    BOWEL MOVEMENT AFTER DUMPING SYNDROME

The color of poo will be influenced by what you eat and drink. Medication can influence too.

How Do You Meet Your Fluid Goals?

My husband gave me a S'well bottle for Christmas. I love it. It has a screw cap, is refillable, keeps liquids cold for 12 or hot for 24. I carry it everywhere.

    This sure feels weird

For our 25 wedding anniversary my husband had a beautiful diamond and platinum ring made for me. It has a hinged shank so I can get it over my knuckle and tighten it once over. If you ever want to have your original wedding ring redone so you can wear it when not working in the shop a jeweler can help with this type of shank.

Green Spot / Sweet Spot - How do you know?

I have cancelled my January fill appt. At this point I feel good with 5.5cc. I'm counting calories and eating high protein and low carb. I will monitor my weight loss and how I feel. I am also going to check with the surgeons office to see if I can stop in monthly and get weighed. I would love to have that official weight monitoring. Thanks everyone for your feedback.
  7. I had my second fill on 12/27. I have a 10 cc lap-band and I now have 5.5 cc in it. How do I know when I'm in the green spot / sweet spot? I actually feel pretty good after two adjustments, but my doctor scheduled me to come in at the end of the month (as I was leaving my second fill appointment). I eat a three ounce chicken thigh and a couple bites of veggies and I'm full. What does it feel like when you have the perfect amount of restriction, and approximately how much are you eating per meal? Thanks!

12/20 - No appetite or energy.

I recall hearing the dietitian in my support group meeting telling someone who made a similar comment that as long as they were getting in their water, protein, and able to go to the bathroom they were okay the first 6 to 8 weeks. If it lasted longer it was time to see the doctor. She said being tired is normal as the body is going through a major reset.

    Interesting NYT article on WLS

Lap band surgery was approved in the US in 2001. It has been in Europe since approx. 1993. The weightloss success rate for lap band is the same 3 years post surgery as gastric bypass and sleeve. I wonder if there is a scientific study regarding lap band issues and the cause. I know numerous people who love the band and are successful with it.

    Psych eval ?

You will also be asked about when you started gaining weight, why you think you will be successful post op, how you will change or control behaviors that led you to overeating. Good luck!

    Interesting NYT article on WLS

The NYT wrote an article in September about the new FDA approved WLS to drain food from the stomach before the calories are absorbed. It was interesting.

    Band for the new year!

I was banded on 10/12/16. The first three weeks I felt tired and out of sorts. I didn't have regrets, but was feeling the pain of the changes. Be patient and kind to yourself. I'm now losing 10 pounds a month without exercise and with snacking due to three holidays and numerous gatherings. I'm sure as I start exercising I will see an increase in my weekly weighloss, and thankfully the holidays are over. With all of us a successful 2017.

What about checking with local hospitals to see if they have any bariatric surgery care? They may be able to do your fills or guide you to a source.

What Are Your New Year’s Resolutions?

My resolution is to exercise consistently, every day, for a minimum of 15 minutes. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but for me it is a perfect starting point with the thought that it will quickly increase, but never decrease. It is easy for me to be under a project deadline and barely move away from my computer all day. Now, I have it programmed in my calendar to remind me to stand up and march in place every 90 minutes, and for me to walk on my treadmill daily for a minimum of 15 minutes. Small steps…

    Band no longer in place?!?

I've never heard of this. I hope all goes well and they figure out what is going on and it is easy to correct.

    Lap-Band slip

Do you know which of the two types of gastric lap-band surgery you had? Perigastric Technique (PGT) Pars Flaccida Technique (PFT) According to the Bariatric Surgery Source studies have confirmed that the pars flaccida technique (PFT) is safer and results in a lower rate of band slippage. When I was discussing all the different WLS options with my surgeon we discussed slippage, and he said that he has been performing gastric banding since around 2002 and now only does the PFT procedure. I suggest you talk with your surgeon about what is causing the slippage. My surgeon does my band adjustments using a fluoroscope. Because of this, he (and I can too if I turn to look) can clearly see my lapband and its placement. This gives me comfort knowing if there is an issue he will see it right away. Best wishes

    2nd Fill Tomorrow

Me too. I've ate more Snacks because of the holidays. Today is my last day of snacking. Tomorrow I'm back to Protein shakes to help get me back on track.
  24. Have you hurt your lower back? Lifted something too heavy while twisting? It reads like a pinched nerve IMHO, but I'm not in the medical field. Banded 10/12/16
