    Scale

I felt like crap for a week and was also hungry. I'm just 19 days out and feel great. I walked 1/2 mile yesterday! As for your scale. Give it to Goodwill and let it make someone else crazy.
  3. I don't understand why a surgeon would remove most of someone s stomach wthout pre op counseling. Seems like a set up for failure. Good that you are here for support.
  4. Yeah I didn't have to do a 2 week liquid diet.. only one day. Maybe thats why I was in so much pain after I was given the diet but my surgery was moved up to just five days later. I was in so much pain that I stayed in hospital an extra night and I did wonder if not doing the full two weeks was the reason. Live and learn.

    6 months diet with dr

I wish my surgeon understood that! Of course I'm making changes and my weight is slowly dropping. But they want me to like 5 pounds a month! Sent from my iPhone Old school. The thinking once was that a patient has to "prove" they could lose weight before getting surgery. The exception is if you're to obese for surgery. The NIH research has shown that pre surgery weight lose programs have no benefit. Find out if you're insurance requires it. Google the research and print it out for your Dr d insurance company.
  6. I don't know why the surgeon don't suggest it but she thought it was a good idea when I asked her. I found that wearing a compression tank top helped with the incision pain immensely. Especially when getting into a sitting position from laying down. Spanks and Genie are budget friendly options.

    Am I doing this right?!

You need to be getting g more protein. You need it to heal from surgery. I'm not a fan of sweet shakes so I add a scoop of unflavored Protein powder to 8 oz of 1% milk it's 29grams of protein in a small amount. And the powder doesn't change the taste of the milk at all. How much daily protein did your surgeon recommend for you?Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using the BariatricPal App 90 grams. It'based on my pre op weight. The amount of protein needed will go down as I lose weight. What did your surgeon or NUT advise?

    9 weeks post-op and I dislike eating

How many calories should I be eating right now? I'm 2 weeks out and haven't been above 400 calories a day! I'm at around 50ish grams of protein a day. I was never told to watch calories. Thanks A gram of protein has about 3 calories, but of course many protein food contain fat which is 9 calories per gram. I am supposed to have 90 grams of protein. And can add up to 30 grams of carbs. Most of my protein comes from Protein powder. I use the injury unflavored since I am not a big fan of sweet shakes. One scoop mixed with 8oz of 1% milk is 29 grams of protein and about 190 calories. If I have three a day I get just under my daily requirement and (as I am der) some fat so my hair and skin don't dry out. The amount of protein required will go down as I lose weight and I will switch to almond or cashew milk (only 25 calories but little protein). I usually have two milk drinks and one drink of the powder mixed with a cup of ice and 4oz of "super food" juice, plus two 2-3 oz meals. It comes to about 600 calories, though I don't think the calories matter as much as getting enough protein. Most women in my support group who past the immediate post op restrictions (and also steadily losing weight) are eating about 800-900 calories a day.

    Getting rid of clothes?

If you have nice work cloths consider donating them to "dress for success". My plan is to give away everything as soon as it's slightly loose. I'm 3 weeks post and already have a big of stuff t,o give away. I sorted my cloths by size and season and put them in labeled boxes. I had a bulging closet so the cloths where no surprise but I was shocked and all the panties, bras and shape ware. Probably hundreds of dollars worth most of it never worn. I did take some cloths to consignment and made some $ but it was to much work to bother.

    Hormonal

No not dying fat cells, but if you are more than 100 pounds and have lost 30 pounds you could be starting normal ovulation cycles.

    Psych Eval tomorrow

You surgeon requires a 6 month pre op diet? Do you know why? Years ago all bariatric surgery required that the patient "prove" he/she "could" loose weight. The NIH did a study that showed there was no long them benifit...so I'm just nosey.

    Am I doing this right?!

If it's not on your surgeons list of 3 week post approved foods then you are right that you "probably/most likely" should NOT be eating them. You choose to have most of your stomach removed, an extreme measure you loose weight. If you want to succeed you need to stay on your program. How much pre op counseling did you have? Did you see a psychologist or a nutritionist?

    Therapy

If your surgeons office doesn't have a therapist ask the NUT they usually know who's good. I can't imagine doing this without counseling and my support group.

    Scare and Confused

Did your explain the reason for this diet? I only had 5 days between my pre op appointment and surgery. I had a great deal of post op pain due to all the extra organ manipulation. Don't worry, even though you will be eating even less food, ou won't be as hungry after the surgery.

    9 weeks post-op and I dislike eating

I am just about three weeks post op and have to make a meal plan every morning and stick to it. The two times I didn't do it the Protein on my food log was under 40 grams/500 calories for the whole day. I am never hungry something completely new for me. Maybe this is how thin people mostly feel?
  17. I made dinner tonight for the first time. 12 days since surgery. I'll post about it later since I can't see what I am typing when I start a thread.

Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required

Visits the thread. My cousin on public assistance got approved. Proving what a bitching you are by stalking me here is a crazy. Where are those links to research proving that pre op education doesn't effect out come? Maybe you can pull one out of your butt?

    Lemon water

. I put hot sauce in my chicken broth!

    Lemon water

You can have infused water on your first post op day. Honey is sugar, empty calories, so I would wait on that. Crystal light doesn't have any vitamins C but it is nice to have different tastes. I like lemon cucumber water right now.
  21. Consider masked cauliflower s with a splash of milk and a bit of butter instead of potatoes, far less calories and carbs. Same with canned cream Soup. I make cream soup by cooking a pound of low cal veggies and preening with broth and milk. I decide up into 6oz containers. After heating it (up to 140 degrees or the Protein will clump. I add a scoop of unflavored protein power mixed with enough warm milk to make it smooth. You can substitute 1/2 can unsweetened coconut milk for the 1% milk for more fat and a different flavor. ,I like curry coconut

    Weed.

To the original poster: I am sure w you were told not to smoke before surgery. If Yuri had asked your surgeon would have told you this includes marijuana. As the above poster says you can use eatables and tinctures after your 6 week surgery recovery period. BTW, I live in a legal state that is my hospitals policy.
  23. OBVIOUSLY? I have a master's in social work (Rutgers) a BSN (Sandford) and a doctorate in nursing (Oregon Health Sciences University) I've been a nurse for 40 years and high risk nursing case manager for 30years. Since getting my doctorate 12 years ago a full time patient advocate and (unfortunately) spend countless hours at case conferences. I just don't respond to bitchy OPINIONS, especially since my original response was completely benign. There is plenty of published research. As soon as one of the "experts here posts a link to research proving they pre operative education DOESN'T effect outcome I'll post links.

    Weight on after surgery

Try a compression test shirt for the incision pain. It reallyhelped me. I already had it it was made by "genie" i wore it or 10 days. Spanks make one a too. Don't spend a lot of money on it. Mine as under $20. I think I got it at Target.
  25. In reality MANY people regain a significant amount of the weight they lost after having bariatric surgery. Research at one north Carolina clinic found that 30% regain all the weight in 2-3 years. http://www.nawls.com/public/102.cfm https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24463895 Estimates run between 30- 60. And almost everyone weight fluctuates 3-5 throughout out the day, every day.
