  1. The unflavored protein powder is fantastic. You can add it to broth, Soups, yogurt and so many other things. You can also add it to your drinks... Powerade Zero, Crystal Light, etc. I had some in my decaf iced tea today and in my decaf coffee. I encourage you to get the protein powder especially if you aren't able to do the protein shakes. Lots of protein powders out there. I use unjury and I like it a lot.

    8 days post vsg!

Glad you are feeling great.... congratulations on your weight loss!
  3. I used my unflavored Protein powder during the full liquid stage in chicken broth, cream of celery Soup and yogurt. On the pureed stage, you can mix it in cottage cheese, yogurt, nonfat refried Beans, Soups, etc. Right now I am on the soft food stage and I am using it quite a lot in my decaf coffee and decaf iced tea to give myself some extra calories and protein that I needed. You can also mix it in other drinks like Crystal Light and Powerade Zero. Unflavored protein powder is awesome!

    Feeling tired

Feeling tired is definitely expected. You just had a MAJOR surgery. I am 5 weeks out and I still get tired and feel completely wiped out at times. Last week when I saw my psychiatrist, I mentioned to him that I was so tired lately. He told me that my body is making a huge adjustment between the surgery itself and all of the weight I have lost. It is perfectly normal to be tired.
  6. To Lucky2Lose: I have been getting in over 70 grams of Protein a day since my second week out of surgery. It is just that I can't eat much at a meal, and that was putting my calorie total for the day between 450 and 500. So that's just the way it worked out for me. Now that I am adding the extra Protein Powder, it is increasing my calories and protein, obviously. Now I am getting over 100 g of protein a day and my calories are up over 600 and moving into 700 a day.
  7. Hello Everyone I am 5 weeks post op. I'm on the soft food stage. This morning I had some scrambled eggs, and I decided to try and eat a little more than I usually do. That was a big mistake. I thought "I am getting a little full", and two bites later, that went to "I think I ate too much". The next thing I know, I had to run to the bathroom and I lost my Breakfast. I have been stalling quite a bit since week 3 with my weight. I thought that if I could try and increase my calories a bit, then hopefully it would help give my metabolism the push that it needed to where perhaps I could lose a little more weight. I am currently getting in between 475-550 calories a day. My thoughts on this are that I need to just continue on the way I've been doing things, even if it means that I'm not going to lose much weight for awhile. I would like to hear others thoughts and experiences with this. Thanks for sharing! HW 334 Pre-Op diet weight 312 Surgery Day weight 300 CW 277
  8. Thank you. And I'm really grateful for the great suggestion from you. In fact, I had my decaf coffee this morning and added a tablespoon of the unjury to it... just to get in those calories. Tasted great too, couldn't even tell the Protein powder was in the coffee. I have my meals all planned out today, as usual. Plus I've added in my Unjury.... and if all goes as planned, I will get around 700 calories today for the first time since my surgery on Nov 14. Thanks again!
  9. UPDATE: Yesterday I added my unjury unflavored Protein to my decaf iced tea. Two tablespoons added to one glass of tea. I was able to finally get my calories to above 600 for the day. Prior to this, I couldn't get my calories out of the 500 calories a day range. I have been stalled for the last week. Just out of curiosity, I decided to weigh myself. I finally moved the scale and lost 2 pounds. I can't help but think that I lost the weight because of boosting my metabolism by adding more calories (thanks to the Unjury protein). There was just no way I could add anymore snacks/little meals to my diet at this point. I think the protein addition into my diet was the answer! Feeling good today.
  10. Yes, I sure found that out this morning. Not "one more morsel". I don't think I have room or even the appetite for adding another meal or snack, so I will accept the fact that I will stall and that I might not lost much weight until I get further down the road. It's really pretty important to get yourself to at least 600 calories/day, even if it's tedious. Are you adding Protein to your liquids or drinking shakes still? A 30 gram scoop of protein powder added to a soft food like refried Beans will get you approximately 25g protein and another 110 calories, as well as the protein and calories already in the beans. Using powder to supplement was the only way I could get everything I needed for months, and I still have it every morning in my coffee, even though I'm getting most of my requirements met through foods. Just something to consider...you won't lose weight reliably with the number of calories you're eating. Yes, I am still drinking the Premier Protein Shakes. I have 3 regular meals with either yogurt, cottage cheese or eggs for Breakfast. Then usually chicken for lunch and dinner, although I recently made the ricotta bake and have been eating some of it too. For my morning, afternoon and night-time Snacks, I drink the protein shakes. I am getting well over 70 grams of protein a day. Thank you for the suggestion to add some protein powder to my food. I have 2 containers of unjury protein powder, and I used it quite a bit during the full liquid and pureed stages. It is a great idea to add it to some of the foods and I can add it to some of my drinks too, and I haven't been doing that. That will help me bulk up on the calories a bit.
  11. Thank you for the suggestion. I just realized that today was the first morning that I had tried any type of egg other than "Egg Beaters". I just might try having a poached egg next time. Although, I think I got sick due to pushing myself too far... those two tiny extra bites seemed to have pushed me over the edge.

