So as some of you know I started at 540 pounds October of 2015. I had surgery May 29, 2016 at 480 pounds and today (March 23, 2017) I am 303.6 pounds. I am mostly happy with my progress but am plagued with lots of extra skin. Even though I am not a year out from my surgery I met with a plastic surgeon for my stomach hang. It bothers me a lot and is pretty painful.

The surgeon gave me 2 options. 1. I could wait until goal or 2. I could get have surgery to remove the hang now and have a revision later. I chose to try and have insurance cover it now and get a revision later because it bothers me so much.

They submitted it to insurance and I got the call that they approved it!! My surgery date is June 5th! I'm very excited but also a bit nervous. The surgeon said mine would be the largest he has ever done and I would need at least 4 drains in for about 4 weeks.

I'm also nervous that by June I might be closer to goal and it might be silly to get it now when I would have to get it again so soon. It's really hard to tell my rate of weight loss though once I get closer to goal.

Overall I am excited and just wanted to share my good news with everyone!

That is so exciting! I can imagine and understand that you are nervous and unsure.. but honestly having your current loose skin removed will help SO much in your day to day life. I would say it's totally worth it to go ahead and do this now and once at goal to do the revision later! Not having the painful loose skin will make it easier for you to exercise and get around which will help you get to goal.. so I say go for it! No matter what you decide or what happens, I know you can do this and it is so awesome how far you have come in your journey so far! Congrats girlie :)

  2. @Jodygirl1982 You are doing awesome!

I was sleeved 12/12/16. I have hit my big stall too.. I have been bouncing between the same 1-3 pounds for the last few weeks and it is sooooo frustrating. I know its part of the process its just hard when the scale just stops moving.... makes me scared I might stop losing anymore even though I know that is just my mind messing with me.

I am only down about 43 pounds since the day of surgery, but down 63 total since I started the pre-op diet 2 weeks before. Just taking it a day at a time and trying to up my Water intake and my exercise!

I took the chewable Calcium citrate from Bariactiv. I didn't like the chalky gritty texture. Now I'm taking Caltrate calcium citrate. Even the 4 petite are so much to take.

Has anyone found a good option for calcium citrate?

Yes I couldn't do the chalky chewables either, but I have been using the Bariatric Advantage soft chews in strawberry, and I love them! They are like starburst chews and the strawberry flavor is amazing. Just 1 idea to try!

  4. Yes, I use the fitbit app to track all my food and the portions are customizable and you are able to add foods that are not already listed on there, or create new entries where you put in the info for meals you make at home and portion sizes. For me its the only way I stay on track and ensure I continue to lose and break stalls as well like others said. It has been working great for me and it REALLY keeps me accountable to physically be able to SEE what I'm doing and not just guess. To each their own, but I definitely recommend it to keep you on track especially in the beginning or if you find yourself getting off track! I have lost 60 pounds in 3 months and feel a lot of it is due to staying accountable, so do what works for you best! :)

Thanks you guys I really appreciate it. I upped my Water and did 75oz today which is a record! :) just had dinner too. I made zucchini and yellow squash noodles, chopped onion and mushrooms cooked in coconut oil, seasoned with garlic salt and topped with avocado. So good! Then hitting up the gym later. Hope to see that scale move by Monday ! Let's think positive thoughts and put it out into the universe emoji179.pngemoji1373.png

You got this girl! :D Keep us updated on how its going!

  6. I have found upping my Water and exercise helps when the scale stops moving for me. But also just ensuring you are tracking everything you eat each day to help you see your macros/calorie intake and adjusting things from there as needed. Overall it sounds like you are doing good, just switch things up a bit and hopefully it will get to moving soon! I had a stall for over 2 weeks here recently, and I was so discouraged since im not quite 3 months out yet, but today I went down 1.5 pounds! You can do this! :)

  7. I didn't even think about asking my surgeon when I could get on birth control pot-op... ooops! He is SUPER hardcore about the whole, "No getting pregnant within 2 years of surgery" that it scared me and after about 6 weeks of healing post-op I went and got the Nexplanon arm implant so I wouldn't have to worry about remembering to take any pills or anything. I guess it is different though with the birth control pills, you want to make sure your stomach is healed enough and can properly break it down to be effective! But if you have ever considered the arm implant BC, I recommend it only because it lasts up to 3 years, and it really wasn't bad getting it put in! I bruised a bit afterwards, but that is normal for me! :) I am liking it so far.

I'm pretty much freaking out today but trying to keep my focus on work to get through it... needed a break so here I am.

I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and paid my fees in advance. I learned how my pain pump will work and how to remove it myself on Sunday (ewwww) and then I can take a shower!! I also found out I'll have at least 2 but up to 6 JP drains when I wake up and how to drain, track the drainage and take care of them (do your bulbs hang low, can you swing 'em too and fro?).

I ordered a Faja compression garment and it got here today, All my Rx are filled and I start my antibiotics tonight. The fridge is full of high Protein triple zero yogurt, Fairlife high Protein milk and I have several flavors of Inspire protein powders all within reach of my Nutri-bullet so I can really dig in and up the protein to help my body heal its self as much as possible.

