    Surgery 7/6/2017

I'm 5'1 and 1/2" I am 41, I started this journey at 290, but my high weight was 314. My weight the day of surgery was 260. Our stats are so close...lol. 8 months out, I'm at 201. I workout for an hour a day 5 days a week. I've been parasailing, zip lining, I can't STOP myself from buying clothes. I have limitless energy. Believe me. The decision to have surgery isn't the drastic one, the decision to keep going the way that I was for so many years...that was the drastic one. Good Luck.

    Transdermal Vitamin Patches

I used them exclusively for a while despite the fact that my nutritionist is dead set against them. I never had any problems or blood work come back with issues while I was on them. I stopped using them only because I could never remember to order them on time.

    Surgery 7/6/2017

I was apprehensive all the way up until I was wheeled back. 8 months later, I laugh at it! My post surgery life has been such an amazing experience that I just can't wait to see what is next!

    Is this really true???

I haven't experienced a difference with the sleeve. Regardless, if I'm out...I use Poo-pourri or V.I.Poo and it doesn't matter anyway.

    Surgery Day

Congrats! I understand apprehension, but in a couple of weeks, your world will be completely different if you let it!

  10. Today is my 8 month Surgiversary!!!  I'm down 90lbs from starting weight, down 113lbs from my high weight!  I'm so close to Onderland I can taste it! (It's low carb, so I'm sure it's fine.)

I celebrated by starting off the day with an hour at the gym.  Did 30 minutes on the treadmill completing Week 3 Day 3 of the C25K and then did the 30 minute express workout at Planet Fitness!

    Thick Blood

I'm 8 months post surgery and I'm going to see my surgeon for my 6 month follow up on Tuesday. I'm past due because my husband had a stroke which left me with little time to follow up. Everything has been going well, but I went to the lab at the hospital yesterday for post operative blood work. I have never been a difficult stick, but they seemed to have difficulty finding a vein. When they did find one, the blood was thick and dark and hemolyzed before they could fill the vial rendering the sample useless. They called a supervisor who brought an ultra-sound machine in to find a vein. They indicated that my veins were very small and continued to look. They found a usable one in my right arm. Supervisor stuck me and...nothing. Thick, dark blood that barely came out. After securing my sample, she advised that it would be easier the next time if I drank plenty of fluids before I came in. I explained to her that I am a bariatric surgery patient and that I drink at minimum 64oz per day and that I have recently been trying to increase it and have been successful at getting in 80oz, every day this week. She then suggested that I eat more vegetables. I see the Dr on Tuesday, so I will discuss this with him, but I can't help being paranoid about the thickness of my blood. My resting heart rate is 55-57, I have normal blood pressure. I'm at 1000 cal per day with 60-70g protein. Anybody with a similar experience that maybe able to shed some insight?

    NO Carbonated beverages- FOREVER!

Thank God! I was looking for the voice of reason. I don't know why some surgeons keep perpetrating this myth. Scare tactic?
  13. Yesterday was my 6 month post op appointment, even though I'm 8 months out on the 26th.  Thinks have been delayed for me since my husband's stroke at the end of February and resulting heart surgery mid- May.  He is still really proud of me. 89 pound down.

Joined Planet Fitness last night.  Spent an hour there last night on the treadmill, doing the 12 minute ab circuit, and working on arms and shoulders.  Went back again this morning to complete Week 3 Day 1 of C25K and do the ab circuit this morning.  Early morning is going to be my jam.  It's close to work, so it should be easy to keep up with regardless.

You have done great to lose 89 pounds!!!!

    Thick Blood

@Jess55I appreciate that, but I can't understand any way in the universe that I could be dehydrated. I am the most compliant with all requirements. Can you be dehydrated while getting the recommended or more than the recommended amount of fluid?

    restaurants?

