  1. Scotland is very strict with our NHS and each area within Scotland is different too. I'm NHS Glasgow and it's taken me 10 years to get this far within the weight managment programme. Our basic timeline is like this. 1: GP sends referral if classed as morbid obese - referral can take 6 months. 2. Interview with dietitian and papers signed for referral to classes. Another 6-8 weeks before placement. 3. 12 classes to start with, one each fortnight, and during this if you lose more than 11lbs you are discharged. 4. If weight not lost then 4 classes, one each month, again if you reach 11lbs your discharged. If you gain more than 11lbs without obvious reason then you are discharged as proves your not trying 5. Repeat above with medication called Orlistat - 11Lb rule still applies . 6. If weight still not lost then you come back within 2 months to start a pre surgical class and get dates for the 4 mandatory classes that take place every 2 weeks. During this time you need to have weight loss and go on a practice surgical diet. 7. By the time you have done 2 classes you should have seen the surgeon, THEY make the final decision and will put you on the waiting list. If approved you normally will have surgery within 12 weeks. During this time you must lose weight or maintain with no more than 2Lb weight gain either way. Forgot to say, if you do leave by choice or discharged, you must wait 13 months before referral again and another 6 months potentially for going into all the classes again. No fast track happens and the rules have just changed in NHs so diabetics only get surgery unless special case. Getting plastic surgery for a Panni etc is even more difficult as you MUST have a skin infection or irritation for over a year before weight loss began or surgery was completed Hope this helps Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  2. Hubby has APkD so smelly pee is a specialty for us due to risk of infection. If your on Protein drinks it could be that as its common here but any ouchies then get checked. Congrats on sleeve, I meet surgeon tomorrow and hopeful of March surgery date. Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  3. Protein can do that but so can a systemic infection. Any pain or burning? - get checked for your own peace of mind Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

  7. Hi guys! Hope your all well and relaxing (it's 2345hrs here in Scotland). I start my preop classes tomorrow with a meeting with my surgeon on Friday morning - very excited, terrified and whole jumble of other emotions since this has taken me 10 years working the programme to get to this point. Anyway enough babbling from crazy Scottish person lol I'm making a list of questions for these classes and surgical team and had a good browse via forum for similar topics - I'm just curious if anyone had any major wacky questions to ask but forgot at the time? Wishing you all the best! Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

    1st appointment not tI'll june

So if the pathway is similar to here (just to say) then first appointment will be probably a meet n greet, set up if future appointment and if you qualify for help. I don't think you automatically qualify for surgery in England as its seems as Cosmetic surgery but it may mean a long term weight management pathway, shrink and maybe last appointment is a year or so down line. Friend in Brum had his done via NHS and his PCT was 3 appointment spread over 2 years . Call them up and ask for a closer appointment, may get lucky Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

Hi Lass, can you remind me the pathway that your taking to surgical? It does seem a longway away but if your NHS then i can help!
  11. Yeah speak to your surgeon and team, pregnancy isn't advised for first 18 months over here due to obvious reasons. Congrats if pregnant! Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

    Constipation

Laxido for me for gallbladder surgery a few years ago (rectal fisures hurt!). It's a stool softener and 8 a day can be taken and works quickly. Always use a softer or you will be in some serious pain Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  13. I'm pre surgery, have been for near 10 years as NHS Scotland don't make it easy but I decided to watch the above show and I'm boiling mad. He gets surgery, and totally ignores the rules and guidance given by his team - his mum has had same surgery and is letting him eat pizza, sweets and coke less than 3 months out of surgery!! I'm no saint and will make mistakes as probably everyone has done no matter how well you follow the rules but for the love of all things holy why!!!!! If I was his insurance company I would be billing him for not following insurance rules. Beiling mad!!! Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

    Refferal sent

Even harder now as up here if your not diabetic it's zero surgery on NHS for new groups and from what I'm hearing England is going to start treating it like up here due to PCT funding. Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

Hi lass, sounds pretty different than here, below is for us in Glasgow 1. Referral to weight management by GP which takes 6-10 weeks. 2. Interview at WM and then another 1-4 month wait for opening in new group 3. Bi weekly class for 12 weeks. If you lose more than 11.5lbs they discharge you. 4. Phase 2 is monthly meetings for 4 months. Again 11lb rule applies. 5. Repeat phase 2 with Orlistat. 6. If not lost 11.5lbs over the above phases then continue onto surgical route 7. Surgical route takes upwards of 6 months and you can be discharged for failing to lose weight or sabotage. 8. Two week preop diet, if weight loss then referral to surgeon sent - repeat if not. 9. 4 classes held over 8 weeks for assessment and shrink etc. During this time surgeon appointment happens. Surgeon can agree or discharge you if unsuitable. If you leave service then 18 months must pass before GP can refer you again. *passes out* I'm shortly to see surgeon so this is my 5th time doing this in over 10 years so fingers crossed Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

My horrible experience at a restaurant.

You can get OPA cards to download which let's you order smaller sized meals but DO NOT automatically entitle you for discounts. Very similar to Gluten Free or Lactose free cards. Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????
  18. Hi guys, OK so we have four classes to attend over 8 weeks before we see the surgeon and I'm wondering if different people/surgeons and countries have similar set ups before surgery happens. Glasgow where I live is one of the toughest programmes in Scotland to get access too and I'm part of a last group who has a chance of surgery without required diabetes. Anyone willing to share class information, what sessions are about? Questions needed to ask etc? Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

Complications from advancing diet too soon

Kinda noticed that too, not sure how it all works in US but with us here in Glasgow it's so strict that surgeon appointment is only placed once investigation done by WM team. Psych can cancel you, dietian can cancel you and surgeon won't even look at you if they have suspected weight gain to meet targets. It's insane. I'm so sorry to hear of your family member. Pre surgery classes.

Thanks Lehana. We had to do the Psych and dietican review too and pass those before even getting referred to surgeon - fine with me as makes sense to have head in right gear before surgery. Fridge Pickers Wear Bigger Knickers ????

    Avoiding Hypoglycemia

This happens to me a lot and I need to watch weight but also don't want the sugar spike. Maybe a glucose tablet (think they are called Dextrose here) and basically are fast release glucose but without the horrific sugar rush. Maybe also something like Berocca? 23. I'm on the nexplanon implant as one thing to think of is tablet intake and getting stuck due to Water intake. Lots of options but best option would be not swallowing anything or having to fiddle with stuff. 10 years with my OB/GYN and she recommended implant for surgery Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App

    Lady Parts

Could be Protein or potential infection such as UTI, BV or maybe natural yeast. Maybe make appointment with clinic and just get checked incase. Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App
  25. Danni word of caution - your not recommended to get pregnant for 18 months after surgery - check with your insurance/doctor as you may need to have BC established like some require. Best wishes Sent from my HTC One M9 using the BariatricPal App
