  1. I think we all felt like this at some point, but I'd agree that the expectation may be a little unrealistic. Not judging at all, like I said, it's a place we've all been. I'm just over a year out and 108lbs down. Which is amazing, but I don't ever lose as fast as I think I should. I probably lose about 5lbs a month now which is slow, but every inch contributes to a mile. Keep your head up. It all works out in the end if you are working toward success.

Learning to run after bariatric surgery.

My inseam is 24 in long. 7mph is a dream. For someone with short legs, 4mph is absolutely running.

Awesome! I also signed up for a "turkey trot". I'm excited. I do 5k's quite frequently, but I've NEVER run one. This will be my first.

How do you calculate ideal weight?

I'm a trust your body kinda gal. I'm 5'1" and the weight charts show my ideal as 110. I work out 6 days a week, a lot of the thin girl that work out with me that are around my height are 130-160 and look amazing. Body composition will have a HUGE bearing on what your actual ideal weight will be,

Learning to run after bariatric surgery.

Great info. I started C25K approx. 4 months ago and petered out on it because I was trying to run faster than my 5'2" frame would carry me given the timeframe and the 30 minute 5k goal. I stopped the program, slowed myself down and started alternating sprint intervals with long runs. Once I slowed down, I could easily run for an hour at a time. Now I'm up to a 4mph long run pace and I can do 1 mile sprints in 13 minutes 16 seconds and getting faster everyday. I run 6 days a week in that alternating pattern which was suggested by my nutritionist. 1 hour runs on long days and 15 minute runs followed by 30 minutes of circuit training and concluding with another 15 minute run. On circuit days I do the first 15 minute in sprints and the second one, I just keep my butt moving for 15 minutes, time be damned. I have seen very little change in the amount of weight I lose, but the cardiac benefits are already showing. My average resting heart rate is 53 and is considered very good for my age. My lung capacity has improved exponentially and in general I feel unstoppable.

    This May be crazy, but...

I really don't see it as a punishment. It's a never forget moment. Its not about jump starting, even though it would be great if it did, it's about never forgetting the sacrifice. I feel like my life now is normal. I don't feel tortured by it either. It's definitely celebratory, I've had great success, I just don't ever want to be so far away from the struggle that I don't appreciate how the journey started. It's also self imposed, so if something isn't right or doesn't feel right, then pass the chicken. I'm not about to hurt myself over some idea.

    Weight loss stall during PMS/period

I experience the same thing. If I had a dollar for every time I thought that maybe there was something wrong with me preventing me from losing more weight... Hang in there.

    Stalls are such jerks!

OK...I too have experienced this stall after doing something similar at the gym. My nutrionist suggested alternating weight training and it worked. Example: I "gym" 6 days a week Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 1 hour cardio. I run, but you could elliptical or whatever Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday - 15 min cardio - 30 minute circuit (include arms, legs, abs) - 15 minute cardio I thought he was crazy, but then I lost 16lbs in two months, so I'm full on listening at this point...lol
  13. I am 11 months post op and I am down 105lbs. Starting was 290 and I am 5'2" Eating was sometimes difficult before. I mostly eat meats and vegetables. How much I eat depends on the density and the volume of the food, but approx. 1c of food per meal. I felt normal about 4 months post op when I no longer had to think about what food phase I was in. I do have A LOT of excess skin. I plan to have plastics, but most plastic surgeons require you to be weight stable for 6 months prior to surgery and I still have approx. 35lbs left to lose before I hit maintenance. I would do it all again in a heartbeat. It was totally worth it. I went from a person who huffed and puffed getting from the front door to the car to a person who routinely RUNS for an hour at a time. I went from a person who exists...to a person who lives.

    Anyone Watching This Is Us?

Anyone NOT watching This is Us is more like it. It's my favorite. I can definitely sometimes identify with Kate, but then at other times, I'm like come on. Really good show though.
  15. It kills me, but I did not like this movie. I paid to see this movie at the theater, I felt so ripped off that I snuck in to see the Mothman Prophecies. I saw two movies for the price of one and I still think I overpaid...lol
  16. Anybody seen Frailty? That movie is so jacked up, but I will watch it every time.
  17. I haven't seen it, but I would like to...sounds interesting.
  18. @FluffyChix He is a character study for sure. I don't want to give anything away...watch it and come back to me.
  19. It's my 11 month surgiversary!  I'm down 105lbs and I have 45lbs left to go.  My surgeon and I agreed on 150 as my stopping point today.  I was so excited to be one of his sleeve patients who have lost over 100lbs. I guess we are few and far between in his office.  Never looking back!

    Exercising post op

There is a bariatric surgeon online that warns about intense exercise within the first 6 months citing that your body can't possibly take in enough calories to support that kind of activity, I was cleared for walking at a month and basically nothing more until about the 6 month. I wasn't expressly told no, but my surgeon didn't even ask or suggest more intense workouts until that point. Currently, I am almost 11 months out and I work out 6 days a week. My nutritionist has me alternate running for an hour one day, then running 15 minutes, 30 minutes of circuit/weight training, followed by running 15 minutes on the other. He warned me against straight weight training while in the weight loss phase and urged me not to confuse my body with intentionally building muscle. He advised that weight training is likely the reason for long stalls previously.

    Non supportive support system

This is a huge step. It isn't dumb...it's a different kind of support from people who know first hand and you are welcome to it any time.