I plan what I will eat and order things that will keep and once I get home, I separate/weigh/portion them into small contaners for other meals. I have a 10 year old with a small appetite, so if we can agree, we share and I skip the leftovers

    MGB & Alcohol

Every person and every surgeon's plan is different. My Dr says you can drink in moderation after 3-6 months. I wasn't a drinker pre surgery so it hasn't been an issue for me post surgery either. Almost 8 months out and I have had zero alcohol. I think about a glass of wine here and there, but it's just not worth the calories to me.
  17. 3 days without stepping on the scale is really messing with my head.  3 more days to go!  Onederland is coming, but it needs to speed up just a tad...lol

That's a great idea. I'm a (former) twice a day weigher, so it's a hard habit to break, but 4 days gone. 1 more left...lol

How do you reach your fluid and protein goal?

I drink a 16-20 oz bottle of flavored water or vitamin water zero during my 1 hour commute to work, 20oz of decaf hot tea before 11 am, another 16-20 oz bottle of flavored water before I leave to go home, and then again on the way home. I'm currently trying to up my fluid intake to at least 80oz per day. With protein, at first it was a mixture of shakes along with high protein foods like cottage cheese, but at 7/8 months out I am finding that I have no problems at all as long as I follow the rules and eat protein first. Chicken, Turkey, Ground Turkey, Fish. Doesn't leave a lot of room for other things, but it gets the job done. Good Luck
  19. - What (physical and/ or non-physical) changes are you mostly looking forward to? Crazy, but I wanted to see what I look like underneath all the weight. I wanted to feel capable. - What are your non-weight (#) related goals? I'm not sure if I understand this question correctly. Al of my goals were weight related. They may not be correlated to a specific number, but they were all directly affected by my weight. Like riding roller coasters. Flying without a belt extender. Buying clothing in regular stores. - Have you met those non-weight goals? I have met all of my post surgery goals thus far with the exception of Horseback Riding and that is only because I haven't had the opportunity. Everything I have is directly weight related now, like reaching my goal weight. Renewing my vows in a beautiful dress. I also would like to get a new job. I think it was very difficult for me to be taken seriously at a higher weight.
  20. Good Luck! Best decision I ever made!
  21. So...I'm 7 months post surgery and 84lbs down. I still have another 66lbs to go to my personal goal weight. I have lots of loose skin, but my biggest issues at this point are with my breasts. They are flat and hanging. They are irritated by perspiration and despite trying my darndest to keep them clean and dry, they are becoming a real problem. I will need a lot of plastic surgery at some point, but right now, I just need to take care of this problem with a lift and implants. Plastic surgeons are refusing to even give me a consultation because I am not weight stable for a year. I am so aggravated. Any thoughts? Will I have to seriously deal with this for over a year? I totally get that they would not want to do a panniculectomy, tummy tuck, thigh lift, or brachioplasty right now. That would be a mistake, as I still have plenty to lose. Any thoughts, words of encouragement?

    Dear scale,

I declared a moratorium on the scale on Sunday! I've been on it everyday since. And twice on Monday. This morning I gave up and said "I can't quit you." and my scale laughed and showed me no intention to change.
  23. Start with committing yourself to small changes or if you have the willpower...drastic ones. I started my journey pre-seminar with seeing if I could handle a liquid diet for 2 weeks. I figured if I couldn't do it before the surgery was even a possibility than how could I do it later. Once I got that under my belt, I started a modified keto plan, which I actually enjoyed. I also started behavior modification regarding physical activity right away. I just started walking a little and kept building on where I started. By the time I had surgery (I had a 6 month pre-op program) I was walking 5ks. I did my first walk post surgery at 6 weeks. Today, I am 7 months post op and training to RUN a 15k. All things that I couldn't have done had I waited. Good Luck!
  24. Thanks, I have great bras, but the problem is on the outer side where my skin gathers and "crepes". I run, so perspiration gathers there and creates an issue. I'm practically rolled and folded into this bra...lol
