  1. I didnt lose too much before but have lost 8 lbs in 9 days so far since surgery. I've read that once you see the results you are highly motivated, I can see that may be true. My jeans fit better and my face looks better. My suggestion is to find someone you can buddy up with. I have a coworker who also had surgery 6 months ago and I feel if she can do it I can too. We will definitely be helping each other stay on track. Good luck on your journey!

Thank you. Do you feel hungry?

Congrats on the lbs you dropped !

  2. I texted back that I never thought it would be easy and asked her where she got that impression since we haven't seen each other in 7 weeks and in the 8 years we have been friends have never discussed WLS.

She has gained a great deal of weight in the past few years and though she makes a point of choosing rich foods and always has a coffee drink and desert when we go out she is very touchy about her weight. A woman at my OA meetings says she thinks my friend is sad about losing her "eating buddy"

I think it's more jealousy and a true friend would not disappear during the time you need a friend the most. I'm sure you wouldn't

  3. For some reason I can't see the text when I start a new thread.

So had to come back with a second post to have my rant.

The message above is from someone I would have called a close friend a month ago. We meet for Breakfast every 2nd Sunday. I mentioned that I had had WLS in a text on Saturday evening and she cancelled our plans about 15minutes before I would have left the house. No big thing as I was 5 days post op.

This is my neediest friend, she calls or texts at least twice a day, so I was surprised when I didn't hear from her for a few days. I calleher and invited her to do a few things she declined each time, then 2 weeks ago I woke up with one side of my face paralyzed due to limes disease and spent 12 days in the hospital with complications. I did not hear from her once.

Last night she sent this text:

"Hi, how are you doing? Are you settling into your new lifestyle?"

Other than letting her know I have had the surgery (she was one of the two people told) I have never talked with her about it at all. I responded (briefly) explanation of the whole medical mess (paralysis, high dose steroids, crazy high blood sugar, insulin, antiviral, transgeminal nerve pain)in response she sent this text:

"Dang! Sorry you are having such a hard time with your new lifestyle...You know nothing is as easy as they said it would be."

    Wow.

She's obviously being condescending...not cool at all

  4. Totally fair! I have friends who are very private too! (I kind of envy them. :)

I kinda envy anyone who can be open about the surgery as for me I have to keep mine a total secret because of negativity or jealousy. I literally don't have anyone I can lean on for support. My mother hung up on me when I told her I was thinking about it.

  5. I am Scheduled for surgery on December 12 and have been on the pre op diet for two days now. Im just curious to know what everyones pre op diet was? My doctor gave me a list that said 3 Protein shakes a day, ans then all of the fruit juice i can drink as long as no sugar added, all the broth i want, sugar free applesauce, pudding, and Jello, and low fat cottage cheese and greek yogurt. I just want to know if that sounds like a normal pre op diet to anyone because i thought it would be just liquids and no fruitjuice. thank you

I'm also scheduled on the 12th. I'm on my liquid diet and I'm starving

I'm nearly four years out from lapband surgery. If you look at my profile, you will see that I lost around 135 lbs. I've been in maintenance for about 2 1/2 years and until recently, stayed within 5 lbs. of my ideal weight. I am struggling now because I'm in a new relationship and enjoying eating out and all the other fun stuff that comes with romance. I plan on stopping the madness because some of my clothes no longer fit and I will not start that nonsense again...having clothing in several sizes because my weight yo-yo's. Fortunately, my band will help me to get my weight back to where it needs to be. I just have to be more vigilant. It's true with WLS as it's true with any 'lifestyle' change. Losing the weight is easy. Keeping it off is hard.

Wow congratulations on the weight loss! I totally understand where your coming from except this will be my first time going for surgery. The yo-yo thing is the worst constantly battling with clothes / sizes. Starting all over again for the hundredth time. I have been in the best shape before and now I'm at the worst.

  7. Absolutely, most of us were on a diet before surgery. Depending on what you are allowed to eat, lean Protein and veggies are the key to filling up. drinks lots of Water helps too. Stick with it, you're worth it.

Thank you! I'm trying my hardest I drink Protein shakes eat noting but lean Protein Drink lots of Water but I'm still hungry I really hope this surgery will change that
