    4 Days Post Op

First, congratulations on your surgery! It sounds like you are doing great on getting your liquids and Protein... and those are so important. While you are on the liquids stage you won't be able to get too many more calories than what you are already getting. The only suggestions I have are to drink a little more Protein shake if you want to up the calories, and the extra protein is good for you. You can also use an unflavored Protein powder like unjury... it's great. You can mix it in cold no calorie drinks like decaf tea, Powerade zero, crystal light. You can also mix it in chicken or beef broth, just be sure not to get the temperature too hot or it can leave protein clumps in your broth.

    Messed up already?

Don't worry, you haven't messed anything up. Some people are able to drink liquids with no problem, some aren't... everyone is different. Like you, I was able to get my liquids down very easily from the very beginning. By day 2 after surgery I was getting in over 64 ounces of liquid a day. I also did not have any issues with gas... no gas pain at all after surgery.
  3. My doctor allowed me to take Miralax and Milk of Magnesia. I remember one day the Miralax didn't help and I had to add the MOM to it. It won't hurt anything.
  4. Yes, it usually takes several days before you will be able to have a bowel movement after surgery. I finally went on day 8 after taking Miralax, because I thought 8 days without a BM was long enough. I might add that I had the feeling that I needed to go on day 8 and I felt constipated. At that point, I was till taking pain meds and they don't help with the constipation.

    Questions for big breast women

Before surgery I was a DD too. I didn't go out and buy a sports bra and I was fine. You're right, it's hard enough to find a DD in a regular bra. I think you should be fine without the sports bra.

    Puree foods

So, what is this recipe? Do you care to share ? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using the BariatricPal App Sure, here is the recipe.... I got it from this website: theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com She has some great recipes on her website, she is a former WLS patient and she has a great success story! Her recipes are on her website along with pictures and she even has an area of recipes for the pureed food stage. Shelly's Ricotta Bake 8 oz of Ricotta Cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 large Egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave.

    Cranberry Sauce

I agree... too much sugar in the cranberry sauce. And in cranberry juice as well. Most juices are packed with sugar. Also, it needs to be sugar free Jello.

    Energy?

For me, no. Not for awhile, anyway. I had low energy and was tired a lot after surgery for about the first month. It is major surgery, so it's not a surprise that my energy level was low. After about the 4th or 5th week, I started getting bursts of energy and now, at 9 weeks post-op, I have a lot more energy. Now I am able to walk a lot more and exercise. At one month out I couldn't do a whole lot. That said, everyone is different, and some here might tell you that they had energy soon after surgery.
  14. You could also order some soft fish like salmon. Mash it up really well with a fork. I would have mashed salmon on the pureed stage. Plus you get in your Protein that way, which is #1.

    Puree foods

@@ReneeLopez My nutritionist said that all I needed to do for the canned chicken was mash it up real well with a fork, so that's what I did. It worked fine with me. I know that some people prefer to puree it in their blender or food processor... it's up to you. I don't know about the pureed strawberries, it might be too early to add them. I know that your stomach during the pureed stage isn't quite ready for some fresh fruits. You might want to check with your nutritionist on that. My nutritionist said I could have mashed banana for fruit, but that was about it on the pureed stage.

    Puree foods

Yes, you can puree pinto Beans. You can have canned chicken or tuna on the puree stage. I would mix my chicken with a little lowfat mayo and seasonings and have it like a little chicken salad. Refried beans, hummus, yogurt, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, ricotta bake.

    Yesss! I got a date!

Congratulations! Feb 8th will be here before you know it!
  18. I remember not getting in enough calories too. I actually stopped losing weight and my nutritionist told me that I wasn't getting enough calories. I was getting in 450-550 a day. She told me I needed to up my calories to at least 600 a day. Like you, I couldn't fit any more food in my diet. So by suggestion of someone here on BP, I started using my unflavored Protein powder in my drinks, and I even added some extra protein and calories with my Premier Protein shakes. It gave me that 100-150 calories extra a day to bring my calories up to 600 or a little above. As a result, I started losing weight again. Slowly, but surely.

    Unflavored Protein

@SKrae430 I have no idea what happened to the message I just typed to you. I think I really messed something up there. Anyway, I was answering your question about whether or not you could taste the unjury in food. If you use about 2 Tbs in your food, it just seems to make it creamier, I can't detect the taste of the Unjury. When you use a 2 Tbs in about 8 oz. of drink, you can taste it. But it is not a horrible taste or anything. Not bad at all. If you find 2 Tbs is too much for you, you can cut it in half.

    Unflavored Protein

Thank you so much! Can you tell that it's in your food?

    Hi :)

Hello and welcome to BP I am 9 weeks post op and on regular foods. For the soft food stage, I ate scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt, a little banana for fruit. My nutritionist said canned pineapple was ok, so I would put that in my cottage cheese or yogurt for Breakfast. For lunch I would have moist cut up chicken breast meat or chicken thigh meat, wild alaskan sockeye salmon, refried Beans, mashed carrots, canned green beans. Every now and then I would have some sweet potato, but I really tried to keep my carbs to a minimum. dinner would be much like lunch. I was also told that I could have moistened ground beef during the soft food stage, but I waited to try it until I reached the regular foods stage. For Snacks I had hummus, yogurt, string cheese, or cottage cheese. Since surgery, I have been making sure that I eat my Protein first, so when I said that I would eat some carrots, green beans, or sweet potato.... I only limited it to a few bites of those things. Hope that helps. OH! Also, there is a great recipe for ricotta bake out there. Just google it and you will find it. It's really good and I was able to have that during the soft food stage.

    Unflavored Protein

I use unjury too. One scoop is about 4 Tbs. During my pureed and soft food stage, I would usually add 2 Tbs (which is about 10.5 grams of protein) to my food. Examples of foods that I added it to: refried Beans, yogurt, mashed sweet potato. Most of the time though, I use the Unjury in my drinks if I need more Protein rather than in my food. My favorite drink to add it to is decaf iced tea. Goes down easy. I add 2 Tbs per 8 oz of liquid.

4 Weeks Post Op (down 48 lbs)

Awesome! Way to go... keep up the work! You look super!
  25. Wow... glad to hear that your surgery went smoothly and that it's been easy for you so far. I hope it continues I had my surgery on 11/14 at 11 am. When I came to in recovery, I was in a lot of pain. That continued to be an issue for the rest of the day. Then, then next day, the pain had lessened. That's when they started giving me sips of broth, Water, some Jello.... I did great with all of that. I never did experience the dreaded gas pains that everyone talks about. It was never an issue. I just had pain from the incisions, mainly the big one, and then the pain of surgery itself. I had to continue taking pain meds for a couple of weeks after my surgery. Like you, I never had a problem getting liquids down. From the day after surgery, I was getting in my 64 ounces of liquids, plus some. So that was nice. Good luck to you
