  1. It's been one year today since I had my sleeve done. My life has changed in every aspect.

    My start weight was 333.1lbs

My weight this morning was 137.8lbs

    That's a total loss of 195.3lbs!!

    I've also lost a total of 95 inches...I'm a size 6 now...used to be a size 30.

I have accomplished this by being very focused and strict with my eating and exercise.

I eat very low carb, and always get in my Protein, Vitamins and Water every day.

For all of you just starting out, just know that anything is possible, and if you put your mind to it, you can achieve anything!!attachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1484247025.506927.jpgattachicon.gif ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1484247046.704277.jpg

  2. Your weight loss is similar to mine. I'm also 48 and started with a surgery weight of. 244. Did you do a preop diet? How much did you lose there? My dietician has told me that my weight loss has been incredibly fast. I can tell you a friend had the same surgery the day after me and I'm 10lbs ahead of her so I know that is true. Don't worry. You are doing well!

    I lost 20lbs preop

  3. I'm wondering if my age has something to do with it too. I'll be 48 in July

Wow! You look 28 in your photo!

There are a host of factors that contribute to the pace of your weight loss, from your starting BMI to what you're eating (too few calories can paradoxically cause a stall), and your activity level. I also lost around 13 pounds in six weeks. I stalled out for several weeks before I started to drop again. One of the only adverse reactions I had to surgery was having a really upset stomach when I started to reintroduce solid foods at the one-month mark. This caused me to progress through the post-op eating stages more slowly, staying on a liquid and soft foods diet that was really too low in calories and freaked my body out into thinking it was starving and holding onto weight to try to survive. When I was able to start eating solid foods and get into a reliable routine again the weight began to drop. It still went slow. My starting BMI was in the low 30s, and I knew in advance I'd lose more slowly due to it. I did eventually exceed my goals, but it took about 14 months.

You might experience silver linings to losing weight slowly, as I did. I lost a minimal amount of hair, and have absolutely no loose skin.

    Thanks

  5. 47NHeaven -

I've learned through all this that no one should compare themselves to others, because we all lose at different rates depending on a lot of factors (age, gender, starting weight, metabolism rate, whether or not you lost a lot of weight pre-op, etc). But just so you know, when I was five weeks out, I had lost 16 lbs. And I started out *way* heavier than you (almost 400 lbs). So don't worry about that at all. Again, if you stick to the program, the weight *will* come off. I was behind the curve for at least the first six months ,and I ended up blowing everyone else I went through classes with out of the Water. It's commitment to the program that makes the difference - not the rate of your weight loss. I was highly committed from day one.

I really needed to hear that and I appreciate you sharing, now I feel hopeful

  6. you're what we in the bariatric community call a "lightweight" (I don't know what the actual weight requirements are to be considered a "lightweight", but I'd say under 250 lbs). Lightweights lose slower than us heavier folks because they have a lot less to lose. I know you read about people losing 30 lbs the first month, but those folks are few and far between and usually weigh over 300 lbs.

Your body's going to lose at the rate it wants to lose. The only control you have is to stick to your program. I was a "slow loser", and I have lost 227 lbs. It'll come off, whether fast or slow, if you stick to your program.

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I didn't think 242lbs would be in the category of those who lost slow. I thought at 242 I could expect to lose chunks of weight at a time like everyone else.

  7. There is no way in he!! I am NORMAL! hahaha.....But based on my BMI this morning I am now in the normal range...I can't believe it! I had surgery on 5/16/16. My starting weight was 252....I've lost 97.8 pounds and weigh 154.2 this morning!!! I only have 4.2 pounds to go before I hit my goal weight!! It's only been about 6.5 months.....I'm just amazed!!

First pic (I'm in the middle)....my daughter, me and my mom at Thanksgiving.

  8. Anyone get emotional leading up to surgery? I have moments I just want to cry. I know this will be a good thing, scared anxious want this part to be over with. Somewhat haven't second thoughts

I had 2 nice crying sessions before my surgery. I was overwhelmed with emotions even though I'd been preparing for months. Part of it was because I didn't want to leave my cat. Lol

  9. Today is the day. I'm starving. I haven't 'eaten' since Wednesday evening. I feel bad for all the pre-op liquid diets out there. I'm not supposed to drink Water except to take my meds, my surgery isn't until 3:30. You can better bet I'm taking each pill separately, hehe.

  10. Nope. I followed my surgeon's instructions to the letter. It was the deal I made with myself. Doing it "my way" and "listening to my body" got me to the point where I needed surgery to lose weight. Why allow someone to alter my anatomy only to go back to doing what got me to the point of surgery in the first place. My surgeon has a diet progression in place for a reason and I followed it. When I was released to my nutritional plan for life, I followed that too and worked closely with my program's dietitian. I've actually been more strict than my plan and it has worked for me as I'm maintaining a 130lb loss. I don't feel deprived, I don't miss certain foods. I have adopted a new eating plan for life and it works for me.

I agree that I don't believe in "cheating." You're not cheating; you're making a choice to eat certain foods. Whether early on when they could be dangerous to your heath or later on when they could impact your loss. Everything you eat is a choice.

    You inspire me

  11. My own choice but I stayed on some of the stages for longer than they said I could. My body told me when I was ready for the next stage.

I am sure some have 'cheated' but whats the point in that? Seems a bit daft to have the surgery and then not make the best of the honeymoon period. Especially when you are healing. You will never get that first 6 weeks back and its a great time to change the mindset over food which will carry you onto long term sucess.

Isn't that why we had the surgery in the first place?

    Amen!

  12. Nope -- not at all. And I didn't go outside of my self-imposed parameters during my six month pre-op diet either. And the result? I lost 99 pounds pre-op, and I've lost another 34 pounds since my surgery seven-and-a-half weeks ago -- 133 pounds total.

And I don't believe we "cheat." I believe we make conscious choices about everything we do (or don't do) in life.

Good luck as you continue your journey.

You have great determination and it encourages me to try to follow the plan to the t

  13. Can anyone recommend a Protein shake that doesn't taste like a Protein Shake lol

i've tried several different brands in different flavors and i just can't seem to get any of them down without wanting to throw up. it probably doesn't help that i hated milkshakes and ice cream and anything like that before my surgery. my nut recommends that i get 78 grams of Protein a day, but i'm barely getting 20! i don't know what else to try.

I am loving life and would really like to meet more people like myself who understand what I am going through. I have been stalled since December of 2015 so 1 year maintain but I really want to reach my goal weigh of 175.

You look amazing. I agree with changing up your routine because our bodies will get use to certain things and won't change
