  1. Start with water to wake up your system. Then a protein shake or something easy on your system such as scrambled eggs, yogurt, etc. Lap-banded and love it!
  2. Human nature is a funny thing. Focus on the work you need to do to eat healthier and exercise. When people see the results you can decide what to share. People know I am working hard to eat healthier. I don't mention my lap band because it is only one tool. Counting calories, low carb, high Protein, turning down dessert. Those things they see me doing. Lap-banded and love it!
  3. Surgery on a Wednesday and back to work on Monday. Lap-banded and love it!
  4. I've not tried this, but heard of people buying a sugar free cake mix and mixing it with 12 oz diet soda. Only these 2 ingredients. Bake as muffins or muffin tops or as a cake according to time and temp on the box. When cool top with sugar free frosting or Cool Whip. I have not tried this yet.
  5. I agree. I haven't heard of the either and they don't appear to change behavior. Plus the emptying system strikes me as gross.
  6. Some times someone who we thought was our friend only hung out with us because in some way they felt superior to us. We were the fat friend they looked smaller standing beside. Be polite, but distance yourself. The person may be looking for a new way to feel superior to you so they will create drama, tell stories and sabotage. I've been in your shoes. Keep your chin up, but don't trust the person.
  7. Are you tracking your food intake and looking at your calories? I entered menopause in the past year and I'm losing 2 pounds a week with minimal exercise currently. I have bad knees and hope to exercise once I'm down 50 pounds. I had lap band in mid October and I'm losing 10 pounds a month. Look at the quality and quantity of what you are eating. Carbs will sit on the hips easily. Focus on protein, low carb veggies and water. Good luck.
  8. Is the insurance through an employer? Did it change the plan coverage for 2017? Call the employers benefits manager and ask for information. You can appeal to BCBS if WLS is still a covered benefit. You need to determine this first. Good luck!
  9. Stick with soft foods such as fish, soup, tuna salad, etc. Avoid bread, steak, Chew really well and eat slowly. These tips will help it not be obvious to your friends.
  10. http://www.fda.gov/MedicalDevices/ProductsandMedicalProcedures/ObesityDevices/ucm350134.htm Interesting article.
  11. I had lap band surgery in October. I'm losing 10 pounds a month and happy with this amount. I was not looking for a quick dramatic change. I wanted a tool to help me lose weight. My surgeon installed my band making a small pouch (stoma or stomach) he then pulled up my stomach and stitched it to my band to prevent slippage. I have a 10 cc band and I have 5.5 cc in it. This is the perfect amount for me. My doctor uses a fluoroscope to monitor against any slippage or erosion. The band does require more awareness. If I eat too fast or don't chew well enough I do spit up. This has taught me to chew, chew, chew and eat slower. I'm happy with my band, but realize it isn't for everyone.
  12. I use My Fitness Pal. Tracking Protein, carbs and calories is helping me lose weight.
  13. Don't beat yourself up. Tell her you are eating healthier and on the day she spoke to you, you were just getting over a mild case of food poisoning. Then in a very positive tone tell her you are working to lose weight and be more active. If she asks how tell her what you are eating and doing for exercise. Don't mention the surgery unless you want it known. Also, if you mention the surgery be prepared to live it every time she sees you. Stay positive. This is about you and your life.
  14. Thank you both! Life is short, I want to be happy and reach my goals.
  15. Completely normal. Each day will get better. Walk around the house to help get rid of anesthesia. Water is key the first week. Don't get dehydrated. Protein shakes once you feel a little better tomorrow. Water, water, water...Sip, sip, sip.
  16. I count calories, eat low carb and high protein, and track everything. If you eat bread, potatoes, rice, cake, sweets, etc lap band or not you are not going to lose weight. You have to change your habits. The lap band is only one tool. Sorry not a miracle.
  17. I remind myself of this daily. Also, I remind myself what I eat in private l wear in public. My fat shows.
  18. The goal of the protein is to help you feel full longer. I think if you drink too soon before or after you are deluding the protein shake and not getting the benefit. IMHO
  19. Stay strong. You can do it! Your goal is bigger than your appetite.
  20. I eat most everything my family does in moderation. I skip the starches. We eat grilled meats, rotisserie chicken from Costco, pot roast, etc. For me the trick is to cut the fat and calories. Sliced cucumbers and chicken salad for lunch, tuna or egg salad with low fat mayo. I track my calories using My Fitness Pal.
  21. Thanks for posting. Excited to try.
  22. This video does not reflect how my lap band surgery was done in October. I have a small pouch created by my band. My stomach is sewn around my band to avoid slippage. I feel hunger and restriction. I respect my limits and the band works for me. I don't drink one hour before or one hour after eating. I take sips of Water as needed if food catches. I eat Protein and veggies and avoid carbs.
