Has anyone had any form of the DS surgery in Toronto, Canada?!
Odie replied to k95's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I had my RNY in Montreal. I am from Quebec though and our Health Insurance pays for it. I went to Toronto at the start for a LapBand but the place was scary and I was relieved when they said I wouldn't make it off the table!! I've lost 120 pounds. -
If this has been asked before, I can't find it and I know this is Rant and Rave but I have a question. I'm 2?12 years out from RNY and recently regained 8 pounds so I'm correcting that. Problem is that I had a hiatal hernia which they fixed at the same time. Just started drinking my water, like I was supposed to, but it hurts and gives me heartburn. Nothing else does. Any help?

Funny, calling the status column "Rant and Rave." It often seems that way, doesn't it?

Pouch Reset Attempt for 4.5 years post-sleeve
Odie replied to fesenjoon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I regained 8 pounds lately so went back to the basics cause I'm only going backwards kicking and screaming!! I never did drink a lot of Water after my surgery 2 1/2 years ago but I am now. Problem is, I had a large hiatal hernia which they repaired at the same time. I can drink anything, but water hurts and leaves me with heartburn!! Anyone else have this problem? -

Can't tolerate chewable vitamins
Odie replied to Torressl1234's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I started taking all my vitamins in pill form the day after my surgery! -
I had gastric bypass in May 2014 and I have lost 120 lbs. I just turned 64 in October. A month before my scheduled bypass surgery, I fell and shattered my wrist requiring surgery. I have been dealing with very low energy, fatigue and aching legs ever since my surgery and my regular doctor had told me that it was because I had 2 surgeries so close together. I've only seen my bariatric surgeon once when I had my first meeting to see if I qualified for surgery, once in the operating room, once 6 months after my surgery. He is 4 hours away from me. I take all my Vitamins and then some!! I have been using Protein shakes and also a Gelatin drink. Has anyone else had this problem?
-
I had a full gastric bypass and though I had some discomfort right after the surgery, I didn't find it too bad. I think it depends on your pain tolerance. I tend to have a high tolerance, but don't worry, you're probably dealing with muscle spasms in the surgery areas. It was so much better the day after surgery and I only had to spend one night in the hospital. Within a couple of days, I didn't even need the small amount of morphine they gave me to go home with. It's all going to be worth it!!

What kind of surgery did you have?
-
No coffee means migraines for me!! I had coffee right up to the day of my surgery, with permission cause of how bad my migraines get! I will try cutting back though and drink some herbal tea instead and see if that makes a difference, thank you everyone!!
-
I DO drink a lot of coffee!! My legs don't twitch though, just a constant ache and weak feeling within the legs. I am due for my blood tests, so maybe this time something will show up. I kinda hope something does show up and then can be dealt with!!
-
I do have the list of blood tests from my surgeon and have this done by my family doctor every year but everything is fine. My legs ache constantly while sitting or lying down. In a way, I was hoping that someone else had this problem and had an answer why or how it was fixed! I sleep approximately 7 to 8 hours a night but usually have to have a nap most days. I'm trying out the Protein shakes now and Great Lakes Gelatin but thought maybe some on this site has a favourite shake that is better than some.

What's everyone's weightless so far?
Odie replied to BonitaMamiixo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You sound like me!! 5 months after surgery I was only down about 25 pounds but then it kind of just fell off of me. I am 2 and a half years out and have lost 120 pounds! Don't worry, it will come off unless your are sucking back calories in milkshakes, ice cream etc! -
Emotional Wreck & Struggeling
Odie replied to GACaldwell's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Having suffered with depression since I was 15, I can safely say this is why you have stalled. Also some of your medications may have an impact on that. When depressed, your body only knows you are ill, and will cope and try to help you by slowing your metabolism. This usually results in weight gain but because you had surgery, is instead, storing your calories. Enjoy what you have lost thus far and when your mood lightens, and it will, the weight will come off!! -
I'm from Quebec, Canada!

