    HAPPY HEALTHY HOLIDAYS CHALLENGE!

    Current weight 248lbs
  2. I agree that your can't do much after the skin is sagging but I know from my own 64 year experience with my own skin that there are many things you can do to minimize sagging and wrinkling. I have in my work probably see thousands of postpartum bellies, the ones that are flat and stretch mark free 6 months later are the ones belonged to women who did postpartum toning exercises rubbed with coco butter and vitamin E during and after pregnancy.

    Losing Motivation

Clever girl, if you could lose steadily you probably wouldn't need WLS. This past January, After years and years of yo-yo dieting I wasn't able to lose more that a 1/2 pound a week on 1600 calories a day. That was the reason I decided to have WLS. Do what you can but don't beat yourself up. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Only me

I hade to be on a high lysine diet for Bell's palsy and got to really like sardines. A squirt a single use packet of lemon juice and 1/2 of a mayo packet into the tin and mash it up. And like tuna it travels well so you can keep some in your car or purse for food "emergencies ". Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Food Funeral

A woman in my pre op class mourned so hard that she gained 35 pounds. Doing more of what caused me to need WLS in the first place seems ridiculous to me. I did plan to have one fancy meal between my pre op appointment with the surgeon and my surgery date but that turned out to be just 6 days, so ended up with no "last supper" at all. Before W.L.S. and after W.L.S.

I stocked up and recommend that you do as well but wanted to add that I was driving 3 days post op. Could have driven myself home from the hospital if they didn't have a policy against it. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  11. I have RA and have been on my 3:1 low carb diet since 10/25. I have no restrictions on fat and use cream in my morning tea and have 1/4 of an avocado try to use 1 tea spoon of olive oil sometime during the day. I have been PAIN FREE since 11/3 and completely off narcotic pain medications for the first time since 2006 for the past 5 days. I know that this is due to the change in my diet. I have lost over 100 pounds 7 times in the past 20 years and have had very little sagging skin. Some of this is genetics but I think that drinking at least 64 ounces of plain Water, using a lotion with added Vitamin C and E and taking quality oral Vitamin C, E, lysine and Biotin helps and certainly can't hurt. I don't want to weigh!

I am almost 6 weeks post sleeve, 100% on plan and almost never hungry . I was trying to weight once a week but even that was driving me nuts. I took the scale to a friends house on Friday. Smartest thing I've done since deciding to have WLS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    At the grocery store

Sounds like Sunday afternoon in our local WinCo! Which reminds me, I need to go get 10 pounds of pinto Beans... Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I had considered donating the scale to Goodwill but it was expensive and realistically it's a necessity for other members of my household. I have been trying to weighing once a week since my surgery 10/25. On Friday I took the scale to my friend house to help her weigh some boxes she was shipping and decided to leave the scale there. Now I Can't weigh myself at home and stress about every ounce. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Going nuts

Protein does not get stored as fat any more than carbs do. Excess calories get stored as fat. You need to eat 2,900 calories a day to maintain 280 lbs. If you are eating 1000 calories a day you it would be pretty hard not to lose weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Drinking

I'm an administrator at the hospital so I think I can get their attention. I recommend that people who are given misinformation by medical staff report it to who ever sets policy. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Loosing super slow

Did you walk 3-5 miles a day before the surgery? If you are walking 3-5 miles a day you are putting on muscle and muscle weights more than fat. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Drinking

There was a great deal of sleeve stretching talk in my pre op classes as well. It didn't occurred to me till just now that this is misinformation and I'm going to mention it to the program coordinator. I suggest that others who were told this at their programs do the same. Daily Sugar/Carb Intake

It makes sense that you would have a high Protein diet post op for healing. think some of the reason for the 3:1 or even 4:1 protein carb ratio in the recommended diets is that so many WLS patients are diabetic. To accommodate my Bell's palsy diet I had to increase my carb intake. Carbs are ~3 calories a gram so it didn't increase my calories much. I doubt it slowed my weight lose much, if at all. Realistically, it takes about 3,000 calorie a day to maintain a 290 pounds body. If you are how eating 500-900 calories a day it would be impossible not to lose fat. Pet peeve: extra skin.

It's amazing to me how people assume that every comment is directed at them personally or expect that every thread here is started to support and encourage them. I stopped thinking the world evolved around me years ago. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. I don't know why that posted before I was finished. I originally mis read and thought you were two days post op and intended to delete. i Check the painful area for swelling, discharge or heat. Take you temperature. Call the surgeon right away if you have a fever, swelling or discharge. Try an ice pack. You can call the surgeon 24/7 someone will be on call to evaluate you.
