  1. I was unable to take pain killers due to allergies to so many meds, and I had a terrible Issue with one incision. liquid Tylenol was my best friend and my doctor did change my dose.

I tried the binder, but it didn't help. Even my surgeon didn't recommend it. I then tried ice and heat. Some days one worked better than the other.

I wore leggings with a yoga band and they were more comfortable than any pants, including sweats. And, I walked! Every hour I was out walking for 15 minutes or so. That was the best thing I could have done to relieve the pain.

Best of luck figuring out what works for you. Just know, it gets better each day.

  2. I was sleeved in August and it took about 6 weeks fir me to get me energy back where I could do sustained exercise.

I now jog 3-4 miles every other day and do strength training 3 times a week with no problem.

My medication includes a Multivitamin in the morning and calcium citrate -- nothing more.

I avg about 800 calories a day but have increased my Protein since being on program. I work to get 60 grams minimally and usually get 90+ g a day. Days I don't get my Protein, my energy lags and I can't keep up. It was a learning process and everyone is different.

Before getting on program and having surgery, I was barely able to walk up a level of stairs without being out of breath and knees aching.

  3. I bought capris and shorts 4 weeks ago on sake for our March cruise. They are size 16 and I was thrilled because I was in 24W.

I tried them on this week to see how they fit -- mind you, they were really tight when I bought them. Well, now they are already looking baggy and we aren't cruising for 3 1/2 months! Today I just picked up a size 14 pair of white denim capris and they fit but are tight. I'm crossing my fingers they still fit by our cruise, but I can't predict anything anymore. And, I'm not complaining

  4. I was so disappointed at my first post-op appointment. It was 14 days and I had only lost 7 pounds.

I was told it is normal because of all the swelling and Fluid retention. They must have been right because suddenly I was dropping about 5 pounds a week. It has now slowed down to 1-2 pounds a week at 4 months post-op.

  5. My surgeon said this is common among those sleeved and can last up to a couple years. I am now almost 4 months out and still have this issue.

I've started to set an alarm to let me know it's time to eat because I'm never really hungry, but I know I have to get my Protein.

I make a high-Protein shake and drink that as I drive to work. I also have a shake that I split for my morning and afternoon snack. That hits my 60 g of Protein for the day in case I just can't/don't eat anything else.

I still can't eat certain things because of the taste, so I just pass on them. Maybe in a year I'll try again but not yet. Hang in there because everyone has told me it gets better.

  6. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury has a nice Protein chicken broth. Just make sure the Water is less than 140 degrees or it clumps. The warmth did better than cold.

However, I loved SF Popsicles and Jello as part of my fluids. They really helped.

You need to try out different types of Protein shakes. My NUT gave me samples of several when I was starting because I also wasn't able to keep some down. I also learned I couldn't drink a full shake. I'd make half and drink it slowly. That helped me not end up getting sick.

  7. I barely qualified with a BMI of 41 and no other issues. So many were shocked because I carried my weight well and they couldn't believe I was heavy enough to even consider this.

My extended relation was the worse. One, who is also overweight, told me it wasn't worth it because everyone she knew that went through it gained their weight back.

I didn't let this deter me. I last 68 lbs pre-surgery. I knew I was ready for this. Yet, the week of surgery I was second guessing everything! And I have had several surgeries, as recent as 4 months prior to my VSG.

My NUT told me if I wasn't a little scared she would be worried about me. She said her most successful patients are those that are scared.

Good luck today! This will become your new birthday because you are making the brave decision to start you new life! It will be worth it!

  8. I am thankful for my family, and especially my DH, for their support over the last year. They prop me up when I struggle and always say how proud they are of me for making a change in my life.

I'm also thankful for all the staff at my clinic and friends I've made throughout this past year. You have been my savior in so many ways.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.
