Oh and be prepared to be hungry. I don't know if it happens to everyone but my hunger has not went away since my pre-op diet. I feel like I am starving all the time. I even wake up in the middle of the night starving. Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

Im 6 days post op and just had my first BM finally. I've been taking mirilax, milk of magnesia, colace. If I didn't have a BM today my Dr was going to have me do an enema. Guess that was enough to scare the shit out of me lol Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

3 weeks post-Op ... before and after
Get your house in order cuz your not going to want to do much, stock up on every flavor you can of crystal light/ sugar free Water flavor cuz water gets so boring. Im 6 days post op and I feel like in just full of water and pills all the time. Get Vitamins you like even if it cost a little more. Be prepared to sleep in a semi up right position. I still can't lay flat. It pulls on my incisions. I sleep on the couch. Buy those medicine 1 ounce cups. They have helped me keep track of my Fluid intake. Take a notebook to the hospital so you can write down questions that might come up and important thing you don't want to forget. Be prepared to sip water around the clock. This is the most annoying part to me. But it works. I get 64 oz of water and 90 grams of Protein a day by doing it. Be prepared to be exhausted for a while. Im still napping throughout the day. Start a stool softeners and or mirilax before surgery. If you never had a problem with constipation you will now and if you have had a problem watch out because it will get worse for a little while. I think it's because of the narcotics. Research everything you can. The internet has some good stuff and YouTube. Hope some of this helped. It will be worth it!!! Three days post-surgery, the journey so far
Ahhh yeah I forgot that it differs from sleeve to bypass. I'm a bypass patient. So maybe I'll have to get use to the dill relish instead of the sweet. Thank you. Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

64 oz of fluids 5 days post op...no way...
I thought my protein shakes, broths ect counted as liquid too. My NUT told me that anything that has protein in it is no longer counted as liquid. Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App Yeah that is weird. I guess it's just like the pre op diet and diet progression. Every Dr has their way about things. Day 5 post op
Thank you. I did call and spoke with the on call Dr. He told me to add a pain pill to what I'm already taking and if that doesn't help then he wants to see me. It's more of an internal muscle pain. I'm thinking maybe I've built up a tolerance to the pain meds. One reason why they said they could not get my pain under control as soon as I came out of surgery was because I was on narcotics for 9 months due to a pretty brutal broken bone in my foot. They said my body had build up a tolerance. Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

Three days post-surgery, the journey so far
My stomach never really felt "weird". The incisions were uncomfortable for a little while, but never really painful. My stomach (internally) felt normal almost immediately. The first few days (maybe a week and a half?) I had a weird sensation when I swallowed food, like I could feel it going down, but it didn't hurt, just a new sensation and then it went away. You've never heard of egg salad? It's delicious. Take some hard boiled eggs, chop them up with a fork, mix in some mayo, and that's the basic egg salad. I also mix in mustard and sweet relish. It's great by itself, or (pre-op) on a bagel or a roll or crackers. I love sweet relish in my egg salad and tuna salad. But worried about dumping because of the sugar. Do you use sweet relish? If so have you had any problems with it? Sent from my Y538 using the BariatricPal App

64 oz of fluids 5 days post op...no way...
I'm 5 days post op. I sip all day. Tiny sips. It's getting quite annoying too. I manage to get my 64 oz of Water in but I'm not sleeping well either. So when I'm waking up or having a hard time falling back to sleep I'm sipping and sometimes pacing. You will get there. I figured as long as I am doing the best I can then that has to be good enough. Now that I've started Protein shakes it's getting harder to stay at the 64 oz mark. It takes me more than an hour to get a Protein shake down. So I'm going to have to be more diligent about my water.
