  1. Thanks so much girl. Which hospital did you go to if you don’t mind me asking. I’ll be going to Yale. I’m excited to start this new life but still very nervous. For your approval does the surgeons office call you with the approval? And did you get your surgery date over

The phone as well or were you at an office visit?

So sorry for the late response.. I did mine at

Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford with Dr. John Pirrello. Excellent doctor!

Yes they will call you as soon as you get approved and will provide you with a surgery date. They will give u all the info you will need for the night before and day of surgery.

The liquid diet will be one week to a week 1/2 before your surgery. Hope this helps! Good luck with everything!

  2. Hi! Im from CT and I am 3 months post op as of Jan 3.. I had my surgery October 3rd. My start weight before surgery was 283 lbs nd it took at least 3 weeks after my last appointment with my surgeon to get approved and get a surgery date.
That week I got approved I had to do the cleansing diet for a week 1/2.. It was tough in the beginning, not eating at all just liquids, but after the 4th-5th day it got easier. The preop diet, i was giving a list of what was allowed. Alot of chicken broth, and beef broth, I did the sugar free Jello, crystal lite, Soups that have less than 10grams of carbs. Day of surgery I weighed 266 lbs. today I am at 230 lbs. hope that helps! Good luck with everything!

  3. Everything will be ok.. try to walk as much as permitted after surgery.. it will be a bit painful, but will help with gases and pain will go away faster... best of luck in your journey and keep us posted with your progress...

Awww thank u so much! I will keep that in mind and i will thank u hun

  4. My headaches stopped about day 5, I'm on day 16 of the pre op diet, it's intense. I'm not sure if you all are on the same diet I'm on.
I'm not allowed to have protein/meal replacement shakes until post surgery during the liquid diet.< br> The biggest thing that I've had to get used to is meal prepping. I meal prep like 4 chicken breast that I cut into strips every Sunday and portion them out for the 9oz of Protein I'm allowed a day, it's obnoxious but I've already lost the 5% of my body weight so I would say it's working.
You too will get passed the headaches!

Omg you poor thing that is intense! I am allowed to eat sugar free foods like Jello, pudding, etc and of course the broths, Protein Shakes which i drink twice a day, decaff coffee with skim milk, 1 cup serving of non starchy veggies like, broccoli, carrots, etc. for 7-14 days.. my biggest thing too was the meal prep! I always relied on fast foods or anything made, easy fix, but now thats all I do lol.
So far the headaches have gotten better! Wishing you the best!

  5. For my first two nights, I had a couple of unexpected middle-of-the-night trips to the toilet to urinate. And I probably took longer to get back to sleep.< br> That was probably major extra Water loss in losing a few pounds quickly and processing three Protein Shakes and extra drinking water. It might have also been the adjustment to the higher-protein/lower-carbohydrate regimen.
I'm now at day 14 and the 10 of the 11 nights since the first two have been superb. 7:35 to 9:15 sleep according to my Vivofit and 45% to 55% of that in the deep sleep zone. The only night that was different was after my day at the day surgery centre where I slept or was under anaesthetic for nearly five hours between 11am and 7pm.
You may improve after another night or two. Do you wear a fitness band that measures your sleep and movement?

No i dont but last night was the first night i actually had a good sleep.. so hopefully tonight i will too! Crossing fingers🤞🏽🤞🏽
Going on day 5 in liquid diet
5 more days till surgery day!

  6. Carb withdrawal. ((hugs)) Drink lots of Water. Maybe take a calcium/magnesium supplement before sleep and that might help you relax. At least that's what I do...

Thank you!! My friend also said caffeine withdrawals, quite frankly I believe my body is having all types of withdrawals lol! Thank you so much! I will try every tip given to me

  7. Oh my! my headaches disappeared by morning of day 4. I hope you are feeling better. I take 5 mg of melatonin about 30 minutes before bed. But you have to be laid down in the 30 minutes, or it kind of wears off, IMHO.
I have 8 days to go

Thank you for that! Yes they are BAD! I will try that thanks a million! We got this!

  8. Yes I realize that, and I don't commonly drink it everyday anyway. I'm more of a unsweetened tea girl, or a slice of lemon or grapefruit peel in Water (which is a no-no for pre-op). My pre-op diet is just proving challenging and fizzy water helps my hunger/nausea and always has. I'm sure I wont miss it after surgery since I'm guessing it would hurt if I tried. Thanks though.

Hi! I had the same question about carbonation drinks.. I would always drink plain seltzer water because it would help when I felt sick and helped with my cravings when i was on the 6 month supervised diet with my nutritionist. I never asked my doctor if I can drink some through my pre-op diet. So just as long as there is no sugar/ caffeine its okay?

  9. I dont know if anyone has experienced what I have been experiencing restless nights?? For the past few days since I started the liver shrinking diet, I have been having the hardest time falling asleep!

My headaches are bad as well OMG! I keep reminding myself that I can do this!

    Surgery date: OCT. 3

  10. We are all different and I keep telling myself that. My doctor started me on the liquid diet 5 weeks ago. My surgery date is 10/2. I will admit that I have cheated a few times in the last month but it has been pretty easy, once I got past the first 4 days. Now I've been on the pre-op liquid diet for a week without cheating at all. Just 9 more days to do. I've got this! It will all be worth it in the end. But man oh man, I am tired of Jello, broth and Protein Shakes.

Lol!! Omg I am too and I am not even half way through! I have 7 more days to go

  11. I am on the liquid diet. The first two days were HARD. I had a terrible headache that just would not go away and of course can't take any NSAIDs this week to help fight it. My doc has us on a shake for Breakfast, shake for lunch and then a low calorie, low fat, no carb high Protein meal for dinner. Pretty much I eat 2 scrambled eggs for dinner. The only good part is the pounds are just dropping off left and right this week. Surgery Monday. I keep telling myself this is all worth it

I am on day 2 and I am having the headaches and getting hungry! Surgery date is Oct 3

  12. You should talk to a registered dietician before starting a liquid diet. Since you're looking at a year out I'd focus on eating healthier instead of a liquid diet. I've been on mine for about a week and it's barely tolerable, there's no way I could maintain that for a year.

You're absolutely right... Its really hard for the 7-14 days we are supposed to do it, it would be impossible for you to start it now, right now you have to focus on eating healthy, changing old bad habits and creating good ones. Your dietician will help you through it. I am on my 2nd day of the pre-op diet and I am working hard to stay focused. Good luck to you...
