    Shoulber pain

Call your surgeon first thing in the morning. If you still have yours shoulder pain can be caused by gallbladder problems. In any case it's on my.The list of thing to call the doctor about I was given even at discharge.
  2. Only 52 pounds? That's over half a pound a day! Those 100 pound weight losses in 2-3 months you see on TV are people who started out @500+ pounds. Lots of that weight is retained water. We started out at about the same weight and I have lost 15 pounds in 14 days. I am thrilled. If I am down to 222 on 1/25/17 I'm going to reward myself with a ridiculously expensive indulgence!
  3. Link to full paper? Been a smarmy bitching long?

Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

I haven't been here long but both times another poster has gone bitchy about one of my comments it was because I advocated pre op education...oops! So sorry that being an educated well informed consumer of medical care puts you out... fat people don't like to wait for gratification, it's why we are FAT. You've probably been fat for 10 years waiting 6 more months while getting some insight and tools for success isn't going to kill you...actually it might save your life. Ok. I feel better now.

    Alcohol

My plan allows alcohol after 3 months but no beer, not even small batch craft beer.... I probably have 3-4 drinks a year but the food holidays are coming. ....I think your doctor pulled that "statistic" out of his bum.
  6. The Fluid in your shakes counts as a liquid so hopefully you are getting more than 10 oz a day. I had a very hard time with Water the first week. Managed 16 oz if I was really trying. I found that warm liquids were easier to swallow so had a cup of warm (hot makes the powder clump) broth with 1/2 scoop of unflavored Protein powder (~11 gr protein) and sipped a cup of hot decaf earl grey with milk twice a day. I and on day 16 and drink about 80 oz of clear no calorie fluid without any problem. Even ice water.
  7. Our insurance covers this you can get premiere or optisource . I got a shipment of the outsource (it was the brand the hospital used). Alas it's really sweet I blend it with ice but After a week I found that I dreaded drinking it, I had unjury samples from the NUT pre op and ordered it in the canisters before I know about insurance coverage. I called and asked It turns out that the insurance will reimburse me for what ever shake I wanted for three months as long as I had an RX. Just mentioning because the company that sells the optisource does all the insurance stuff but you have to use the brand they market. It only took a few minutes for me to get the shake I actually like on my own and I already got the reimbursement check
  8. You just had major surgery and this is not typical or expected. Don't panic it might be a reaction to the anti bacterial cleanser or The suture closuree (mine where glued) but PLEASE call your surgeon (or the sevice or the on call) and let someone know first thing in the morning.

    Driving after surgery

I started driving 4 days post op. A bit of incision tenderness getting into the car, I drive a Mini Cooper (new purchase, tiny car for my future tiny self...I plan to shrink into it over the next 6 months!) but drove my husband's SUV the first week because it was more comfortable. I could have driven home from the hospital if I had been allowed.

Anyone willing to share their food diary?

Yesterday: 15 days outand just started on "mushy solids" I eat every two or three hours. Hot decaf tea with lemon -12oz Fluid egg and I oz chicken or fish, tea spoon of hot sauce -12 gr Protein After at least 1/2 hour clear no cal fluid -12oz Blended unjury shake, cashew milk ice 21gr / 16oz After 30 mins fluids, finished 8 oz 4oz Cottage cheese (2% fat) add 1/4 scoop unflavored protein I/4 scoop blended into an oz of milk. 12 gr 1% milk mixed with 1/2 scoop unflavored Protein powder 14gr 8oz Salmon 4oz (weighed raw) , 5cc cup of browns rice and Beans ~ 5c.f. chopped yams, 1oz zucchini, 1/4 tea sp butter (to steer fish) 12 gr but I could only finish a bit over 1/2 of the fish. for evening shake, added carbs to see if it would help me sleep better. 1 scoop vanilla shake, 4 oz "supper food juice" blended with a cup of ice- 21gr protein 12oz fluid I sipped Water but didn't record so about 80oz total and about 100 gr protein. I weigh or measure everything I eat and aside from the shakes and desolvable bariatric multi and Calcium everything is organic and mostly home grown. I have a food journal I plan my meals out ahead of time on the left page and record what I actually eat and drink on the right page. I also record my Vitamin supplements.