I'm going to have my wife take some dreaded before pictures of me tonight as well as take some measurements so I have something to look at to make me feel better when I'm in pain over the next few weeks...

I have some comfy pink button down PJs and bunny slippers all ready for my trip to the hospital in the morning (I use humor to deal with anxiety can ya tell?), I'm very lucky to also have a friend that is an ICU nurse and she is going to stay at the hospital with me tomorrow night since my wife will need to be home with our 5 year old.

    So I think I'm ready.

    Bring on the list:

    • Lower Transverse Body Lift
    • Full Extensive Abdominoplasty
    • Standard Scar Revision (my gastric was in 2002 OPEN RNY so my scar is pretty ugly)
    • liposuction (if needed)

When you are able too, please update us on how you are doing! Thinking about you and hoping it all went well!

  9. I did the Patches for the first month after surgery. The only complaint I have is that they didn't seem to stay on throughout the day like they should... like the adhesive wasn't strong enough so they would roll up by the end of the day. Not sure how much I got out of them, so I went ahead and switched to the Vitamin chews for now until I am a little further out. Anyone have tips or suggestions on why they wouldn't stay on?? The directions said to put on parts of your body with little to no hair, so I would wear on my shoulders.

@kayshabear Thats great! It can be hard to find the time sometimes! I couldn't exercise right after surgery due to complications so I feel like I am behind! I am loving the gym though!

Yes! I just started the last couple of weeks making it a regular thing, but its so hard for me to get motivated to go by myself! My sister usually goes with me since my husband works nights and I work days so we never see each other much. But this week my sister is out of town so I am accountable for myself and I have dropped the ball haha. Going to make myself go tonight because I know how important it is! I want to lose at least 14 more pounds by my anniversary trip in April so I gotta kick my butt in gear!

I am 8 months out and I go to the YMCA about 3-4 times a week. I do 30-45 minutes of cardio walking around 1.6-2 miles. I also do weight machines every time I go. One day I will do my upper body then the next time I will do my lower body. I switch off each time.

That is what I have been doing! I am just a little past 2 months out and do this same type of exercise each week. This week I have dropped the ball and only gone once so far, but I am going tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday so I can get it all in! :P

  12. As far as photos go, I wanted to add a "before" picture to my profile like I have seen on other peoples, but when I go into the My Surgery section and go to photos, it only lets me upload photos to an album I can create.... not to the actual profile page section for the "before" photo. Can you please advise how I go about fixing this? I feel like I have looked in all the other settings and profile stuff but that is the only place I have found to add a photo but it wont let me add it to the profile page "before" section :(

That is good! The one thing I learned is to just always be honest and let them know when something is going on that isn't normal or seems off or is keeping you from meeting your daily nutrition goals. It can be rough in the beginning but just take it a day at a time and before you know it you will find your new "normal". I genuinely thought I would never eat again because I had a huge food aversion issue/nausea when I first started trying to eat again... but I went to the doctor a week or two later and found out I had a bad UTI, so got some antibiotics and all the nausea and dislike of food went away and I was able to start following my plan again (crazy huh?!). Probably about week 6 post-op is when I really started feeling good about things and was on full foods and able to get most of what I needed in. You got this just hang in there!

  14. My doctor prescribed me heartburn meds, and from what I have read here and elsewhere heartburn is very common after surgery! So if you need to you might talk to your surgeon so that wont bug ya anymore :) But yes smart Water is great, the Powerade Zero's are good, even just crystal light flavored water. Hang in there and just do your best to make a conscious effort to drink slowly throughout the day and you will do just fine! Congrats!

  15. So I am now in the puree stage of my post-op eating regimen, but I am finding it incredibly difficult to eat anything. Now let me clarify that by saying the actual act of eating and keeping food down isn't what is hard... food still smells good and tastes good when I eat, but I just literally feel so grossed out while I am eating. I have been following my surgeons recommendations of not drinking 30 min before and after my meals, and I am taking tiny bites and making sure to spread it out over a good 20 minutes... but I just hate feeling like I am having to force myself to eat rather than enjoying that I get to eat. I am definitely not over eating my any means either and I never feel like I am satisfied after eating, but definitely too grossed out to eat a little more. I know it isn't too uncommon, but for any of ya'll who have experienced this or are feeling it now, how are you dealing? Will it get better soon? I'm just miserable and trying to get in all of the stuff my surgeon tells me too but it is feeling overwhelming and impossible.

  16. Mine has always been mild, nothing crazy and most of it was due to how I ate which was so horrible and obviously led to all my weight gain. I didn't really have to take medicine before surgery except for the rare occasion my food sat horrible with me. This is a new kind of burn though. My surgeon knew all about this and knew all other factors about my health and agreed the sleeve would be a good choice. So I don't feel in confident about my choice of surgery, just wasn't sure how common it was to have acid attacks in the middle of the night. I didn't think about the lying flat so I will try sleeping elevated tonight, thank you!

  17. Hey y'all! I have had a hard time the last few nights with waking up to what feels like a MASSIVE stomach acid attack in my throat lol. I have had GERD/heartburn most of my life, and I take my medicine daily like I should. I just think it's weird it didn't start until the last 2 or 3 nights and it always only happens once but it's so severe it wakes me up. Anyone experience this?
