NYC and HIP health insurance ??

Ok...yes i am officially approved by HIP. I changed my date to July 31. Of course i have to stress over something. I looked at HIP's website and as you all said it mentions 6 month diet as requirement. Are you guys worried that after the operation is done HIP may re-nig and deny payment becouse I didnt provide the 6 month diet? Im the queen of what ifs but im confused. Why would they say something is a requirement when its not ?

NYC and HIP health insurance ??

Thanks Lisa. My insurance coordinator told me I needed a 6 month diet plan based on HIP new rule. I was bummed bc i was never told that in the beginning. She submitted my paperwork anyway ( w/o the 6 month) and I was just told on Friday I was approved  but i want it in writting bc i dont want any surprises down the road. IM not sure i trust HIP :frown:

    NYU Medical Records Question

My surgeon is Dr Kurian. She seems really nice and patient. I really like her its just Nilsa ( the insurance coordinator) has been kinda annoying, Im scheduled for July 10th but i dont think she has submitted anything to insurance yet. She hasnt kept me posted at all

    NYU Medical Records Question

Hi Kristen. I just submited my docs to NYU and pretty much 1 and 2 are the same. The first bulleted item and a letter from your pcp is basically what they are looking for (I think). Nilsa, the woman collecting medical docs can be really difficult and a little curt so when you see her (after you meet with your surgeon) make sure you ask her your questions. She is hard to get a hold off once you leave her office ( although she gives you her card) ..i hope im not too discouraging. NYU is the best by far but Nilsa and the paper work is a a reall pain in the neck ...Good Luck

    Anyone from Queens

Hi yall im Justice I live in Jamaica Estates and i am scheduled to be banded July 8th at NYU. Im excited and freaked out. Has any Queens people been banded at NYU ? Justice
  8. Hey There I am scheduled to be banded on July 8th by Dr Kurian who is awesome by the way. I hear great things about her and her staff. Like you i am waiting to hear back from my insurance (HIP) The only thing i didnt like was meeting witht the woman who sends your docs to the insurance, i think her name was Nira or something. She was a little rude but maybe i saw her on an off day...anywho good luck
  9. Hi everybody..im new to the site and io wanted to pose this question becosue its dawned on me that my friends/family opposition to the band is stemming from their comfort with my obesity. I think my older sister who is overweight but cant get baned for other health issues enjoys me being overweight becouse she doesnt feel judged and has someone to to go to lane bryant with My younger sister, is a dancer and thinks i need to simply go to the gym and diet but i have numerous health issues, im 5'6, 270 pounds and I need help. I know banding is dangerous and the natural way is best but i know i need help My friends like me being their plus sized sassy friend but the moment i mention i want to lose 100 pounds they have an issue. They are starting to make me doubt banding ...does anyone else have a complete lack of support and still got banded :confused2:
  10. :smile2: Hi all, I just met with Dr Kurian at NYU and they are conducting a omenectumy study where they take out some belly fat or Omen (Im not quite sure) and it sounded interesting. Its supposed to help with insulin resistance. Has anyone heard of this or had the procedure done i really appreciate your thoughts Thanks

Met with Dr Kurian at NYU today...my head hurts

WSW Please confirm all your appts. She is really nice but its a long appt. dont feel so rushed that you forget to ask her all your questions. Best to write everything down ( I wish I did ) And the Admin who sends your documents to the insurance company ( I think her name is Niera sp?) is rude but you will be fine. Good Luck Thanks for evryones responces and support

    Issues.. **TMI Warning**

Hey MicheleK I am sorry to hear about your stress..role reversal can be really tough. I have pcos so i know what you are going through as far as irregular periods. My cycle is all over the place. My last period was extremly heavy it lasted for two weeks. I have heavy clotting and cramping. My gyn said i just had to go through it becouse i hadnt had a period in a long time. Its probally your body reacting to your stress but say strong sweetheart things will get better :wink2:
  13. Hi Ya'll Im in the early stages of my lap band journey. I saw a psy and met with my pcp. He gave me his blessing and i meet with the surgeon in 2 weeks. I am positive my insurance will cover it. Anywho when I met with my pcp he told me my A1C went up to 7.8 :w00t:. I am a little freaked out becouse my right fingers have been tingling lately, like they fell asleep. I dont want to jump to conclusions but has anyone suffered from diabetic neuropathy and has it improved with the lap band? Thanks for your comments guys:smile2:

    Diabetes Neuropathy anyone?

Thanks for responding Sharon..im sorry to hear there hasnt been much improvement but its great you blood suger has imporved. Im just curious, since i am basically self diagnosing since i havent spoken to my doctor about this...how did you learn you have Neuropathy? Not to sound dumb but is there a test that is done? :confused2:
  15. Hi Ya'll I plan on benig banded this summer ( I just met with a pysic.) and I know the band has helped many bandsters on LBT with Diabetes but I havent heard much about the band and High Blood Pressure. I was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure which is the main reason im going to do this. So are you guys off your meds completely (if at all) or the very least reduce your dosages? Thanks for your comments

Come in Bandster with Hypertension :)

EricLyn your numbers are really similar to mine. The only reason I am pursuing this surgery is to get off metformin and the 2 highblood pressure medicines im on right now. I am confident that with weight loss my numbers will improve ...Good luck everybody:smile2:
  17. Hi guys.i was wonderig if anyone had a hiatle hernia before surgery and if that hinderd your surgery at all? thanks for your input guys:lol:

    Nyu

I agree, the ladies that answer the phone at NYU are a little rude but like Fenton, I could put up with a little rudeness to work with the best surgeons in the city (possibly the country). I chose Dr. Kurian, i hear good things about her. Anyone use her? thanks
  21. Hi yall im not banded yet but i hear alot about bandster hell...when is that and how long does it last? thanks for your help guys
  22. justicenyce

    Nyu

Im not sure about the insurance but I ma going through NYU and i have HIP which does not require a 6 month waiting period so NYU did not require it. But they do require psy and nutrionist visit..hope this helps
  24. justicenyce

quick question...what is ' bandster hell'