    Puréed food

Hello I actually didn't have to puree my chicken when I was on the pureed stage. You should be able to just mash canned chicken or tuna REALLY well and mix some non fat or low fat mayo with it. I did that a lot on the pureed stage. I also did nonfat refried Beans with a little bit of light sour cream.... added my unjury unflavored Protein powder to the refried beans and it was good. Greek plain, nonfat yogurt (added Stevia to sweeten it), cottage cheese, wet scrambled eggs (I used Egg Beaters). If you want extra protein, you can mix a good unflavored Protein Powder in the cottage cheese, yogurt, beans, etc. And of course I did my Premier Protein shakes while on the pureed stage.

    On the road lunch ideas

I was going to say chicken or tuna salad made with lowfat or nonfat mayo.
  15. I stalled the day I started my 3rd week post op. Stalled for a week. Then lost 5 the next week, then stalled for another week! Same as you, I did everything right as far as protein, water goes. Not much exercise yet.... but a few times on the treadmill since surgery. Starting to pick up on the exercise the last week. It's getting easier. And like you, I knew I wasn't the exception either as far as stalling goes. I knew it was normal. Maybe I will lose some this week, who knows. Good luck to you.
  16. I had my surgery on the 14th as well. How are you doing? Highest Weight - 297 When I Started working with Nutritionist at Bariatric Center - 271 Before 10 Day liquid diet - 250 Surgery Weight 239 Goal Weight - 160 I just saw this. I am doing good now. I was in pain for 4 weeks, but part of that is due to an incisional hernia that is quite large and they will have to repair it later. The largest incision from the sleeve surgery was right on top of it... ow! So we are sleeve sisters? How are you doing since your surgery on the 14th? I hope all is well. I am down 23 lbs. Bowel Movement Issues - advice?

The same thing with me. Took me 9 days to have my first BM after surgery, and it was very painful. I started taking Miralax every day and that helped a lot. My doc also allowed me to take Milk of Magnesia. I found that the combination of the Miralax and the MOM helped quite a bit. Also, not sure if you are taking any pain meds (I still was), but remember, they can cause constipation.
  18. I mean to say that the other main thing I had and still have were the Premier chocolate Protein shakes.
  19. For the full liquid phase, which I did for 2 weeks after my sleeve: Fat free Greek plain yogurt (sweeten with Stevia-it's good) sugar free Jello Sugar free chocolate pudding Organic chicken broth (added my unjury Protein powder to it-yum) Cream of chicken or cream of celery (my favorite) Soup (again, added the Protein Powder to it) That was about all I felt like eating. Mostly did the yogurt, Protein shakes and cream of celery soup. Did not feel like having much at all, and my appetite is just now starting to increase at week 5 post op.
  20. I don't know if the mashed pintos and cheese from Taco Bell is a good choice. It might be full of fat and made with processed cheese, which is not good for you, so I personally wouldn't go that route. As an alternative, you can have nonfat or low fat refried Beans. You can even put a little bit of light sour cream on them. Cream of celery soup was my favorite during my full liquid and pureed stage. I mixed in some of my unjury unflavored Protein powder to get the protein, which is important. Mashed sweet potato, mashed canned carrots. Some high protein foods during the mushy/pureed stage that I liked: scrambled eggs (I did Egg Beaters), cottage cheese, refried beans, nonfat plain greek yogurt (mixed with a little stevia to sweeten), chicken salad made with mashed canned chicken and nonfat or lowfat mayo.

    Post-op protein/fluids

I drank Premier Protein and still do. I have only tried one other brand (Bariatric Advantage) and it was too sweet for my liking. The Premier is a good one to go with, as far as the protein that you need to get. I also bought unjury plain Protein powder which is high in protein. You can mix it in chicken broth, it tastes good in it. You can also mix it in Powerade Zero or Crystal Light, and I'm sure some other drinks. It's a great option to have, especially if you get tired of the Protein shakes.

    CPAP Mask

Hello, I have been using a CPAP for almost a year. I tried the mask that only fit over the nose first, and that did not work for me.... I kept breathing through my mouth. So we went to the full face mask, and it literally only took me about 2 nights to get used to it. I sleep with it on every night and have no problems. The only time it leaks is when it is time to change out the cushion part of the mask, which is about every 30 days. I just go to my local medical supply store which is where I got my CPAP. Good luck!
  23. Hello I found out that I had sleep apnea in 2015. I had colon-resection surgery and complications. Spent 2 months in the hospital, then when I got home, I had a letter waiting for me from the hospital. It explained that during the surgery, they expected that I had sleep apnea, and they suggested that I have a sleep study done. At that time, I weighed around 330 pounds. I didn't know anything about sleep apnea at that point. I went and had my sleep study and found out that I had moderate sleep apnea. Now I sleep with a CPAP every night. I use the full face mask, that covers my nose and mouth. It only took me a couple of nights to get used to it. I have no problems sleeping with it now. I read and also my surgeon told me, that after I lose some weight, it is possible that the sleep apnea will no longer be a problem. My high weight was 334. I am now down to 279. So after I lose a significant amount more, I will go back and do another sleep study, and see if I still need my CPAP.

    Favorite Purée foods?

Yes, I was allowed to have scrambled eggs during the pureed phase. But I couldn't have hard boiled eggs until the soft stage, which is where I am now.
