  1. Sleeved Oct 24th & have had few complications.... since day 2 post op, I am now severely anemic. Definitely have been trying to up my Protein intake to the recommended 60-65g daily. Have to avoid any unnecessary Hair loss & want to know how many mg of Biotin is recommended daily post surgery for bariatric patients? Also, if anything else worked for you, please pass info this way. Thnx

Please call your surgeon and make sure this isn't a complication. It could be just gas pains but could be a blood clot or leak too.
Hope you are feeling better & did call your surgeon. Positive vibes sent ur way

  3. Sleeved 10/25. I ended up in the ER yesterday having IV fluids because I was getting only half my fluids in. Feel like crap today. This is not going to plan.

Hi. I am sorry to hear you have been going through it. One day at a time. I was sleeved 10/24 & was hospitalized for 5 days. I had 2 get 4 blood transfusions because of internal bleeding and it scared me!! I realized I have to take everything a lot more seriously then I first thought... your experience help others so keep sharing on here. Please don't get discouraged!! Nothing great comes easy. Try drinking one ounce of Water every 10 min. Set a timer. It will get better.

  4. Hi. I was sleeved on Oct. 24th - had a few complications... and was finally sent home on the 30th. I was d/c on clear & full liquids. I thought soupy oatmeal would be ok to have the 1st night home since it was on my list.... but did my body yell at me!! So I had to go back to Clear Liquids for a little while longer. I have learned that even though it says one thing on a piece of paper, my body will let me know otherwise. Had lots of pain & learning how to take it easy for once & to listen to my body. I think it's a great idea to keep in contact since we are all around the same SX date. Best of luck to all of us on our journeys!!

  5. I can't speak to curves or anything like that, but I wanted to chime in address the myth that light weights/high reps will do anything other than increase endurance at light weight. I could type it all out again, but it's easier to just post a link to one of the infinite articles detailing why there is no such thing as "toning":

    http://www.bodybuilding.com/content/the-myth-of-toning.html

So to your point though; if you are wanting thick legs and glutes, there is only one thing you can do. Squats. Barbell, Kettlebell, or Dumbell... take your pick. But that is the defacto exercise for building all of the glutes and legs:

    squat-muscles.gif

Two things to point out in regards to that picture though. The high bar squat can only be done with very low weights or else you risk injury to the vertebra of the neck. You should have the bar on the traps, so if you aim for the low bar position in the beginning you will at least hit the correct high bar position or lower.

The second thing to point out is her face is pointing up and that is just begging for neck pain. Look down about 6-8 feet in front of you then drive the hips up and not forward. Common misconception.

Anyways, good luck developing the muscle/curves you want!

    Great info!!!

  6. I think Day 5 is too soon for food. Take it slow.

Yes I agree. I am supposed to be on clear & full liquids until 11/7... & I was finally feeling good so I decided that I would be brave & kick it up a notch & try the oatmeal. & it def did not agree with me. at. all.

I had to hit rewind... & realized I am def going to take it a lot slower than I thought. But I am OK with that lol thanks for the input

I tried to talk my NUT into pushing me up to puree a week early b/c i was so sick of liquid and was tolerating everything. she said that it's not about how well you're tolerating food but giving your stomach time to heal. i grudgingly waited another week, lol.

Exactly!!! When we think of it in that aspect, our entire outlook will change. I never realized how true the saying is - we are what we eat (& drink)! For once, I am going to stop trying to rush this process & stop trying to rush jumping into the next food phase & start learning how to listen to my body. Thanx for sharing that info!

  7. Hi. I am just hitting Week 1 post op Sleeve. Beginning to realize more and more how much effort must be focused on a daily basis to not fall into the downhill spiral of dehydration & Vitamin deficiency.

To keep it simple, I am really thinking of upgrading to patch MD Vitamin Patches starter pack. Has anyone tried them?? Are they effective enough for bariatric patients??

Just want to make sure that all daily vitamin requirements will be met no matter if it's administered via transdermal patch or taking them orally...

Appreciate some thoughts & input please & thank you.

  8. Hey. I wanted to meet some new people who has went on this journey as well and maybe have a support group because God knows I need one.

I had the surgery 3 years ago, the most I lost was 80 something lbs. I have gained weight back. I'm not sure what I weigh now, but depression and just a horrible look on life is back. I did get pregnant and gained some back then, and now I'm back in my dark hole where I was before. I go back to see my surgeon on the 17th. I am starting my diet that I was on right after surgery and hoping that sparks up something and my body is like oh yeah that's what we are suppose to be doing. Idk.

I am ready to try this again, and I'm so ready to see what my doctor says and has some input for me to do. Hopefully he slaps me and is like get it together or something lol. Idk but something has got to give I'm so ready to be active (which btw I never got the energy they talked about) but I think depression had a lot to do with that. But we will see!!

I am Rachel, 30 year old mama. My baby girl, cats and I live in Northeast, TN.

Hi, i am 6 days post op and am looking for a buddy. Maybe we can help each other out. Forget about how much was re-gained... Can't waste energy on pointless b.s. that we can't do anything about by because today is a new day & I am kicking my journey up a notch, so if you want it bad enough, message me back & let's get it!!

  9. Thank you so much for all the advice. It does give me some glimmer of hope to know I'm not the only one to go through this and with time it will hopefully get better. I spent the next day after surgery In Er as well I was dry heaving so bad I thought I ripped my guts out that was 2 days ago. Yesterday I fit a low grade fever all day and continued to drink Pedia lite to stay hydrated. Today no fever diluted the Pedia lite with Gatorade and all that seems to be going alot better. Just the nausea is sooooo bad if I could get that under control maybe I would be ok but as of now I'm super miserable and just praying for better days!

Better days are coming our way because we didn't get this far - to just get this far, right? If I was you, I would be getting a script of the best anti-nausea meds that your team can call in for you to your pharmacy. Hope it gets better soon!! I am still having this aching throbbing feeling in mid adbdomen since 4 a.m. We gotta have it a little more comfortable than this for us though lol

  10. Sleeved 10/24. Full liquids until 11/7 and need ideas please. I want to be able to meal prep even this early on so that it becomes a habit. Decided this after a not so pleasant episode with oatmeal yesterday... that for once, I am not going to rush this and I need to let my body heal and just start fresh... Any ideas to help get over 65g Protein a day would really be appreciated! Thanks

I am encouraging you to stick to your plan. Being brave after most of your stomach has been removed is not a good thing. Your stomach is healing and the least work it has to do to digest what you feed it is best. You can put yourself in danger for a leak or infection. Go slow and it will all come together eventually.
Exactly! I realized I was not as prepared as I should have been post sleeve. It's been 2 days & even though On my release paperwork from nutritionist it stated soupy oatmeal... I was in for a rude awakening. Today I made it a point to follow the liquid diet to the max. Decided that I am going to invest in some products on this site for the liquid diet & just take it slow!!

  13. Hi. Sorry to hear you are going through it... after what I just went through, I have to share.. I am on post op sleeve day 6 & was miserable for the first 3 days. I couldn't even open my mouth or eyes without dry heaving... hard. ugh. I had to have IV fluids w/ 2 anti-nausea meds & a patch behind my ear & wet wash cloths on my forehead to make me not want to puke. I was hospitalized for 5 days because after they did a CBC on me (& from what I remember,) I was told my hematocrit & hemoglobin levels were so low that I needed blood transfusions. I wasn't making enough red blood cells & to function and was experiencing severe anemia. Best advice I can give to you - is if it continues, go back to hospital ASAP. Positive vibes def sent your way.
