    One year Surgiversary!

Very true. BTW, you look great. Keep it up.

    Surgery was the EASY part

The more time that goes by the easier it gets. I am not going to lie, it sucks the first few months, but then you get used to it and you know what you need to do. Keep up the great work, your weight loss surgery family (us) are here to help and give you the extra support that you need.

    Pain

Like GassyGurl said, "Walk, walk and walk." I am almost a year postop and I remember the pain but I don't remember what it felt like. It does get better (I promise) just give it some time. We all heal at different rates, we all lose weight at different rates and we all get to our weight loss goals at different rates. You always have us (your weight loss family) to help answer questions and to give you the support that you may need.
  4. I used to be really active of here, but like you said there has been a lot of negativity. There was a mass exodus a few months back because some of the "senior" members got upset over something that Alex did. Things did settle down a little but then started up again. I try to stay positive in my posts here. Give it a chance. There are some great positive people that are willing to help and give you encouragement. I found this site just before my surgery. Next month will be 1 year post op RNY for me. For me, the good here outweighs the negativity.
  5. I didn't setup a goal, my surgeon just told me, "This is the weight I would like you at." No fuss, no mess. LOL. Look up on the BMI scale and see where you "should" be. You should be happy with where you end up (your goal). Don't listen to others when they tell you that you have lost too much weight or that you need to eat more or that this whole 7 layer chocolate cake won't hurt you. Most of all I would recommend talking to your surgeon or your primary doctor as to where you should be. Good luck to you, even though the weight loss journey is yours, don't forget that you will always have support here with us (your WLS family).

    All SIPS'ed up

Every day that goes by you will feel better and get stronger. I am almost a year post op and I can remember the pain but I can't remember what it felt like. Be grateful for the gift (tool) that you have been given and make the most of it.

    One year Surgiversary!

Congratulations! My one year will be in October. I can not believe how fast the time has gone. I still do not recognize the person looking back at me in the mirror and still find it hard to take the snide comments (like you need to eat a cheeseburger, you have lost enough weight or my all time favorite, "You don't have AIDS do you?"). Keep up the great work and be proud of what you have accomplished.

    First 5K walk completed

My wife and I completed our first official 5K walk on Sunday. We completed it in 56 minutes 38 seconds. I could have run it but my wife thinks she cant run so I walked it with her. It was fun and I am sure that we will do it again in the future.
  9. Before I had my RNY I would drink about 20 diet pops a day. I would drink Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Coke Zero, Pepsi Max and Cola Zero (Kroger brand pop). I am almost a year post op and have not had one. I have never even thought about having one. I was able to get that monkey off my back and I don't want it getting back on there. We are all adults on this site. If you want to drink pop, drink pop. If you want to eat an entire 7 layer chocolate cake then by all means do so. Everyone's weight loss journey is there own. You decide your own fate. You have the ability to sabotage yourself and you and you alone have the ability to make to correct decisions. Just my $.02. Phil

    Weighing Food

Does anyone weigh and/or measure their food? I don't, I eat until I decide that it is probably enough, then stop. I have lost almost 91 pounds.
  11. I hate to say it but I am to the point where I just want everyone to leave me alone. I know what I need to do, I know how I want to look and I know (with my surgeons help) what is best for me. I appreciate that people are concerned, curious or whatever, but the comments get real old real quick. I think what really did me in was when one person said, Its not AIDS is it? I thought we all learned in Kindergarten to keep our hands and feet to our selves and if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything.
  12. They always have something to say. One of the ones that I hear all the time is "eat a cheeseburger why don't you?" I also get tired of people asking me for "diet" help for them.

    C25K

Started using the C25K app from Zennlabs. I did really good. It didn't seem to be too hard.

    VA Sleep Center Doctor

I had a post op sleep study 3 weeks ago today and still have not heard anything about how the study went. I private messaged him (that is how you communicate with VA doctors) and was told the doctor reviewed my sleep study and will be getting with me shortly (that was last Thursday). I am starting to rethink my using the VA for everything (just did it so all my doctors are in the same place and it makes it easier for them to share records) and going back to using non-VA doctors (when I used them I was able to get results and appointments pretty easy). I mean I know they are busy doctors but come on, 3 weeks is a little extreme while waiting for results.

    Colonoscopy

I had a colonoscopy a couple of years ago (I had IBS) before I turned 50. Everything came back fine. My wife just had one last week and I had forgotten how much of the prep liquid and water you have to drink (and the amount of time you have to drink it in). Has anyone had a colonoscopy after having RYN? Do they cut down on the amount of prep liquid that you have to drink? I have like 6 or 7 years left before I need to have it done again and I was just curious.

    Do I Smell Different?

I have never heard of that before. Interesting.

being happy to be alive - enjoy - btw - i love you too;) - kathy

  19. It happens to the best of us. I was written up at work for an outburst of anger that came out of nowhere. It does get better. It took about 3 moths post op before I was able to be my old self.

    Regrets, anyone?

It is the first year after surgery. It is easier to lose weight during that period.

    No support

My surgeon's office has a support group for WLS patients that meets the 4th Tuesday of the month. See if your surgeon's office has one and if you and your mother can attend the meetings. I wish I would have gone before my WLS but I didn't know about it. My first support group was 5 days post op and I haven't missed one in the almost 9 months since my surgery. Ignorance and fear make people do and say things that they shouldn't. After my dad found out I had the surgery the first thing he said was, "I didn't think you were that big." Now, just last week, he asked me if I was done losing weight. I told him yes. He then said, "Well, you will just put that weight back on again." My dad is almost 82 and thinks that everything he reads on the internet is true. Good luck with your mom. We are all here to help and support you the best we can.
  22. I guess that I forgot to post after my surgery. Here I am almost 9 months out, 100 pounds down and I have passed my surgeon's weight loss goal. I am doing great and feeling fantastic. I had no pain meds either in or out of the hospital. The only issue that I had is that I ended up in the ER the day after my birthday because I hadn't had a BM in a week. Turns out it was an enlarged prostrate (who'd of thunk it). Anyways, I can eat what I want (nothing disagrees with me)(meaning what I am supposed to eat), rejoined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Michigan State Honor Guard and love the new me.
  23. I am scheduled to have my surgery on 20 October 2016 at St. Mary Mercy in Livonia, MI. So far, Dr. Roberts and his staff have been fantastic. I will post here again once I have the RNY surgery.

    A couple tough days

Sorry to hear you have strep. On a positive note strep is better to have than an infection (or worse). I hope you kick the strep very fast.
