  1. Well for being just 48 hours post op, I'd say that you are doing very well. I know I stayed in bed pretty much for the first 2-3 days watching Movies and sleeping, of course I did walk when I was suppose to. Didn't want to get a blood clot LOL. I guess that's just the nurse in me LOL. I was just so glad to be off work that I took advantage of it like a vacation. Good Luck with your journey. As far as "bandster Hell" I guess I haven't experienced this, I like the fact that I can still eat without getting sick, so if I go out to eat, I can still enjoy most foods only in smaller portions. I thought that was the point of the band. I still don't eat bread and soda. I tried to eat a breadstick when we went to the Olive Garden, but was so damn scared it was going to get stuck that I freaked out and stopped eating it LOL. Veronica

    Denied, and Looking for Support

I say don't give up!!!!!! Insurance companies are total jerks when it comes to this type of surgery. Thankfully mine was easy, I had a answer in 30 days, and no pre op funny stuff. And get this I work for a temp agency LOL. Anways, have you MD help you and write them a letter stating what you have just told us. That all the medication and CPAP machine in the long run will cost more than the surgery not to mention the upcoming problem with being obese. Be persistent and even pushy, insurance coverage is your right if you pay the premiums and their policy says they cover weight loss surgery. They want to make you jump through all these hoops with hope that you will give up. I have read that some people gained weight just to make the cut off for the insurance to cover their procedure. Think about that one, that crazy obese people gaining weight just so they can qualify for weight loss surgery. WOW I would be bugging the crap out of the insurance company if I were you, I might write a letter a week, and call them everyday. LOL But that just me. Good Luck and keep us posted Veronica

  4. Oh yes, I planned on going to the appointment tomorrow, I just wanted some input on whether other people experienced this. My biggest fear is to get filled and then in return get sick and stuck and feel like crap, but I will talk to my MD and Dietician tomorrow. Thanks for your input Veronica

    Got a date!

No I haven't heard of them, but how would I LOL I'm from Wisconsin, but I just wanted to drop you a Congrads, and best of Luck with you upcoming life transformation, it is the best thing I have done for myself, I wish I would have done it years ago. I am 6 weeks out and feel great. Once again Welcome and good luck Veronica
  6. I am 6 weeks out, and I really only felt so tired the first 3 weeks, after my body figured out how to use fat for energy I have been bouncing off the walls for a few weeks now. I have more energy when I am buring fat. I know that this is what is occuring because when I was on the Atkins diet the same energy was there once my body was in ketosis. I am sometime eating 500-700 calories a day and feel like running a marathon after work a 12 hour night shift in a busy ICU. So it will come, someone posted earlier about the "hibernation phase" our bodies go into, I did experience this also, I was at a weight loss stall for about 2 weeks, and felt like I did all this for 20 lbs and to feel like this, but it does get better. Keep pushing the end result is so sweet Veronica
  7. I told my parents, and most of my friends, some co workers and etc. I heard this alot "why are you going to do that, espicially from my friends. I told them because look at me I am a heffer, then they didn't say anything LOL, I really don't care what people think, it is no different than me going in to get a nose job, it is my decision, and no one elses. Veronica
  8. I like the GNC 100% whey Protein powder, I have tried chocolate, vanilla and banana cream, there are 20 grams of protein in one shake, you can mix it with either skim milk or Water, I do the skim milk and then each shake equals 29 grams of protein, they don't taste too bad, but after drinking them for 6 weeks, I am getting sick of them, but I still have one a day sometimes two, I am 6 week post op and still having a hard time eating enough food to equal enough protein I need in a day, I am scheduled for a fill on Friday, which I may post pone related to me not being able to eat much already, I don't want to start getting sick, any suggestions??? Psyc evaluations

