

Overall, I feel I have really done well on this liquid diet. I haven't cheated, I have been following my Doctors recommendations and meeting all my Protein and Water requirements, and after the first few days I haven't really had any cravings either. It has been really surprising to me how much I have been able to really stick with this and trust the process.

The one thing I didn't really think about or prepare myself for was the emotional side of this process during the pre-op diet. I have had some emotional up and downs, but today is just a bad day; I find that I am just really sad and angry today. It started with trying a new Protein Shake flavor for Breakfast on my way to work this morning and it was SO HORRIBLE that it pretty much just ruined me I think. I find myself craving anything and everything; even things I never ate before I started this. My emotions are all over the place and I just find myself wanting to cry.

Did anyone else experience a lot of emotions during the pre-op phase of their journey?

  3. @@redheadjo Safe travels and praying for a quick and speedy recovery! This is a very exciting and terrifying adventure to go on, but knowing its something you are doing to better yourself that you are doing for yourself..... that is an awesome feeling! Enjoy doing this for YOU because ultimately caring for yourself and health first makes you better in all aspects of your life and helps you be able to give more to those around you. You go girl :D

  4. @@Gypsy52 Mine made me stop smoking immediately after my first appointment. That was about 3 months ago, and I have my surgery next Monday! Mine is REALLY REALLY big on making sure all his patients are nicotine free before and after surgery due to the risks it creates and that it makes it so much harder for your body to heal after surgery. I had to do a nicotine test last week, and if I would have failed he would not have done my surgery. He didn't have a specific time frame I had to be smoke-free, but I had to be able to pass my nicotine test prior to surgery and be willing to ensure I don't do it after surgery too.

  5. @@OhHeyMarina Oh ok! Well yes just let them know what you have been doing and see if that is ok! :) It is crazy how different every surgeon and office is with the self pay! I am doing that too but it was required I meet with a Nutritionist as one of my pre-op requirements so that actually has been a blessing for me. At least you are able to still work directly with your Dr. on this until you are able to see one!

  6. @@OhHeyMarina I don't blame you girl! This is definitely not easy. It seems to me you are doing really well with your Protein intake, but I would probably just call over to your nutritionist and ask them about it since every surgeon has the different requirements. I have had to call mine a few times to ask questions in regards to the diet and I am so glad I did! Just keep your eye on the end goal and take it a day at a time :) We are almost there!

  7. @@smyleetn You can do this! My surgery is next Monday and I am getting pretty nervous too, but just remember WHY you are doing this! Remember that this process is about regaining control of your health and life and that you are capable of getting through!

I will be praying for you and try and remember to take deep, calming breaths and remind yourself why this is so important to you and what your hoping to achieve in your end result! Shift your thoughts to the positive aspects and trust that it will all work out to a better, healthier and happier you! :)

  8. @@OhHeyMarina I was only told to make sure I am getting 70-90 grams of Protein. The way I have been doing it is I just have 3 shakes a day (1 for each of my main meals) and then 1 AM snack and 1 PM snack in between each of those meals of either yogurt or SF pudding. Of course I am drinking LOTS of Water all day as well! I have been using the Syntrax nectar Protein line, and my favorite is the chocolate Truffle Protein powder flavor. I LOVE it. I have tried many different brands before, and this is the one my sister found and stuck with after her surgery over a year ago and is also my favorite. I didn't care for the Premier Protein Shakes honestly, at least not for me.

I tried the broth but the kinds I found at my local grocery stores were NOT good on their own... can't do the broth thing. So I am pretty limited on the variety of things I have in my day but overall I don't feel hungry and I am hitting my protein requirements everyday doing that :) I keep track of it on my fitbit account.

  9. @@OhHeyMarina Hey girl, I too have noticed that going through this full liquid diet phase pre-op it is really almost all mental and emotional hunger rather than physical! After about day 4 I found I rarely feel "hungry" and I am much more satisfied with my Protein Shakes, yogurt, and SF pudding. This phase has caused me a lot more emotional ups and downs than anything, but I am really appreciating the process and it helps me better understand my dependence on food in my life for things outside of hunger and nutrition. You are doing amazing! Keep it up!

I am now on day 9 out of 14, it does get better! Just hang in there girl <3

  10. Has anybody's surgeries demanded a zero nic text just 12 days before surgery? I don't know what to do.

    Sorry Surgeon

Yes my doctor requires a nicotine test but he told me up front at my initial appt so I had to quit. It is worth it though to regain our health and there are so many complications that can occur if you smoke before and after surgery since it affects your bodies ability to heal.
