Well, it seems I can identify with DUB. I'm 6'3" 365 Lbs. Male. I start the pre-op liquid diet next week. I'm nervous as I see many are, but I'm determined to make it work. I'll turn 70 yrs. old this year so its really a last chance for me. My age coupled with my size has made it extremely difficult to do even the most most simple physical things that I've been used to doing most of my life. Finally got clearances from all my doctors to proceed. Had a coronary artery stent a year ago so that delayed me for a year. (no heart attack but close to it at the time) Anyway, glad to see that people are willing to share their stories here, especially you, Dub.

I was sleeved 10/5 and other than some pain with one incision, things have been going great. I am down 12 pounds, and preparing to return to work Monday 10/17. Once I return to solid foods, what can i expect as far as weight loss per week? My starting weight was 337, day of surgery weight 314 and current weight 302.
    The future looks bright!

Hang in there anyone that's scared and not yet been sleeved! It must be hard being in late Oct and reading all our scary posts. I had my op on the 5th so was one of the early ones. I also had my gallbladder out.
I wanted to reassure any scaredy cats like me out there as I was really terrified and dreading it.
I'm a week in and feel really good.
I only needed pain meds for the 1st few hours after coming round. I had terrible nausea but the nurse told me that the nausea could be from the morphine so we knocked it to 'on demand' and I was fine after that and have never needed pain meds since. So please bare that in mind if you are feeling nauseous and on morphine you may want to try asking for it on demand. I took meds for acid reflux for a few days but that seems fine to be now.
Attaching pic of one of my incisions as the steristrips just came off. It looks red but it's a small incision(Multivitamin for scale). No stitches and not sore. It can be scary when you see 7 ( in my case) bandages so I wanted to reassure you.
Hoping that those of you still to be done have such an easy recovery. Hugs and good luck X

Fascinating and very informative reading all the posts. My surgery is scheduled for October 26, which happens to be my birthday. My present to myself!
On the low-low-carb pre-op diet. Not as strict as some mentioned here. My doc recommends Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch, then a regular low-carb dinner. I'm allowed to snack in between as long as the overall daily carb total is 30-60 max. Not so difficult, but then I'm only on day #2!

You will definitely have a life changing experience. I was a big couch potato now I go to the gym 6 days a week at5am and biking on weekends for 2-3 hours. Surgery was the best decision I ever made. I was 350lbs now 200 solid . Definitely have more energy

I had surgery 5/29/15 but lost all my weight by thanksgiving the same year. Now I'm just maintaining

I don't think there is a right age or a wrong age. It's all relative. I had mine at 58, I also believe it saved my life. Pro's to having it younger however is your skin has a lot more elasticity and you have a much better option of it going back where it's supposed to rather than just emptying out and hanging there like empty balloons. Believe me there are a lot more places than you would think that will simply just hang there. You also will more than likely not have a wrinkled up face after losing weight like an older person will. I have wrinkles on my wrinkles. You will have so much more energy as a younger person and it will be really good when you start developing those healthy habits like exercise, hiking, riding or whatever you choose to do. It has been much harder for me to do those things as I get older and older making it a real effort to lose additional weight (even with the sleeve)..Good luck and keep up the great work

And just like that it hit me, this is really going to happen. I started this journey prior to my birthday 9/25 in 2015. Im using an insurance from a beneficiary pension from my mother who passed away in 1996. I omitted the insurance awhile back because it was cheaper thru my job. None the less the process to add it back takes 6 months waiting so i started the waiting process just to use the insurance on 10/1/2015....until 4/1/2016. Scheduled my consult on 4/1/2016 with the surgeon, in which of course he recommended me for gastric sleeve surgery. Was advised i needed 6 months of nutritional visits..Completed all paper work, psych eval, orientation, and fitness eval by 9/20th 5 days before my birthday. Paperwork submitted to insurance company on 9/29...Surgery date scheduled for 10/27/16...no preop appt. as of yet and i start my 2 week liquid diet on 10/13/16....READY, EXCITED, N NERVOUS!!

@@Recycled - dude it was either you or @BigViffer who mentioned the hormone dump and feeling weird and dealing with conflicting emotions and feeling like a wussy in the Guy's Room. On the other side of the coin, my sex drive went through the roof...the only thing I can liken it too was adolescence again at 52. However once I found that thread it all made sense...which is what this site is supposed to do. Once I figured out what was happening was I able to channel it constructively. However the sex was REALLY GREAT.
