  1. 3 of The 5 people in hospital when I got my sleeve where having lap bands removed. About 10 years ago I went thru the whole process to get a lap band but decided against it after I had to have two (way expensive) dental implants removed due to an ongoing auto immunity problem. I spent the past 10 years flossing and regaining the same 50 pounds but I think I dodger bullet.d
  2. I'm actually starting to like the bariatric shakes! I'm glad the other shakes are better for you. Sent from my VS985 4G using the BariatricPal App I really didn't mind the taste! And I liked that I could add powdered Peanut Butter and stuff to it to change the flavor up. It just didn't agree with me. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was in the same boat with those. They didn't taste bad but my problem was the smell of the Protein powder. It made me not want to drink them. I like the fact Premier Protein is already mixed so I don't have that issue. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Interesting. I didn't like the sweetness or the chalky taste of Premier shakes pre op and the post op they made me barf. I love the unjury, the unflavored has no taste or odor at all. Mix 8oz of 1%milk with one scoop and you get 27gr of protein. The strawberry actually tastes like strawberry. But for now sweet things gross me out so I mostly mix the unflavored with cashew milk, V8 juice or bone broth. I made a container of flavoured drink yesterday using one scoop of vanilla, one scoop of unflavored, 16 oz of milk and a tea spoon of instant decaf coffee. It was tasty and 58 gr of protein...Half of it is still in the fridge. I ordered a 15 flavor pack of the fruit flavored drink from here today for our trip.
  3. My surgery was scheduled for 5 days after my perop appointment where I got the diet sheet. So I didn't do the 2week pre op. There was a viral thing going around so someone cancelled. My liver function is good, no fatty liver disease dispute my weight so the surgeon offered me the spot because we are going to Europe in mid December and she wanted as much recovery time for me at home as possible. I did have more post op pain that normal and I am still wearing a compression tank top 24/7 for incision pain so I think that he diet is essential to easier recovery.
  4. The sleeve maintains normal anatomy. That seems a good trade off for (statistical) slower and less weight loss. I plan to make the most of mine!

    New sleeved needs help!

I was really hungry the first week. I'm 11 days out now and it's better. We fat people don't like feeling hungry but hang in there. I do find that the desolvable vitamins seem to smooth the hunger, probably because they give my mouth something to do for a few minutes. Taste good too. Also warm liquids like broth and tea. I add unflavored protein to the broth.

    Stall at 2.5 weeks out.

Get unflavored powder. I add it everything makes getting my 90 grams a snap. I use unjury and it doesn't add any flavor or thickness at all.

    Thai spring rolls

I'm not supposed to try raw veggies for quit a while. Some people that months to tolerate them.

    Regular Diet

9 weeks but it's hardly a "regular" diet. 60 grams of Protein (avoid red meat at first) divided into 4-6 meals plus however my much veggies I can add without feeling over full. Estimated 4oz of volume to start moving up to 6 oz as tolerated.

    Protein powders

I think that protein powder will be part of my life forever. 20 gr of protein, zero fat, zero carbs in a small volume? Turns a glass of v8 juice into a protein drink? It's amazing.
  12. You stomach holds 6-8 oz your First priority is getting enough Protein to sustain you. That's forever. After that you can have veggies and carbs. 8oz of of ice cream is about 280 calories 8oz of cauliflower is about 26 calories (72 calories with a tea spoon of butter) If you choose cauliflower (or equivalent) all the time you will loose weight if you choose it 90% of the time you will not gain weight. You lose weight by choosing cauliflower 90% of the time.

    Seriously?

Sorry, whatever was I thinking? You can't have beer, have vodka instead. So, can I eat chicken wings and have beer 8 days post op?
  14. Aggiemae

    Seriously?

THERE WAS A POST HERE LAST NIGHT ABOUT sleeve "failure" after lap band "failure". She lost weight after both surgeries and (insert a long list of "reasons" ) gained it all back. How is that a "lap and "failure" or sleeve "failure"? The person is thinking of a third surgery.... I can't believe an ethical doctor would agree to this but she will likely get another surgery and in two years an ounce that it has also "failed". Makes me want to scream.

    Health Insurance

Our insurance covers it. They have requirement, including 6months of pre op classes and monthly medical checks. You can only go thru one clinic. There is a nutritionist, a physical therapist and a psychologist on staff. You can choose your surgeon. Our insurance requires a psychological screening, and from some of the post I see here I think that all bariatric surgery candidates should be screened for mental health issues and eating disorders. Post bariatric cosmetic surgery is excluded but more and more they are approving it in cases where there is skin breakdown or infection.
  16. You can't actually "give up" on the sleeve and unless you want to suture to leek you have to comply with your post op instructions. I did some web crusing before my surgery and was astounded to see the number of people (women mostly) who proudly proclaimed that they ha e been eating should food since a week post opt. BTW, IT Also turns out that they loose slower and ultimately less weight in the end. I am concerned that you are not taking advantage of the support available to you. It was one of the things you paid for when you got the surgery. I am also concerned that you where given so little information but you can remedy that by reading posts here and asking questions. Bottom line is that for you're safety and well being you must follow your post op instructions to the letter
  17. I AM SO EMBARRASSED TO CALL THEM CAUSE THIS IS MY FAULT I WAS NEGLECTFUL AND WANTED TO TEST MY SLEEVE. They are there to HELP you. Shame is probably one of the things that made you fat in the first ace. Let go of it. My bariatric clinic has a psychologist on staff. Does yours? If yes go see him/her asap or call the office for an urgent referral.

"Only" lost 14 pounds? In 21/2 weeks? Give yourself a break. That's amazing. Consider not stepping on the scale so often. Or better yet donate your scale to Goodwill. Our scale is now in the kids bathroom. down stairs and with all boys a biohazard area.
  19. DEFINATELY!!!! He has to either be on call or provide back up!!! I did extensive research on my surgeon before going to them. Something doesn't add up !!!Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I'm a nurse and I have seen worse.
  20. The protein power is an amazing addition to our bag of tricks. 20 gr 100 calories and zero fat in such a small volume? I didn't know it existed until I ordered supplies right before surgery. plan to include some in my diet until I an at goal. Also love unsolvable vitamins. They take 10 minutes to resolve I look forward to them.
  21. I bet that you will! With 160 pounds to lose I am down 112 within the first year. At 65 I thrilled and haven't had any negatives. Well, loose skin, but that was inevitable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I seem to be losing steadily. I know its only been 11 days and things can slow down. At the intro class they gave a basic formula and so I was expecting to loose 80 pounds in a year. Just about what a want and under 200 lbs. I watched lots of tubes and read lots of blogs (It seems that people who are eating grill cheese sandwiches a week after surgery like to make videos!) "Average" includes everyone....So was left with the impression that what I will get out of this is exactly what I put in.
  22. According to my surgeon age is a factor. She calculated that I should expect to loose 40 pounds in the first year and 60-80 total by the end of the second year. I intend to prove her wronged.

    Hanging skin

Sounds like you need to see a plastic surgeon especially if you are getting broken skin or rashes under your areas of loose skin. Sometimes treating this is not considered cosmetic surgery.

    Band to sleeve Failure

The surgery is supposed to be a tool. When I got my sleeve 3 or the 5 other bariatric patients were having lap band revisions so maybe it wasn't the best tool... but I would think seriously about having a third surgery maybe this isn't the best choice for you in the long run.
