Requirements before surgery
kell911 replied to kaypitre5's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
From my experience, I had to schedule with my primary doctor for the start of it all. Explain to them what you are wanting to do. This is DAY 0.....weight, height check, vital signs etc. schedule 3 more visits for the next 3 months. DAY 30 DAY 60 DAY 90. Pick your surgeon! They will start the rest, insurance verification, then once they have the info they will give you a list of things that is required by your insurance and what they need. Then you are there. I am 1/2 way in my process. I have the 3 months supervised diet. all that I am doing is supervised with my primary doctor.. Good luck -
I had started on the 6 months for my insurance then my insurance changed and so did my requirements. I will have my last weigh in with the Dr. Feb 2. I hope to be scheduled before the 1st of March. That is my plan. As for the cost, I have co pays, no deductable, I have to pay for all medications given while having the procedure and the anethesiaologist. Sorry for the spelling.

Lucky you! That would be great if you didn't have to do classes. I have to do 3 months and they are dragging out! Feels like it is taking forever.

That was never asked in my evaluation. I am so glad, I would have been angry and disturbed by that. -

Okay! I had my psych eval yesterday. It lasted 45 min's, filled out some papers about my medical history and family history. Then I was asked questions about my life as a child, food, family and what my life is like now with food and family. Does my family have any weight issues? Why I am wanting the surgery and who is there to support me in this journey? I think the evaluation went well, there were no signs to say other wise. I felt good. I got an email from my surgeons office stating that they received my evaluation from the psych Dr. and it is in my file. That is good right. No other information was in the email other than that. I shouldn't be worried right?...lol I don't see the Surgeon until 1/16/17. I am not gonna stress it I feel good about it. -
Lucky you, still working on my things to do.

Ok, so the initial consult from the 1st weigh in with my DR. or the consult with the surgeon? Sorry if taht is a dumb question. I just want to make sure I fully understand. @@kell911 BCBS was interested in the beginning weight from the inital consult. @@Mrsooten2222 I was at a 35 BMI and was approved due to co-morbidities (sleep apnea being the big one for me). Double check your insurance. -
When everything was done ans you were approved, how much did you pay out of pocket for the procedure? Anyone?
-
I have not gotten to that point yet. I wish you the best of luck and a fast recovery. Breath!!!!!

You should go ahead and get a release of information from your new Dr.s office and have them request you records. Start that now.

So was the process with Dr. Sherrods office a smooth one? I see that you are self pay, I am insurance. How many visits did you have with him before your surgery? I have to drive about 1.5 hours one way. And t I35 is a terrible drive. I have my psych eval tomorrow, and my consult with him on the 16th of Jan. I just want it all to hurry up and be done. How have you been doing since the surgery?
-
The people at the office have been amazing. I have called so many times, they should know me well. LOL

What to expect from first appointment
kell911 replied to Siyaa Ela's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like I have jumped the gun in away. I have not had my first visit with my surgeon, but when I scheduled the apt they assigned me a advocate. My advocate faxed me the criteria of things I need to be approved. I scheduled my psych eval, just scheduled my nut/exercise class and I have a weigh in on 1/3 and 2/2. The only thing I know I lack is my blood work which I will do in January after my surgeons visit. I have been trying to make sure I have everything I need and done just right. I can honestly say I have no idea what my first surgeon apt will look like..NERVOUS!!! -

I have my Psych Eval on 12/20. She said it would be 50 mins. I am excited, nervous, ready, wish I had a surgery date! -
I found they just want at least one documented weight for each of the last 2 years. Just one that shows that your bmi was high enough.with no co's or 35 with co's.
-
What weight/BMI does the insurance company look at when deciding to approve the surgery? The first DR. weight? The first surgeon apt weight?

Tired of hearing I don't need surgery!
kell911 replied to Dknal2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
To tell you the truth I keep hearing that I don't look like I need the surgery. I am 5 2 start weight 202 36.7 bmi. I am on month 2 of my diet with my Dr. I have 3 co morbidities and I have lost 4.5 lbs on 2 months. I am so tired of hearing that I don't look like I need it. I am have been heavy all my life and my weight has always been an issue. I am able to have this surgery and I am not letting any one stop this process. I love this board. It reminds me what I am doing is for me and not for anyone else. -
From the people I have talked to you will pay for all anathesia cost, surgeon, and any meds that you may be given during your stay. I think there might be a few other costs. Call you insurance company...I have BCBS FED TEXAS, BASIC PLAN.

kell911 replied to Ambwee's topic in Insurance & Financing
Ok, I have a new question for today. Like I said before I am doing the 3 months diet with the Dr. I I have lost a few pounds. What is the weight the insurance company looks at? The start of the 3 month program? The weight at the surgeons office? Which is the determining factor. I am getting more nervous as this process continues. Anyone got any helpful answers???? Thank you -
