  1. You know what? I was just thinking about this very subject. I guess now that I am thinner I now notice people who are overweight. It doesn't disgust me or anything. I don't feel bad for them and I sure don't think that I am better than they are. I guess I just now notice that they are there. I was almost 50 when I had the RNY surgery last October and I wonder everyday why I waited so long. Just my $ .02.
  2. OK, call me dumb but all I got was, "Blah blah blah, blah, Ginger." LOL

    How often do you weigh

I used to weigh myself everyday but that was driving me crazy (didn't really need to drive, should have just walked it) so now I weigh myself on Monday mornings only. After the Mrs. leaves for work I use the bathroom, strip down and weigh myself.

    Anyone ketogenic?

  5. I have replace emotional eating with emotional walking. Whenever I start getting stressed out and look for something to eat I stop and go for a walk. The length of the walk depends on the length of the urge to eat. I am almost 7 months post op RNY and so far it has worked.

    On The Road Again...

What a great reminder for those of us that haven't traveled in awhile.
  7. I am so sorry to have read this. It is a shame that it had to happen like this. You seem to be a pretty strong woman and you will find someone who will treat you like you deserve to be treated. I am sending you prayers and the best wishes that I possibly can. Stay strong.
  8. Has anyone had surgery to stop your coccyx (tail bone from hurting)? I bought a coccyx cushion for my car and I see a chiropractor once a month for adjustments but it only helps for a little while.
  9. If someone sees you everyday they may not really notice the weight loss. People at work don't say anything to me about it. However if I see one of my friends from the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) who hasn't seen me in months they will say something (after they finally recognize who I am).

    Not gas a leak

WOW! Sorry that happened to you. I am however happy that you were smart enough to call your surgeon and he told you to go to the ER. Prayers being sent your way. Try to keep a positive attitude.

    MEH

So I just received a phone call from my primary at the VA hospital wanting me to start taking Lipitor again (I stopped taking it the day before my surgery almost 7 months ago) because even though my blood sugar looks great I am still a "DIABETIC". I had blood word done last month and according to my A1C number I am a pre-diabetic. I have lost almost 100 pounds, am at a healthy BMI and on a low dose of Metformin. Her telling me that was almost like getting kicked in the you know where. What a great stat to the day. Oh well, I guess I need to build a bridge and get over it. Pity party is now over, please continue on with your day.

    Can you eat watermelon

Being a pouch I will not eat watermelon just because it has too much sugar. I don't want to dump after eating it. I would say that you can eat anything. Should you? NO.

    MEH

The thing that really made me upset is the whole, "You are still a diabetic." I know my A1C says I am a pre-diabetic but damn. I went from 1500 mg metformin and two different types of insulin a day to 250 mg of Metformin twice a day.

    Question re: why insurance deny

Same here. My BMI was 35 but with the high BP, the high cholesterol, sleep apnea and diabetes I was approved the first go around.

    Stomach cramps

If it was me I would be talking to my surgeon (or maybe my primary) about this. I hope it is nothing major and you get it worked out very soon.

    Weak moments?

I started walking after my WLS and it helps. I walk if I get hungry or if I get upset or I cant stand anyone at work or whatever. Not only does it help make me healthier but it helps take my mind off from things.

Woohoo! No stress test or EKG

    That is fantastic.

    Portion/Bariatric Plates

I have heard a lot of people buy the baby forks and spoons so that they take smaller bites.

    1 week!

Congratulations! Just try to keep a positive attitude. For me it was the best thing I ever did for myself. It will get frustrating however you just need to keep your eye on the prize. Also, don't judge your weight loss against anyone else but yourself.
  20. I work for the DoD and we have small stores in our buildings that are run by the Council for the Blind. Now, only one of the stores is run by someone blind. All the others are run by individuals that are almost blind. Well, I was told by one of the guys that I look sickly, sunken face and that I need to gain weight. This was about a month after WLS. I was like WOW!

    Surgery

It depends on your weight and if you have other weight related issues. Based off my BMI (it was 35) I was not eligible for WLS. However, I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type II diabetes and sleep apnea. The only thing I regret is that I didn't have my RNY surgery sooner. The woman that gave birth to me had the same issues as me when she dropped dead. They didn't find her body until three days after she died. She died in her own home. Based on that it was a no brainer for me.

    HAPPY FRIDAY!

LOL! I get the same way. I am constantly looking to see if anyone is around me. You never know if it will be silent of loud. LOL

    HAPPY FRIDAY!

Just saw this on FB and it made me laugh.
  25. Well tomorrow will be my 6 moth anniversary since my RNY surgery. I have my 6 month surgeon check up on Monday. I am excited to see what he has to say. On my home scale I am 6 pounds from the surgeons goal weight for me. Also, my surgeons office does a thing called Baripals that pairs up someone at least 6 month post op with someone who doesn't have a good support group to help them through the preop through post op processes. I now officially have two Baripals to help.