My psych eval was stupid, I see others saw it as benificial but I thought it was a waste of $1,000 I had to pay because my insurance didn't cover baratric psych consults, but like others said I saw the MD for about 10 minutes, then he put me in this room with 2 different tests, one was the one where they ask you the same questions over and over, it was the dumbest thing ever. The other test asked about food addictions that we all know we already have because we all our obese, they wanted me to follow up with the psych MD after surgery, but I skipped that appointment, didn't want to pay out of pocket again, but I know I had to do it to get my band, and I love my band so I should stop whinning LOL Veronica
  10. I am 5 weeks post op and I have coffee all the time, I don't over do it though, couple cup a day Veronica

    Just gotta vent

Michelle, I am so sorry that you are feeling this way, I got banded real close to you on 08/21/08, and the weight loss is slow. I initially lost 15 lbs, and then had a huge stall for about 3 weeks, no more pounds gone, but after 3 weeks it started coming off again slowly. I haven't had a fill yet, my surgeon like to wait 6 weeks after surgery and I am scheduled on Friday for my first fill. I don't have much restriction, but I don't have an appetite either. I am still drink my Protein shake at least one a day and I eat those Protein Bars too. I was feeling very down when I was at my weight loss stall, I was thinking to myself I went through all this for 20 lbs, I am now down about 25 lbs, and I am finally understanding how slow this weight comes off. My question to you is have you lost any weight so far, it may be that you are in a stall, I felt very depressed after my surgery too, I just had to keep myself busy and try not to think about it. I was starting to think I was going to have to go back on my anti depressants, but I didn't want to so I sat it out and just kept busy. I am thinking you are at one of those terrible stalls, when the scale goes no where for weeks. It make us feel very bad, and triggers us for those comfort foods, and smokes. I would say don't give up yet, it is too early and you can do it, it is just a very slow weight lose. Good Luck to you Veronica

    snacking

Hello littlefroggy, We were banded close to the same day, and we are close as far as the weight lose, that is so cool. I snack too, I do follow the MD instructions but I have been snacking on high Protein Bars and I figure as long as the scale keep moving backward and I am not ready to eat my arm off, then I am doing pretty damn good LOL I think each of us just have to find what work for us. I too cannot eat much at a time and I haven't had a fill yet so I wonder what it will be like after that occurs next week, we will see. Veronica

Hello fellow Wisconsin friends! I am about 4 1/2 weeks post op, had my surgery in Stevens Point with Dr Selwyn, he was great. I am doing well so far, down about 24 lbs, after about a 2 week stall, getting a fill next week so am excited to see if that improves my hungry, usually I keep it in check LOL Looking forward to hearing from some other people in Wisconsin, I go to the local support group in Stevens Point. Wanting my band out :(

Don't give up so soon, I too felt depressed about a week post op and I was crying for no reason at all. It was probably related to the huge change I was experiencing and what was to come, trust me when you can eat some real food and not all the liquids you will feel better. It is so cool to eat and get full so fast and I am not even filled yet, you will see just hang in there and give it a chance. Veronica

    did everyone feel this

I am almost 5 weeks post op, and I have hunger yes, but I can eat and get full on very little food. I am scheduled for my first fill next week, which I may postpone at this point because I feel that I have good control with just my band. My doctor said that some people don't need fills for a while and some people don't need fills at all. I am losing 1-2 lbs a week and still drink two Protein shakes a day along with eating some Protein Bars in between my meals. I never feel sick and am able to tolerate everything that I have tried so far, of course it's been the foods I am allowed, mostly chicken, fish, eggs, and veggies. Veronica
  16. I have was banded on August 21, 2008, I have been stuck once. I was eating chicken and I guess it was too dry and I didn't chew it up well enough. Well soon after eating a few pieces I felt some mild discomfort, and I had the sliming going on, although I didn't PB, I felt like I was going to. I was able to stretch my arms above my head and it seemed to pass within a few minutes. I know to now put some type of gravy on my chicken, and chew it better. I was not filled at this point so I am assuming that it will be worse once I am filled Veronica
  17. I have the same problem when I am charting at a computer, I notice I too bump my incision allot, it not red or anything, so i would keep an eye on it Veronica
  18. Hey ever MD is different in the instructing that they want us to follow, I was banded on August 21st, and I was on clear the first day and for the follow 2 week it was full liquids, I had no problem following this because I had post op swelling, but after the two weeks I was allowed just about any soft food i could tolerate. if you have question talk with your surgeon,I would assume that if something happened you would have signs to let you know Veronica