I'm so glad someone else said this!! I am 2 1/2 years post op with a full bypass. My doctor, nutritionist etc gave me a diet to follow for about 12 weeks and then told me I could eat "normal" food!! They did warn me that soft, high calorie food would cause me to regain some weight. I stay away from that but otherwise eat anything and everything I want! I physically can't eat too much. I am 5 pounds short of my goal weight but have lost more than the goal the doctor gave me. Maybe it is different in Canada? Also our surgeries are covered by our Health Care Plan.

Mourning the loss of 'Favorites'?
Odie replied to customademe's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm so jealous! They will not cover that here. I have so many foods that make me sick. Did you experience that in the first year? Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App That's Canada and our Health Plan!! I don't vomit easily so the only time I felt sick is when I ate too much food!! Since surgery I am lactose intolerant but I didn't realize that for a good bit. I love the fat on meats but I have to be careful now and usually just have one or two bites!! Sweets give me dumping problems. I used to love salty foods but cannot tolerate them now and don't even enjoy them! -
Mourning the loss of 'Favorites'?

I read all the time where people are really stringent about their diet after surgery and I just know that I would not be able to maintain that sort of lifestyle!! So I eat as normally as possible but only eat until I feel full, no matter how tasty something is!! lol I don't go to buffet's anymore because that would be a complete waste of money! I have no energy though and I am going to start walking as I have read, and heard, that getting more active will give me more energy! I'm also lucky in that, which the exception of my boobs, I don't have a lot of loose skin. In the province where I live, the government will pay for a patient who has lost over 100 pounds to have cosmetic surgery to get rid of the loose and excess skin. That does not apply to boobs though!! lol -
Mourning the loss of 'Favorites'?

I am 2 years post surgery and have lost a total of 120 pounds. I don't overeat at all but do enjoy a bit of everything I love. Instead of a whole pizza, I now enjoy one slice!! Instead of 3 hamburgers I enjoy 1!! Was your comment about not learning a lesson meant for me?? I don't drink pop, I don't eat a lot of sweets and I don't overindulge!! Lesson learned!! -
Mourning the loss of 'Favorites'?
Odie replied to customademe's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I may be different than most people. I eat whatever I want but in smaller quantities. I discovered I am lactose intolerant since my bypass, so I have given up ice cream but still use cream in my coffee. Also still use sour cream, eat cheese etc and put up with the gas or take an over the counter pill to deal with the lactose. It took me a year and a half to lose the weight but I also don't exercise!! If I decide to lose that extra 10 pounds then the exercise will give me the boost I need!! I had the surgery to improve my life and giving up all foods I enjoy is not quality of life as far as I am concerned. If I could stay away from all the foods that I love, then I would not have needed surgery!! My type 2 diabetes is gone and my cholesterol and blood pressure is now normal. I am 64 years old and am happy with my results and the 120 pounds I have lost so far! -
I just turned 64 in October and had my surgery 2 years ago. I had been slim most of my life but started gaining weight when I was about 50 years old. I have lost about 120 lbs and my Type 2 diabetes is gone, my blood pressure and cholesterol are normal and I look 50!! I had unexpected surgery about a month before my scheduled bypass surgery and having 2 surgeries so close together did a number on my energy but I also don't exercise enough!! Tell your mom she won't regret it!! Do it and enjoy her life!!

Slowing weight loss on purpose?
Odie replied to RJrocks's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been so lucky, in that I did seem to lose hair for a few months after surgery but that stopped and 2 years later, has never returned. I have lost about 110 pounds and the only loose skin is my boobs!! However, I am 64 years old and was always a DD so this might just be age related!! My problem is aching legs and lack of energy. -
I had a full gastric bypass and got a coffee as soon as I left the hospital and was on my way home. I also get migraines if I don't have coffee. I have continued to drink coffee every day. I have never used sugar but continue to use cream. I just started out sipping slowly and not gulping and made sure it was not too hot.

Older people having weight loss surgery?
Odie replied to marshill's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I turned 64 on October 17th. I had my surgery in 2014 but have no energy and my legs ache constantly, especially when sitting or laying down. Did you have this problem at all? The good news is that my blood pressure is now normal, my diabetes is gone and they fixed my hernia at the same time! I am lactose intolerant now though.
