    Day 4 Post-Op - Is This Normal?

liquids run right through your sleeve. Some people have problems swallowing at the esophagus. I did for just a few days because I had a hernia repair. But could drink 12 oz of Water in a few minutes and a whole pre made shake in 20 minutes. I was hungry the first week (the 4th and 5th day were the worst), I was told that although the glands were removed with your stomach, the hunger hormones are still in my system. Don't know if that's true but by the end of the second week I was never hungry and now, 8 weeks post WLS, if I go a very long time without eating I do feel enough hunger to remind me to eat something.

    I'm freaking starving.

There was a point early on where I felt ravenous, or throughout I did, but when I went to actually eat (or at that point drink) I found that I wasn't all that hungry. I still juggle with deciding if my body is hungry or is it just my mind. I find that waiting 15 mins and reassessing works for me. Ask your surgeon if you can progress to puree, but I would avoid mash potatoes or mac and cheese, as a meal since they are too high in carbs. I have Protein FIRST then carbs. Sometimes (not usually) those carbs are spoon or three of I crave.

Thanks again for trying to "educate me. But I have a life and all and your drivel has become tiresome. Move on.

    Not doing so well

Sorry I am NEVER hateful and my initial intention was to help. As for you and your seemingly desperate attempt to "educate" me. I have a life and can't get all bogged down with your OPINIONS. Move on

Oh Lipstick Lady...if only I had seen ur post before I posted. Now I have to fell shi**y about not being "nice" and taking the bare. Damn. Now if I really want to get the Mary Poppins "politeness" squad on my butt I should go an mention this post in "rants and raves".

Gustavo, thanks so much for your compassionate and thoughtful response to my post. I can see why YOU are so very superior to me in every way. If you had bothered to read the whole thread you would have seen that this was not my first post to this attention seeking drama queen. But why do that instead of jumping all over my a**? Maybe we should all be kind and encouraging when someone is actively trying to kill themselves? That would be SO HELPFUL. You enjoy your holidays...Notice how I didn't say "merry Christmas"? That's because I'm not so self centered that I think that everyone celebrates Christmas.

    Finding the very fine line

Yup. A very fine line... eat very slowly and pay attention to how you feel right before you over do it. . It took me about 3 weeks and I still eat too much once in a while.

    Excercise

I walk 2 miles ever 2nd day... why can't I edit my posts on my tablet?
  9. Aggiemae

    Excercise

I am almost 8 weeks post op, started walking immediately. It took a while to walk a mild but now I walk a mile ever other day. I was cleared for all exercise at 6 weeks but so far other that some toning using bands not taking to it. We have a gym membership ( I actually walk by the gym on some of my walks!) but I just don't like it... I just got a gold gym home gym. Lots of exercise putting it together. Paid $75.00 for it on Facebook, still in the box! Going to start alternating a toning day with a walking day. Hop my weight loss will sky rocket!
  10. Holy crap! Next time I think I am having a shifty day ill read your post... hope you come back after you have slept off all that gas station food and what ever you washed it down with. I was definitely in survival mode thru much of grad school. In professions where the professors are also practicing in the same field there is definitely a tendency for the instructors to "eat their young", and this was before all the "accommodations" for "handicaps" like "anxiety disorder" and "attention deficits"... I can't imagine working full time with a full time law school load. Is academic probation a possibility? Or get a not from your doctor about your anxiety "disorder". Good luck.

    Anyone try these

Pricy for the amount of Protein but if they taste good fruit flavor would be a nice treat. Is collagen protein readily digestible? All sorts of (doubtful) claims about collagen protein supplements on line...

So basically you decided that ignoring your doctor's instructions and eating a week after major surgery is OK and you came here to find people who agree? Great. Your insurance paid for this surgery because you are morbidly obese. If you can't follow simple medical instructions to prevent serious post operative problems I m not going to waste my time on you. But, before I BLOCK you, unless you are well bent on killing yourself I suggest you get some psychiatric counseling ASAP.
  13. My parents, especially my father, have never been my "go to" choices for information or advice. The older I got the more this was true. I must say your father seems to have quite a flair for the dramatic. Is he used to getting his way? If he is then your decision is hard on him not just because you are doing this. So, be kind to him while you ignore what he says. As for the bland food, in case you don't know, you can have all the spices you want. I put hot sauce in my Soup in the hospital. And once you are back on solid food, 4 oz will seem like a lot ! Good luck with everything.

    Perspective

You two could appear in comedy clubs together! I can't life 50 pounds (yet) but I now can carry the Kirby monster up and down the stairs by myself and open jars without help for the first time in years.

    Okay, I'll take it!

    Congradulations! Going shopping?

    Shopping for surgery

It will be here before you know it. And if you take advantage of all the pre op education you will be far better off that if you get the immediate gratification of getting surgery right now and really, that desire to get what we want as soon as we want it is one of the biggest reasons we are fat in the first place. So..take this time to evaluate your behavior and start making changes that will improve your post surgery outcome and prepare you for a LIFETIME of thinking, behaving and eating differently. Good luck!
  17. I love my butt now that the big slab of fat (i call it a butt shelf) is gone. Spanxx make you look like a sausage because they flatten out everything equally. I do love the shape wear that that has the two circles of non constricting fabric in back to accommodate pretty round bottoms. . Not ready for the buttless yet variety... but who knows what the future will bring. I am considering becoming a post WLS undergarments designer. Support garments don't have to be hideous or only come in "nude".
  18. Flares of gallbladder disease are very common when you are losing weight even if you don't have WLS.
  19. My surgeon routinely repairs hernias and removes gallbladders during WLS. If yours doesn't and your insurance accepts the pre op requirements you can consider changing surgeons. I did this the day of my last pre op class.
  20. Neither my insurance or surgeon required pre surgery weight loss of anyone under 350 lbs. The NIH issued a report about pre surgery weight loss. Discuss the findings with your Dr. READ THIS: https://asmbs.org/resources/preoperative-supervised-weight-loss-requirements After years and years of yoyo dieting ( I'd lost 100 pounds 7 time in 20 years my body rebelled and this January it took me 6 WEEKS to lose 4 pounds on a strict 1200 calorie a day diet. My surgeon told me that this was what made me an ideal candidate for WLS.

    3 months post-op food issues

I agree. This needs to be addressed by your Dr.
  22. Aggiemae

    How do you do it

Can you find another more competent surgeon who has a staff to help you?
  23. Aggiemae

    Not doing so well

You incision is not healed and you are still recovering from surgery. The liquid diet is a prescription not a suggestion. Did you have any pre op education? Are you keeping a food diary? What exactly are you eating?
  24. The sleeve does not stretch. You will not stretch your sleeve. If you've lost 58 pounds you are doing pretty good. You should try to work out if you're physically hungry or is it in your head.