    Wls out of town

60 miles. It was a haul once a week for 6 months for life style classes once a month for pre op and 14 provider appointments. Thought the nurse practitioner, NUT psych, PT appointed were scheduled in pairs. We have a condo in Portland and if I could get a bunch appointments clumped together I stayed over night but we have animals (LOTS of animals!) and I had to leave their care to a lazy over indulged 16 year old since my husband is a night shift ER doc. I have no regrets doing it this way. After all it's major surgery. According to the hospital statistics (they have a decade worth of 1 and 4 year follow ups. People who have intense pre op prep are twice as likely not to regain their weight at the 4 year follow up.

    For the women out there!

Have you tried smaller more frequent meals? Avoiding caffeine and chocolate? Or you can eat SLIGHTLY more on those few days.
  13. My goal weight is my surgeons estimate based on some age/current weight/activity level formula. It's the "average" weight losses in two years. It seems likely keep a realistic and doable goal so I put it on my weight/BMI ticker. I intend to be 80 in ONE YEAR And plan to loose 20 more pounds the second year.

    I ate an egg

No question just wanted to post about eating an egg. First non liquid. I have never actually made just one egg before. I touched it and ate slowly and felt full! Full on ONE egg...amazing.

    I ate an egg

I made 4 oz of salmon, an oz of baked yams and 3 normal slices of zucchini for dinner. I have leftovers. Going to eat them tomorrow.
  16. According to my Dr the follow up on the surgery performed before establishing the full service (PT, NUT, PSCH) bariatric clinic found that 80% of the patient regained most or all of their weight at the five year follow up. The four year out data for patients getting comprehensive pre op care show that about 50% still real n some weight 25% still regain at least 50% of their weight but 40% are still at or BELOW goal The goal is BMI of 27 or less, so still overweight.

    Clothes

I had clothing from size 24-14 and after purging everything I did not love I sorted down and by season, still nice we travel a lot and I sometimes need summer cloths in the winter. I plan to donate or toss everything as soon as it's to big. The size 24's where loose by my surgery day but the 22's were tight. I laundered and boxed all the 24'sc up to donate to "dress for success" this morning.
  18. I figure I was fat for 10 years going up and down... other that wanting what I want when I want it... really, what difference would 6months make.

    Hair loss prevention

You can make sure you take your vitamins and monitor your protein. Couldn't hurt.
  20. I was put out by having to wait...actually my inability to wait for what I want is one of the biggest reasons I am fat.... The tools and knowledge I gained in the six pre op months where life changing. I am sure that's true in some cases but based on some of the questions and comments posted on this site (for example: three days post op can I eat sausage?) there are many people who don't give this nearly enough thought before they have major abdominal surgery that will require a life time of commitment.
  21. if you're on plan you are losing FAT no matter what scale says.
  22. I went out to lock the car just now and found a package on my porch. Compression tights. High waisted and $10 EACH from GENIE. I got three sizes the xml fits perfectly and the support is great and right were you need it.

    Soft food and protein

I made a menu of two 2-3 oz meals (3 parts Protein one part carbs) they come to about 12 gr protein each unless it's something I can add unflavored protein too... So I still need three shakes or protein fortified cottage cheese or yogurt . The unflavored Protein powder is going to be in my food plan for a very long time.

    Compression wear, cheap and nice

I have a neoprene body holster that attaches like a corsett it is nearly undetectable. It's not exactly fast access though. But I'm not expecting to defend myself against a zombie apocalypse anytime soon.

    Weekly weighed thread

My weekly weight day is Tuesday though I did get weighed at PT on Saturday. I have lost 15 pounds in 14days, not counting the fluid weight I put on in the hospital. I did not do a pre op diet.