    Not losing weight

I too am having a weight lossstall. I was banded August 21st, on my first 2 week post op appointmet I lost 19 lbs, I was thrilled of course, but since then no weight loss, I have stayed the same for 2 weeks. I hear allot about these stalls, I was started on mushies after 2 weeks, and I still take in a least 2 protien shakes a day. I hope this will pass, I was beginning to feel like a failure, and this wasn't going to work for me. I do not weigh myself everyday, because at this point I get to discouraged. I hope this will pass soon, I go in for a fill in 2 weeks, hopefully I will not have gained weight when I go see the MD again Veronica

    frequent hick-ups

I too get the hiccups more frequently after surgery. It is after I eat, and I am not sure if it has to do something with the air that I have swallowed. They don't hurt now, but they did the first few days post op, they are very annoying. And I used to drink Water to get rid of them but now you cannot drink after you meals so I sometimes hold my breath and they go away weird huh Veronica

    New band

I was banded August 21, so I am a liitle over 3 week out. Yes the left sided pain is unfortunely gas pains from them inflating your abdomen to do the laprascopic surgery, yes it hurts but it will subside after your body reabsorbs the gas. My stomach is always making noises, I am in the mushies stage, and I try to eat something about every 3 hours, I have 2 Protein shake a day, I could eat about 3 trust me. Veronica

    water weight

I am a liitle over 3 weeks post op, I initally lost 19 lbs at my 2 week post op appointment, but this week I have remained the same all week long just bouncing back and forth between the same 2-3 lbs, one day I will lose 2 lbs, and 2-3 days later I will gain them back it is very weird and frustrating, so I have stepped up my exercise which has just been walking at this point to see if that helps. I get my first fill the first week in October, so we'll see if that makes a difference. I count my calories and I take in between 500-1000/day. Veronica
  23. I was the first case on August 21st, I remember nothing after they put me on the operating table and told me to put my arms out to my sides. That was it I was out. I woke up in the recovery room, barely remember my MD telling me everything went well. Thankfully he talked to my mother LOL. I was taken to my room, and I really had no pain except for the incision pain and that was next to nothing. I left the hospital about 12:30pm after my mother wentto get my prescription filled. Half and hour drive home, I was pretty comfortable but then came the gas pains. Oh I hope you don't have them becuase they were horrible. The pain medication wouldn't touch them, I was in allot of pain and there was some nausea, although I never threw-up. I wondered if I would ever be able to drink normally because I could actually feel the swelling around my stomach. Just remember if you have gas pain to walk walk walk, I literally walked the entire first night and slept sitting up for about 1 1/2 hours only. After the gas was getting better I felt allot better, actually could sleep. Good Luck to you, it really isn't that bad, everyone is a bit different Veronica
  24. I was banded on August 21st, although I am only 3 weeks post op I have not PB yet, and I really don't want to. I know this is the number one reason that the band slippage occurs. Maybe you need to analyze how much you are eating, so you never get to that point of PBing, maybe you need a little unfill, just some suggestion but I would not recommend continuing what you are doing for you sake, don't want any complications. Veronica

    Hello

Hey Debbs, How cool we were banded the same day!! I too agree that the weight loss is slower for sure in the beginning but good things come to those who wait. My MD never tried to talk to me about the bypass, but I also told him that I wasn't finished having children, and he recommended that the Lapband would be the best for me. I am about 3 week post op and have lost about 20 lbs, I have kind of hit a stall, and have been trying to beef up my exercise program with hopes that the scale will start moving. We'll see, I now I have to be patient, and I am Veronica
