Low BMI
To be the high goal Weight my team set for me would be 50 lbs...to hit my low goal weight would be around 70. I did not meet the BMI requirements for the surgery based on weight but I am diabetic and have sleep apnea, which did qualify and get me approved for surgery. I looked into the balloon slightly before deciding on gastric sleeve. I am 3 weeks post op from the sleeve. For me, it is more than just the weight to lose. I needed something more permanent than the balloon offered. My surgical team follows up with their patients for years. I need that. I would say go for it, but realize it's not a quick fix. It's a lifestyle change and a lot is required of you both pre op and post op. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Weight gain...getting depressed :(
I would call your WLS team. Tell them what's going on. My team encourages us to call them before those 2-5 lbs end up being 20-30..they can help you get back on track. There are lots of protein options besides shakes. I'm 3 weeks out from surgery and I can't drink shakes at all right now..the smell..the thickness..hit my stomach like a leaf balloon..all that just make me sick, but the soups..the fruity concentrates..the hot chocolate..I keep a variety because I need that. ((HUGS)) Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I know you meant "hit my stomach like a lead balloon" but the image that formed in my mind of a leaf balloon made me smile. Imagine what fall would be like if leaves were like balloons. Typos R me..lead..lead balloon but it would be nice if it felt like a hehe Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

The Statistics are not in our favor? (According to my worried Dad)
I'm 46 as well. I had never had a major surgery before I had my sleeve done 3 weeks ago. Both my parents researched the surgery, worried and voiced concerns to me as well. They shared their concern and we talked about it, then told me they respected my decision to have it done. They knew I had researched it and put a lot of work into the decision before ever having the surgery. There are risks with every surgery, so be aware, but don't let that stop you if you really know in your heart this is right for you. Parents love and worry about us no matter what our age. Just have a conversation with him. Let him come with you to an appointment with your surgeon. Let the surgeon help reassure him. It may ease his worries. Good luck! This one is for the Ladies! [emoji177]
I didn't wear a bra while I had staples in. My team said they could get hooked on a bra since one was at the lower bra line. After I got the staples removed it didn't bother me Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Diet After Surgery
My surgical team stresses 60-90g of additional supplemental protein at minimum..they say it's better to have 1/2 your weight in protein is better for the first 3 months. They say it not only helps you not have hunger but that it helps you lose fat and maintain muscle. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Diet After Surgery
My Dr plan is for the 1st 3 months to supplement 60-90g of Protein via bariatric shakes, concentrates and Soups, etc. for 2 of those months our meals are no more than 1-3 ounces Proteins..no more than 30 carbs, 2-6 months we are allowed 2-4 oz of protein and 2-4 vegetables or fruit..after 6 months we can add back grains if we want to. Wasting food
Embrace the 4 legged garbage disposal! I have the 4 legged garbage disposal at home as well..but since I'm on a business trip away from home, no access to my dog to help. The leftovers went in the trash, it was still hard for me to do it..but I did. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Food Comfort
I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my 15 yo Beagle earlier this year and it was so hard. She was my baby..so I totally understand, but don't emotional eat your way out of your grief though..it's not the best way to mourn. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Wasting food
Thank you..I think from early on like many people I was told not to waste..starving kids and all. You are absolutely correct. I need something in my head to just say..it's ok..and the real waste would be for me to overeat..get sick or worse..back track on my successes so far. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Wasting food
I'm at a conference where our meals are reimbursed. I've ordered appetizers both meals but still have got two big left over boxes full of food that no one wants and I feel extremely wasteful. How do I get that out of my head? That portions are too big anymore and that I'm not going to be able to eat a full plate of anything, even an appetizer size. I refuse to eat more than my stomach will hold..but it's really bothering me to waste food and I'm not sure why. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
