Do you tell others? Do you feel embarrassed or ashamed?
Treadmillwalker replied to JuniperBug's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I've chosen not to tell people. I use to mention when I was starting Weight Watchers or any other diet and people would ask, "should you be eating that?" or "how much weight have you lost?" I got tired of my latest diet defining how people spoke to me. If anyone asks now I tell them I'm doing Atkins / South Beach style--low carb and high Protein. I also say I'm doing everything we have all learned before such as chewing well, small portions, etc. ALL of this is true. Surgery is just another tool for me. Banded 10/12/16 -
Methadone and weight loss surgery
Treadmillwalker replied to emmapat14's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not familiar with methadone; however I would assume the doctor who prescribes it can help guide you and your surgeon. People on this site are taking a wide variety of medications and have successful WLS. Good luck and congratulations on turning your life around in a positive direction. Banded 10/12/16 -
@@gowalking great to know. I have my second fill on 12/27. I'm at 3 cc now. My band holds up to 10 cc. Does what we post here stay in Banders #7 or does it Trend, etc. depending on responses. Banded 10/12/16

@@gowalking - Thanks Liz for the welcome. At this time I don't have any questions. I'm early in my journey. I am wanting to connect with others who have the band. I notice a lot of folks appear to have negative opinions about the band. I did a lot of research, went through a bariatric center of excellence, and have a surgeon who has performed all types of WLS for many years. I'm happy with my decision and doing well. Just looking for friends. Banded 10/12/16

Often family is more unkind to their family then to acquaintances. They feel they can say and do anything and be forgiven because they are related. Define how you want to be treated. The fact that you two are related doesn't give her special privileges. Banded 10/12/16

Scar tissue causing almost impossible fills 9 yrs post-op
Treadmillwalker replied to Firebolt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow, my surgeon always does fills using a florascope. If you have scar tissue this bad from you gastric band surgery what makes you think you won't have scar tissue with other types of surgery? Are you planning to have a surgeon remove the current scar tissue? If the band worked for you and is still holding fills why not have the scar tissue removed, and keep the band? Banded 10/12/16 -

Binging before surgery
Treadmillwalker replied to VivVsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went through a bariatric center of excellence, and my surgeon and insurance required six months of classes, monthly weigh in, psych evaluation, etc. I yo yo during this period. The day of my surgery I was down 10 pounds from my first class. The nurse said the surgeon would be okay with that number, but would not accept a gain. I asked if he would have cancelled and she said, "he has before." WLS does not replace willpower, self discipline, eating healthy, etc. You won't be successful if you don't get your arms around it. Don't think, I will never have pizza again. Instead think, in the future I will be satisfied with a couple bites of pizza, ice cream, etc. You are not dying, but instead going to be reborn into a healthier you. Banded 10/12/16 -

Am I finished losing weight?
Treadmillwalker replied to macmanjimmy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm no medical experts, but I've had success rotating my calories and or exercise. One day 800 calories, the next 1,000, the next 1200, the repeat. Same with exercise. Good luck. Banded 10/12/16 -
Calcium Supplements and Eating Dairy
Treadmillwalker posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I am not scheduled to see the dietician and my surgeon until 12/27 when I receive my second band fill. I love dairy and eat FF cottage cheese, FF Fage yogurt or good quality FF cheese daily without issue. Do I need to take a Calcium supplement? Has anyone discussed this with their nutritionist and what guidance did you receive? Banded 10/12/16 -
I was banded on 10/12/16 and will have my first fill on Tuesday 10/15/16 by the surgeon using a florascope. How will I know when I am in the green spot / sweet spot as I begin to get my fills? How much weight loss can I expect per week once in the sweet spot? Thank you. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App
