    Surgery 11/30

Hello I'm sorry that you had to deal with nurses that were rude and inattentive. I had my sleeve surgery on 11/14 and spent one night in the hospital. I had one nurse that was really great... she was my night nurse. Then the nurse that came on at 7 in the morning was awful. After they stopped my pump med, and I was successfully sipping on Water, broth, juice, my nurse didn't give me any liquid pain med for a few hours. I was REALLY hurting and I needed something. She said she would come in, but she didn't. My husband and I went looking for her, and saw her sitting outside. She then told me she would be in soon, but I waited another hour and a half. So I am sure that a lot of people can relate to you in that area. Just be glad you are home. I only told my immediate family about my sleeve surgery. I didn't want others knowing, I guess I didn't want them to judge me either... so I can identify with you on that one. Also, I was given hydrocodone in liquid form for my pain med. And I was given these little anti-nausea pills, which I took for about 3 days. My nausea only lasted 3 days, so I didn't need the pills after that. The pain med didn't make me nauseated. And I also take other meds at bedtime, so I had to cut them in half and take them with water before bed. I had no problems with nausea while taking those. So I would say give it a couple more days and hopefully the nausea will pass for you. Hopefully some others will comment and tell you how their experience was. Good luck and take good care

    How many calories a day?

Hi I too, am on the pureed stage. I have 6 small meals a day, which include 2 meals consisting of 4 oz. of a Protein shake. I have been keeping track of my calories/fat/protein each day, and I am always just below 500 calories a day. I guess that is okay? I read something where someone had said that you needed to get more calories than that, or it would kill your metabolism. I will say, that I have not lost any weight in about 5 days, but I have lost 17 pounds since my surgery on November 14th. I find that I just CANNOT eat more than what I am eating. I fill up very quickly, and if less than 500 calories is all I can do right now, then so be it. I'm glad you asked this question, I think it will be interesting to see what kind of feedback you get. Good luck!

    puree stage

I had my surgery on 11-14. I am also in the pureed stage. I mashed my tuna up with a fork and then just chewed each bite 20 times like they told us to. Works fine. Just found out that I hate canned tuna though, so won't be eating that again. Next stop, I will be trying canned chicken... hope it's better than the tuna! Other things I have tried so far on the pureed: Egg Beaters- mashed up and chewed well... not bad Cottage cheese... not bad and my favorite.... fat free refried Beans with a teaspoon of light sour cream. Good luck!

    Decaffeinated coffee

Hi I had my surgery on November the 14th. I started drinking decaffeinated coffee about 5 days ago. I have around 2 big cups a day and I love it. I also drink decaf cold unsweet tea.
  5. Hello, Had my post op 2 week follow up today. Woke up in severe pain this morning and was so glad that I already had the follow up appointment scheduled for today. Only one incision is bothering me... still quite a bit of bruising there. But the severe pain I am having is on my left front side (away from the incisions). It is a sharp, sore, shooting pain that only goes away a little when I lay down. Today, I found out what it is. The doctor said it is a hematoma (I had to look it up when I got home). He said it can cause quite a bit of pain, but that it will go away. I was just wondering, has anyone else out there had this problem and how long did it take for it to go away ( I know everyone is different, just curious). Thanks,
  6. Wow. I haven't felt anything like that. It sure is interesting to hear other people's experiences on here. Glad your pain quickly went away for you. And thank you, I hope mine goes away soon.

    Stopped losing weight.

Hello Yes, I am experiencing the same thing. My surgery was 11-14 and I have lost 15 pounds. The past few days, I haven't lost much of anything whereas before, I was losing 1-2 lbs. a day. Glad to know that this is normal, and I will try to stay off the scales for a couple of days. Good luck to you

First two days of pre-op was rough

Hi I agree, the first 2 days (3 days for me) were rough and I had migraines too (or at least it felt like it) because of coming off of all the caffeine (coffee and unsweet tea). But be encouraged, it gets easier. After I got rid of the headaches, I found that the pre-op diet itself was easy. And I lost quite a bit of weight on it too, so that was nice. Good luck and hang in there! I just had my sleeve surgery last Monday. Feeling good now. -Shelley
  10. Hello, I had my surgery on Monday (11-14) at noon. I was sent home on Tuesday afternoon. I did not pass my scan to check for stomach leaks, due only to the fact that the stuff they gave me to drink never made it down to my stomach, it got stuck in my esophagus which was very swollen. So after the scan, they went ahead and started me on liquids, to see if I could tolerate them. I had no nausea or sickness while drinking the liquids. So they sent me home. I noticed that I had a lot of pain at 1 of the 4 incision sites, which is one that is located above my belly button (and right on top of an incisional hernia that hasn't been repaired yet). Also, I had pain on my left side, which was nowhere near any of the incisions. Over the past few days, I have noticed that the 1 incision area is barely hurting anymore, but my left side hurts all the time. I am unable to get myself out of bed without my husband's help. It hurts the worst when I am sitting up or walking, though the pain never does go away completely. Other things that make the pain excruciating are laughing, coughing and sneezing. Just was wondering if this was normal for any of you other sleevers out there and what your experiences or thoughts were on this matter. Thank you, :)Shelley
  11. Thank you everyone for your replies. I will see how I feel after sleeping tonight and call my doctor tomorrow if I need to.

    Omg surgery tomorrow

Hi I agree... keep yourself busy, get things ready. That is what I have been doing. Just woke up and have a few things left to do this morning. Then my husband and I will head over to the hospital... my surgery is at noon today! I am a little nervous, but mostly it's an excited kind of nervous. I am definitely looking forward to the GOOD change that this is going to bring into my life. You will do great! Hang in there and best wishes to you. Hugs, Shelley
  13. Hello to all Tomorrow is my surgery day too! (At noon). I am really looking forward to this! Best wishes and a speedy recovery to everyone -Shelley
  14. Hello, Yes, I am having my sleeve surgery on Monday (Nov 14th). I have been sticking to the pre-op diet, taking my Vitamins, drinking my Protein shakes daily. I didn't find that the diet was difficult at all. Shakes: Premier Protein shake which has about 22g of protein per 8oz. serving. Have them in vanilla and chocolate. Not bad at all, but before I run out, I might order a different brand. Also ordered some unjury protein powder and tried it in place of one of the shakes. Mixed it in 8 oz. of chicken broth. It was real good. Just found this place and I think it is so cool.... and had fun going through the store.... can't wait to try a few items I saw there. 2 more days! Woohoo! Not feeling nervous at all... just excited. I am so ready for this! I wish all of you November sleeve patients the best! Stay positive. -Shelley
