Gained weight at hospital for surgery...?

This is very common. Most likely they gave you steroids while in the hospital which will cause you to retain water weight amoung other things. This type of weight gain should reverse itself very quickly. Congrats on the surgery, and don't spend too much time on the scale the first month post-op as your body will be recovering!

    Numbness?

Doesn't necessarily mean they cut a nerve, but they could have damaged it. I had that with one of my surgeries and it took a year to get feeling back around the incision.

    Watermelon

So funny all the things we all crave after surgery. This is a question best answered by your doctor, but there are a few things you should know: Watermelon is one of the highest glycemic index fruits with a GI for one cup being a 72. For comparison's sake, a 12oz can of coke is a 63. So be careful. If you have been on a very low carb diet, expect your blood sugar to spike and crash causing you a headache and/or a trip to the bathroom. Please note this is not meant to say don't have Watermelon, I am just making you aware of what possible effects it may have on you. Either way though, congrats on the amount of weight you have lost!!

    Last Nutrition Consult

Being super nervous is quite normal. So congrats on being normal!! You will most likely go through a roller-coaster of emotions during your journey, but just keep in mind the end goal and do whatever it takes to reach it. Best of luck with everything!!

My surgery will be next week

Almost everyone feels this way at some point before surgery, especially if they have never had it before. So your actions are very, very normal. Try to focus on other things, and realize there are millions of people who have gone through this surgery and are perfectly fine and healthy!

I miss feeling satisfied by food

This is so true. I am very fond of telling everyone that my new normal now feels as comfortable as my old normal did. But those first 2 months I felt the same was as you did.

Yaaaaay! Not much feels better than hitting those goals!!

    WLS and Singing?

I would say unless you have complications, you will probably be pretty pain-free. Energy-wise, I would not have wanted to stand for a lengthy period of time in the first month. I was exhausted non-stop. Month 2 was much better.
  11. Seems like a legit amount of weight loss to me. I had surgery 2 weeks prior to you and have lost 92 pounds, but was 25 over pounds heavier on my surgery date than you. Just keep up the good work!!

    Itchy!!!

Probably due to hydration. I was itchy on my front and back for the first couple weeks until I could start getting in 64+ oz of fluid.

Losing support from a loved one

I'd communicate those feelings to the loved one.

    Going!

You can definitely do it!! I found that when I stray it never tastes as good in reality as it did in my head. This allows me to rationally decide not to eat garbage food.

July 17th Surgery! How much time off work?

That's such a tough thing to answer, and really only you will know when you are good to go back to work. Many people go back in a week or less. I took off three weeks, felt fine after the first 7 days and almost went back to work, only to have fatigue hit me like a brick the second week. I just wanted to share with you because I thought I was all set after 7 days, and was not.

    Not losing after gastric sleeve?

I see. I don't approve of the doctor saying that two weeks out but whatever. If you are following the guidelines you stated, then you will most definitely start losing weight. Could be your salt intake is causing you to retaining water, or could be some type of meds you are on, either way I would not worry about it at this point in your journey.

    Not losing after gastric sleeve?

My advice is to stay off the scale for the first month post-op. Your body will be going through all kinds of changes and thus the first month is very hard to make any claims one way or the other regarding weight loss.

    Post-Op DIet Phases

My interpretation is week 2 starts 1 week after your surgery.

Best of luck. Enjoy the meds!!

Sleeve TOMORROW 6/28. Good vibes please!

I wish you all the best!! Most people go through a food mourning phase either before or after the surgery. Yes you can have those foods in the future, but mentally you should not count on it as in something like 'I only have 6 months then I can eat crappy again'. That will lead to failure, and so I throw that out as a warning. I can tell you my new eating style has become as comfortable as my old eating style, so with time it will get much more comfortable to only eat healthy foods instead of garbage.

Tell your Dr. exactly what you just said.

    Day 1 After surgery

Yup, first few days after surgery are the worst! It does get better.

    How do you know?

    How do you know?

I still associate 'full' with jamming so much food in that I can't eat any more. Thus I never worry about feeling full. I have pre-measured amounts of food I eat, then I am done. This way I never worry about being 'full'. When I am done, I stop eating regardless of if I am still hungry.
