Thanks Lori - I will!! I love this site!! Everyone is so nice and helpful! I have a surgery date of October 30. I am hoping that I am feeling ok for Halloween the next day! I'm not planning on doing anything major - just going to my sister in laws so my son can go trick or treating with my neices. I should be able to do that, right?? I am starting my liquid diet friday. Are there any driving restrictions after the surgery?
Thanks!

:smile2: Until October 1, I had Cofinity PPOM insurance through my employer. With Cofinity, I needed to be on a 12 month program monitored by a doctor. We changed to BC/BS, which only require 6 months!!! This worked out BEAUTIFULLY considering I had reached my 6 months in September!! So now I have an October 30th surgery date!!!! I was so exited the day I found out, I cried!! I am having my surgery done at Beaumont by Dr. Krause. So far, I am extremely happy with him, his staff and everyone at the Weight Loss Center.

Go Doug!!! That is great!! What do you think of Dr. Hawalsi?? I live in Sterling Heights, and had my consultation with Dr. Krause - Beaumont about a month ago. I waiting to hear back from my insurance company, so I will HOPEFULLY be setting a surgery date soon!!! Keep up the good work!!!

I too have only told a few close friends and family about my plan for surgery. But when it comes time to actually do it, I don't think there will be anyway to avoid telling the people I work with (A bunch of nosy, skinny women!!) I have almost all of my appts out of the way and am hoping to have a surgery date by the end of next month. I will have to take a sick leave, which will bring lots of questions from my co-workers, and I'm not quite sure how I can avoid telling them about it without lying to them. Any ideas ????

That is great - good for you!!! I have my medical evaluation followup and psych eval appts next week, I am hoping to have a surgery date for the beginning of May sometime. I get more nervous/excited everytime I get one of my appts out of the way!! Keep us posted with how the Optifast goes!

I will!! Thank you! Did I read in one of your other posts that you swim at the Warren Community Center? If it is you, do they have alot of Water aerobic classes offered? They have a really cool water park that I want to take my son to once I start losing weight, and can feel confortable in a bathing suit in public!! He will love it!!

Thanks Lori!! I am both excited and nervous at the same time!! You look like you are doing great since you got your band! Congrats!!

Why did you switch to Dr. Krause from Dr. Deol? I am going thru all of my pre-op appts, and will have my surgery done by Dr. Krause.

Oh, that is soooooo wrong!! All of the studies that have come out have showed that at the 2 year point the weight loss is the same for the two different procedures! That is also the point that many bi-pass patients begin to regain their weight! Look at how many are having banding over bi-pass!The one big thing that sold it for me is that bi-pass gives you malabsorption problems. You have to take supplements for the rest of your life.
With banding, there is no such problem since your digestive system functions normally.
Thanks Jena!!! That makes me feel much better. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of the bi-pass at all. I suppose if we went back to eatting calorie dense foods and don't get some activity in our lives, it would come back with either procedure. I feel confident that the band is the best choice for me, and it will change my life for the better!!

I am in the same boat you are. I had my mind made up that I was going to go for the lapband. But I went for my medical evaluation last week, and the Dr. told me that I too would be a better candidate for the gastric bypass. I am 5'6 and have about 120 lbs. to lose. He said that I would lose some with the band, but would be more successful in the long run with the bypass surgery. In the end, it is MY decision, and I do not feel comfortable at all with the idea of having the gastric bypass. I'm not looking for the lapband to be the "solution" to me getting thin, but as a tool to help me get there. I will hopefully lose a decent amount initially, making it easier for me to be physically active and can exercise more to lose more weight!

I want to be able to buy cute little t shirts to wear with jeans, instead of long ones....... I want to be able to take my 2 1/2yr old son to the waterpark and let him have fun, instead of saying "maybe next year" because I'm too self conscious to put on a bathing suit in front of everyone. I want to have my sex life back and feel comfortable in front of my husband naked!!
I can't wait to get banded so I can start living life!!!!

Hi Sil
Have you contacted your insurance company to see what else they require, in addition to the 6 months? Mine required the stress test, EKG and a psych evaluation (that was an extra $200 out of pocket).
Good luck on getting your surgery date soon! I just had mine on Thursday Oct 30 - so far so good!
